Anyone know who did the large character designs/artwork? I'm guessing Jim Lee,
but I'm not sure. I know it's probably considered Marvel's current "house
style".

Pretty impressive.

The character's were done by Universal's art department and supervised by
Marvel. If Marvel saw something that needed to be changed...we changed it.
Marvel didn't actually draw or paint any of those character flats.

this is wrong here. The artwork for the charater flats on the street facades
and in the shops etc. were done by Marvel artist Adam Kubert.

If Marvel was involved in the art, surely somebody up there recognized
that the identity of the Hobgoblin is wrong on his wanted poster in
the SCOOP loading area. Edward Leeds? No...

NO...you are wrong. At a meeting with the Art Director for the entire Marvel
Island he stated directly that Universal did the actual artwork and Marvel only
supervised. I have the info from the official source.

I really hate to disagree....but the artwork that I saw in the park
was taken from the comics. I've been collecting comics for the
majority of my 34 years of living. I recognized the artwork in the
Marvel Island as coming from the comic books. Alan Davis, Adam
Kubert, Jim Lee, and others did the original drawings. The Alan Davis
FF is what stood out in my mind because its been so recent.

Now, if Universal took the art from the various comics, I could go
along with that. I disagree with the fact that Universal did the
original artwork. Unless they are perfectly able to mimic the style
of some of the aforementioned artists.

That was my thoughts on the matter too. Some of the artwork is VERY
distinctive.

Also, none of the "flats" are actually painted. They are an exterior
wallpaper-like material printed in 3' wide sheets (probably easier to replace
incase of damage).

Parts of the crytals in the Super Hero square looked like they were done by Sal
Buscema and the Silver Surfer looked like his brother John's work.

I'm sure the Universal art department did a lot of work on the streets and
other areas however, and should be commended.

I was unclear...that's what I mean...the actual images and character art WAS
taken from the comic books...but the large COPIES were done by the Universl art
department. They basically recreated pictures from the original comics.

I'm not sure who you are considering the Art Director for the whole Island,
But, I would recommend that you consider XBloom to be a VERY good source on
this matter. He may be to modest to reveal himself, but, I am positive that
you will not come upon a more informed source. You may also want to get
some clarification on what "Universal" means, many professionals are brought
onto Universals payroll for projects that may also be considered as involved
with other companies and projects.

Regardless, I was AT the meeting with the Art Director for the Island. I work
on the inside of and know my information...trust me. What I stated in a post
earlier to clarify my statement was that the artwork you see on the street is
copied from the original artists. Then the Universal team, outside help or not
they were part of the Universal team for this project, recreated the images.

All I was saying is that it is possible that XBloom is not wrong also and
that he is quite actively on the inside. I'm sure we will have a chance to
meet in the trailers one day and I can introduce myself. Peace.
