Dry skin?

My oldest boy, Spike (he is 7), is having a terrible
time with what looks like dandruff - it doesn't
seem to itch him, but the more I brush him, the
more white flakes I get.

He pretty much ignores it. Anyone have
any suggestions as to what I can use to help
his skin to mellow out?

My vet once prescribed me drops to add to the cat's food. They worked
almost instantly! :))
It was some A-vitamine and mixed oils I seemed to remember. Also great
for a wonderfully soft and shining coat after shedding.
I'm sure your vet knows something similar that can be Ok for your cat
too :))

I had the same problem with my 9 yr old male cat, Ru. I asked my vet
about it and she gave me some fish oil capsules to put on his food.
They didn't seem to help much but once I started feeding him Hill's
Prescription CD-S food it pretty much went away. Definitely ask your
vet about it.

This condition is usually a combo of lack of grooming (especially if
he is fat) and diet. He probably needs more Omega-3 fatty acids in
his diet, which is found in different fish sources. Your vet can
prescribe Dermacaps or you can buy a similar product OTC. A little
"hairball formula" food as a trat will help reduce the problem, as
well. Also, a bath with a moisturizing shampoo like Allergroom should
help.

Linotane and Mirra-coat are two brands, containing essential fatty
acids, that are often of benefit.
If you are in the habit of feeding your cat tinned food, as well as
dry, then mackerel is a good choice, WRT this condition, while tuna is
not especially so good.

After ruling out a medical condition, the best thing I've ever
found for dry, itchy, flaky skin is an all-natural remedy,
butter. A little pat of butter two or three times a week
will add the oils your cat needs. Be careful not to give
the cat too much, and make sure you ask your vet first.
