I am totally new to newsgroups, so excuse me if im a little on the naive
side. I subscribed here cause I thought I would meet some informed dog
people and do some interesting reading and learn new things about one of
my interests. Is everyone here really adult??? I sincerely hope so, cause
I know one thing, I wouldnt want any children reading the stuff a few of
you are saying. Whats the problem, anyway? Do some people hunger for
control so much that they will try to get it here? Really, do they have
so little control in there own lives? Really, lets talk about dogs, kay..
No one is impressed by how well you can all catcall each other when you
dont even know one another. And lets try to not be so "freakin" snotty
with even the replies that are posted on topic! Not everyone has a degree
in Dogology....

As you can plainly see, Kathy, no.

Well then, if you really do feel that way, you shouldn't allow YOUR
"children" to read this newsgroup. And it's hard for me to understand
exactly why a "child" should be reading this newsgroup in the first
place. That's one of the very first things you should learn about the
Usenet. When you sign-up with a provider, you almost always have to
agree that YOU, the parent, will be responsible for what your "child"
(under 18) gets access to on the Internet. That's YOUR job, not mine.

I, for one, am not going to allow the Internet to become only a
playground for the little people. If you're more comfortable in Mr.
Roger's Neighborhood or Romper Room than you are on the Internet, just
don't come here or, better, learn how to supervise your children.

Yes, that's exactly what you see going on. People (fascists) trying
to CONTROL what others can say, even in a supposedly UNMODERATED
newsgroup.

"kay.." by me. Heh-heh-heh.

Au contraire. If some folks refuse to mind their own business and not
talk only about dogs, there are some others (like me) who really enjoy
a good catcall (aka flame, slam, etc.). Heh-heh-heh.

But you appear to now have one in Freakinology, eh? And that's a good
sign! Degrees in Doofusology, Whineology, Bedwettology, and last, but
not least, Buttinskology are worthless and you shouldn't waste your
time trying to get them. Please? Heh-heh-heh.

Hi Kathy,

As someone who has been reading this group for a long time, I welcome this
opportunity to tell people who are totally new to this group that there are
lots of informed dog people here who have not only done a lot of reading but
have also spent a large part of their lives being around, looking after,
and treating dogs, and who would love to give you really helpful, polite
advice on any doggy problems you may have. There are some other people who do
not know a hundredth about dogs as the knowledgeable dog-people I told you
about do. These other people do not talk about dogs, they post stuff with an
agenda on their mind. They try to pose like people who really want to talk
about dogs, but only want to see if they can get into a "catcalling" contest
with the knowledgeable dog-lovers. They sometimes will ask some innocuous dog-
related question, just to "bait" these dog-lovers. Then, slowly but surely,
they will start insulting these dog lovers. And then they will try their best
to convince new people, like yourself, that they have been in the right all the
time, they just were trying to ask a honest question, and this dog-lover
(see, HE is now calling ME a "freakin" something) jumped on their case for no
reason. They say to the new people, look, this group is full of uncivilized,
childish people who have so little control over their own lives that
they want that "feeling of being in control" by being snotty with poor
people like me, who don't know much about dogs; these people think they have a
degree in Dogology, and they just want to insult me because I don't!!

Kathy, let me tell you that this is an excellent forum to ask your
dog questions. If you ask a honest question, you will get a honest,
informative, polite answer. Go ahead, try it!! :)

I love dogs, but have very little in the way of information about
a lot of dog issues- training, health, breeding (for improving the quality of
the breed, that is, I know everything I need to know about breeding for
the purpose of making a quick buck, not that I do it!), showing etc.
I have learnt a lot by just regularly reading this group.

I can contribute very little to this group in terms of dog issues (except
maybeon certain topics on one particular breed, I could put in my 2 cents
if and when somebody does ask a question about that topic and if I felt that I
would be able to give a satisfactory answer). So I feel the only way
that a person like me, who has been reading this group for a long time,
can contribute is by assuring new subscribers who have genuine dog questions
that they will get a polite, informed answer from a knowledgeable person.
All they have to do is ask!

Bravisimo!!! You get a standing ovation for politely and honestly in the
simplest of laymans terms explaining this board . Again I applaud you for
a job well done.
