Overprotective Chesapeake Bay Retriever

Hi

I have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that is very overprotective of her
domain (i.e. bears teeth and growls when you do something she doesnšt
like). She is nine years old now and has acted this way since she was a
puppy. The vet said that this particular breed is domineering. Has anyone
else had a similar experience with this breed?
