We've had him for 5 days and he eats well, plays a LOT, purrs like
crazy, and generally seems to be fine. But whenever he goes poop he
meows and upon completion there is a clear fluid and sometimes some
blood. The consistency seems to be watery to me but my wife has
noticed it `stringing' so she thinks it's more like mucus.

We've taken a stool sample to the vets and they couldn't find
anything. He's scheduled for the vet on Thursday but since he's only
2 pounds (about 8 weeks?) I worry that his health could deteriorate
quite rapidly if something is wrong.

Does anybody have any idea what this might be or whether we should
worry?

Sounds like worms, perhaps, though the stool sample should have
indicated their presence; wouldn't show a tapeworm, though; you have to
look for segments in the stool to dx those, and they don't always segment.
Also...is this a symptom of FIP? Make sure the kitten is tested for *all*
the diseases; FIV/FeLV/FIP. As far as Thursday, if he keeps his current
energy levels up I'd not worry overmuch, but would keep a close eye on
his appetite, water intake, and activity. If something changes
drastically then get him to the vet right away.

Worms it was. My wife observed some crawl back in before she could
get them, after he had gone to the bathroom (YUCK!). The vet gave him
some deworming medication and made an appointment for another check
up.

Thanks for all the replies (posted and e-mail)!
