I am doing some major painting with a water based latex paint. I have moved
the bird cage to the bedroom and am running a HEPA filter in that room. This
is a large living room/loft area with 20 ft ceilings and skylights! More than
a week-end job. I was assured on another list that I should have no problems.
I did not have anywhere I could send my CAG for a week or more. We started
last week-end and hope to finish this week-end. I have had my CAG in the
kitchen a few night and have not seen any ill effects. I read on one of the
bird safety sites that water based latex was safe.
Good luck and happy painting

You only mentioned the finished texture of the paint. More important is the
type of paint. If you use a non-toxic latex paint, like Glidden 2000, you
can kep the bird in the next room. Caution: not all latex paints are
non-toxic. Check by reading the labels and looking for staments about
meeting indoor air standards.
If you use ordinary latex paint, let the room air out for a few days with
windows open after painting it, before bringing your bird home.
If you use a solvent or oil based based paints, it can take a week or more
before the solvents dissapate.
