When I saw in the paper this morning that there was to be a major auction of
cat-related art at Skinner's, I thought you people should know about it. Go
here to see a fully-illustrated catalog in PDF format.

Miss Ralphie and Elsie have recently passed their third year anniversary of
coming to live with me. I posted some new pictures of them on my website
http://webpages.charter.net/grafix7
Unfortunately Ralphie is under the weather right now since she had to have 6
teeth out on Thursday. She's beginning to eat some now, and she's sleeping
in her regular places and not just sprawled out on the floor. Fortunately
she is losing enough of the hospital smell that her sister can be within 3
feet of her without having a hissy fit.
Last year it was her sister Elsie's turn, and she lost 3 teeth. The vet said
it was most likely heredity that caused them to have bad teeth, since they
are only three years old. Ralphie has eaten only dry food since I took them
off kitten food two years ago. So remember the next time you adopt rescued
kittens, get a complete medical history of both parents. :)

This is a very nice page you have of the two ladies. I loved Supercat! Purrs
for both Miss Ralphie and Elsie to have no more tooth probs. Frank sends his
best BTDT purrs, having had a lot of problems with his teeth.

That is my Grant's problem with teeth too. He had five out and has done fine
since. She will bounce back!! I love the painting "My Wife's Lovers" a
testament to the history of cat love. 1891!!! I wish I could go to the
auction just to see the paintings!

I can't help it. I have to do it again. There is actually a 19th century
painting of......Cats Playing Poker!!!!! LOL!! And here I thought the velvet
painting of "Dogs Playing Poker" was some invention of a skewed humourist of
the 20th century! Did cats play poker first? Or was there an original Dogs
Playing Poker in the annals of American Art History! I guess it's the art
teacher in me coming out (in fact, I am using the "My Wife's Lover" and it's
description for my classes as an example of how an artwork gains value over
time and a discussion exercise to see what they can come up with on "why"
this happened. Thanks Dick!)
Fascinating!

Years ago, I saw a poster of cats playing chess [appeared to be a
takeoff on the infamous DPP]. Didn't buy it then, now wish I had.

:) Art! Am I right? Hmm? :) I haven't looked at 'em but sounds like
they are great!
I went to your web site & remembered being there some time ago to view
the pictures of Miss Ralphie and Miss Elsie when they were kittens. My,
they have grown and become handsome adults. Love your rendition of
Super Cat. Great Work.
I downloaded the cat category of the Skinner auction catalog. Some
truly wonderful pieces of art there.
Thanks for telling us about the art.
V. Sue, fairly new to the ng.

Miss Ralphie thanks you for your purrs and wishes. I think she's feeling a
bit better, and has eaten a little of her dry food. She turned her nose up
at 2 kinds of canned food. She took a little tuna fish and water yesterday.
I gave her some gravy from dinner today which she eagerly lapped up, but
before long it must have started to sting her sore mouth and she stopped to
attack that side of her mouth with her tongue. If cats are so smart, how
come they don't know to rinse their mouths with water when this happens?
She comes to me often for scritches and seems to like having the sore side
of her jaw rubbed. She won't let me look in her mouth without a big fuss,
but I notice she is missing one of her upper fangs. She'll have to learn to
smile with her mouth closed.

Glad you found the web page interesting. Miss Ralphie and Elsie are used to
being photographed and I think they kind of like the fame that comes with
having their pictures on the Internet.
When Elsie had tooth extractions last year, after the soreness from the
surgery went away she was a much happier cat. I'm sure Ralphie will be the
same, but I can't tell her that now.
Dick
I did a little Google search. Don't know if this is the cats playing poker
you're thinking about, but you can have a velour "tapestry" of it from:
http://www.jackbergsales.com/misc/catsplayingpoker71x47.htm
Fascinating website here. Cats not only playing poker, but smoking cigars
and drinking, c. 1890. Also something about the artist, Louis Wain:

Stuff I would never have known about without having the Internet!

Love the photos of Miss Ralphie and Elsie. The Supercat was wonderful!!
I've got one of Precious laying like that, I might have to try that myself.
A picture like that would look great sitting on my desk at work
Hope Miss Ralphie is feeling much better by now
