I am creating a web gallery of funny pictures of dogs, cats and other
animals. If someone happen to have a good picture of that kind, please
consider emailing it to me for adding to the gallery. As of now I have
pictures of several dogs, cats, bunnies and one bird, so you are welcome
to visit it at http://members.spree.com/webstop/ and have a look.
Thanks to everyone, who would respond.

That is really rotten! They could even sell them (for a calendar, for
instance) and you wouldn't get a penny.

Mark:
You raised important issue, although your comments are single sided.

On the one hand your post made me realise that language of the "rules"
says something, that I have never intended it to say. I run Webstop
site for my own fun, and for the fun of visitors, with no intention of
making any profit out of submitted material. I have already corrected
the language of the rules to say, that ownership rights belong to
Webstop for as long as material is present at the site, but for the
period of not less than 6 months (this is to avoid the situation that
somebody submits a picture and then requests it back next day, after I
have gone through the trouble of editing and posting it). After 6 months
upon request I will remove the material, and it will no longer belong to
Webstop.

On the other hand it should be understood that to avoid complications,
posted material MUST belong to Webstop. This is a requirement of Spree,
as well as of any other free hosting service. Even if there was no such
requirement, I don't want to be accused of copyright infringement. What
if someone submits a picture and then sells it to some publisher? There
is no fun for me in that. Besides, every submitted picture is edited
prior to posting. I need the right to do that as well.

If that's not enough, please consider this: quality of submitted images
was never a requirement. This is because it is the quality of the
subject, that matters. If the picture is not perfect, but you like it,
chances are other people will like it as well. Most pictures are sent to
me with resolution of 72 - 100 pixels/inch. Maximum resolution on the
web without increasing image size - 96 pixels. Average laser printer
does 300 pixels, which is three time higher, but still rather low. Such
low resolution pictures are hardly sellable for, say, calenders. I would
need negative film or original high resolution bmp image for this
purpose. I have never requested it from anybody, and never intended to.

Anyway, If you can suggest better language of the "rules" and email it
to me, I will appreciate that. If you still think that I have harmed
somebody, so be it. Several people think otherwise: I received several
emails thanking for the opportunity to publish a picture of their
beloved pet for free.

Regards

I really feel sorry for you. You know "rules and all" What about the people
and their fur friends? We share what we know, and feel about our loved
ones. We generally, do not want the love that we put into these postings,
to be exploited in any way. They are meant to enjoy, and be informative,
not become money making ventures.
