that I couldn't get him up after he fell on the floor. Mandy helped me
get him up and into his wheel chair. I couldn't get him down to the
van, so I ended up calling 911 (emergency USA) and an ambulance was sent
for him. Fortunately, the seizure was a small one and he was given an
Dilantin IV and sent home again. This time the visit to the ER only
took 7 hours. He slept (as did I) for most of the day yesterday and is
still in bed sleeping, complete with three cats in attendance. Tanada
was in with him but is currently trying to convince us that it is noon
and time for her daily munchies.
What is strange is that I woke up at 2:30 AM Thursday and couldn't go
back to sleep. There were four cats on the bed at the time. Just
before Rob had the seizure, all of the cats got off the bed and watched.
After he had the seizure, they all got back on the bed and surrounded
him. Speedy, the d-thing, came down the hall and hovered by Rob's wheel
chair to the point we had to put him outside while we were getting Rob
taken care of. The owners really love him, which is why I was surprised
when they left him while he had his seizure. Strange behavior.
Anyway, we have another round of Dr's appointments starting Monday.

I don't reply much to your posts, Pam, because there's only so much
anyone can say. I can only tell you again how deeply I admire your
courage in facing and coping with such a difficult and ongoing
situation. Certain my prayers (and M�lisande's and Cendrillon's purrs)
are with you.

I'm reminded of the fact that Nocturne came and screamed at me when DP
had pneumonia until I followed her to the couch where he was having
trouble breathing adn took him to the hospital--but she will NOT sleep
on his head when he has bronchitis because the cough annoys and
disturbs her.

The cats' behavior isn't that strange. They love Rob. That makes them
highly
sensitive to changes in him, I think so sensitive they were able to
pick up
on changes in brain waves. Dogs do it all the time, so why not cats?
There are specially trained seizure-alert service dogs, but many
epilepsy
patients' untrained pet dogs turn into "service dogs." IIRC the theory
is
that dogs pick up a scent from the changes in brain waves pre-seizure.
I've seen this firsthand -- this particular family member's dog was a
pet
rat terrier.

Read a few stories on epilepsy.com people have written concerning
their
seizure alert dogs and you'll change your mind about that. It's
amazing.
They are able to warn their owners of an impending seizure in time
for them to get themselves to a safe place.

There are many cases of dogs behaving strangely when their owner is
about to have a seizure, I believe some dogs are trained to react and
thus give their owner advance warning so they can get to a safe place
before the seizure starts

Pam, I'm so sorry to hear that Rob is not doing well - I know you're *both*
fighting the good fight and wish I had some extra energy to send your way,
but I don't, so I'm hoping that prayers, good thoughts, well wishes, cyber
hugs and, of course, purrs from the masters will do instead.
I've read in several articles and seen programs on TV that show that animals
can detect things like seizures *before* they happen. I'm sure there is
some scientific explanation for it, but personally I'd rather believe in
magic (and, of course, if *any* animals had magic powers it would surely be
cats).
