I cannot believe what I am seeing/hearing. Some MF SOB is on TV
talking about some GD conference when he should be informing the
American public about the situation and offering condolences to the
families of those murdered by the perp(s).

Un fucking believeable His actions are beyond comprehension. He
should eat shit and die.

What an asshole!

Now, now Chuck. Remember, he is the president of ALL the people, you
included.

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears either when he so clearly demonstrated
his priorities.

But then, I said to myself, George Bush made him do it.

With muslims in our Military, what if a patrol is sent out and your son
is in the patrol. And right beside him is a muslim, who might shoot him
in the back. "I got your back" is a dangerous situtation today...

I'd rather have a committed American soldier, regardless of race, color,
religion, sexual orientation, education level, sex, etc. next to me than a
nutcase, coward, or sociopath - regardless of his/her race, color, religion,
sexual orientation, education level, sex, etc.

And believe me, there are proportionally more nutcases, cowards, and
sociopaths amongst Harley riders than amongst Muslims.

During the Bush 2 administration, on numerous occasions, the dems
called him every vile name in the vocabulary of Hunter because he
didn't respond immediately to some event. Katrina and other disasters
were ALL BUSH'S FAULT.

But yesterday, 0 finally made an appearance to comment on the
Terrorist attack at Ft. Hood. He first had to offer praises to the
brave native Americans who had attended the conference. And when he
did remember to comment, it took him 1:58 to get around to mentioning
the tragedy. He hasn't even bothered to go to Ft. Hood to give a show
of support. His only positive act is to ORDER THE FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF
MAST.

This 'boy' is an embarrassment to the entire country: totally
unqualified for the job.. How can you libs sit back and not comment?
Do you approve of his total dissing of our armed forces?

There is something around 100 muslim soldiers assigned to Fort Hood. At
any given time between 1/3 and 1/2 of them are deployed to Iraq or
Afghanistan. From what I hear from soldiers I sometime play golf with
they are trusted battle buddies within their squads and platoons.

pretty sad, ft hood houses 75,000 army troops, about 25,000 are
in iraq jerking off, so even with the 50,000 troops on site it took
a civilian woman to come in and save the 50,000 troops from the

Now who's talking out of their paper asshole? Fort Hood has never seen
75,000 military population, the actual assigned population floats
somewhere around 54,000. And there aren't 25,000 troops from Hood in
Iraq, more like 16,000 from the 1st Cav and its support units. The
actual base population yesterday was probably close to 31,000.
And despite your Rambo fantasies they don't all run around with loaded
weapons, or any weapons for that matter. Their first stop when the get
off an airplane returning from Iraq is the unit armory where they check
in their weapons, not to see them again until it's range time. Only
then do they get to claim their duffle and unite with their families.

So far as the civilian woman, she was a cop and according to reports a
tough cop. She and her partner were the first officers respondng to the
call, arriving about 3 minutes after the first shots were fired. The
shooter was put down by a duly sworn police officer no matter the
internal or external plumbing. She's also the mother of a 3 year old
daughter and married to an Army NCO.

No matter how you want to bitch, the command structure, president down,
did almost everything right. They isolated the scene, shot the gunman,
treated the wounded and got them to professional help in a helluva
hurry, the Commander in Chief talked with the senior officer on the
ground, Genaral Cone, promised him all the help he needed from anywhere
then stayed the hell out of the way. The absolute last thing Fort Hood
needed yesterday was to get the word that Air Force 1 would be on the
ground at Robert Gray Army Airfield in two hours.

While date and arrangements aren't finalized yet a fort wide memorial
service for the dead will most likely be held next week. I wouldn't be
at all surprised to see Air Force 1 fall out of the sky here that day.

I agree with almost all of what you said.
But..... there were signs that the "command structure" ignored. (not that I
find that unusual)
The shooter had been written up for engaging in Islamic proselytization when
counseling the troops.
He had been known to criticize the war in Iraq.
Why wasn't he subjected to a psychological examination?
What sort of "judgment" was used when they decided to send him to Iraq?
I think the "command structure" f..ked up. (but, as a veteran of Korea, I
don't find that unusual)
Fort Bliss Commander, Major General Bromberg, said on TV this evening that
members are encouraged to report any suspicious or unusual conduct.
Why? To be ignored?

Now this is a profound statement. The hells angels are a minority,
not a majority. You ought to hang out at a Harley Dealers for about an
hour, you might learn something. You haven't the slightest idea what the
breakdown is of Harley owners, age? sex? income? occupation?
You have to spend at least $20,000.00 for a new Harley, and if you order

I think O'Reilly nailed it just a few minutes ago. No commander and not
even the FBI wanted to go after a Muslim Arab.

Political Correctness you know. He was in a protected class and that is
why those people are dead and wounded today.

Because the people whose job it is to take the responsibility and make a
decision have #12 BBs for balls. Their career takes precedence over

Max, when I posted that the command structure did exactly the right
thngs I was referring only to the shootings and their aftermath. I
agree with you that mistakes were made prior to that.

He had hired a lawyer to try to get out of the Army sometime around 2002
or 2003. The problem was that he had gotten his medical education
courtesy of DOD and that carries with it a significant service
obligation. Graduating, getting licensed in one or more states then
trying to claim conscientious objector or other status in an attempt to
duck the service responsibility is a fairly common dodge which rarely
works.

He was rebuked for prosthlesizing the muslim religion but in actuallity
that isn't all that unusual in the military. Had he done the same thing
for <pick your choice> mainstream religion most likely little note would
have been taken of it. I know I was offered a smorgasbord of religions
while I was on active duty.

Serious attention should have been paid when he started posting some
really off the wall stuff on blogs. But, where do you draw the First
Amendment line? Suppose it was just another clever shrink attempt to
dodge his service obligation.

I don't have a clue as to what his motivation was. Anger at being
shipped to Afghanistan at the end of the month? Anger that his car was
keyed? Anger at being called "a camel driver" although I have a real
problem envisioning that ever happening. No enlisted would dare ever
call an officer that (to his face) and I just can't see his fellow
doctors doing it. Civilians, maybe. Military, not likely. Absolute
faith in the insanity of martyrdom? He wasn't married so maybe he was
really looking forward to deflowering a raft of virgins. That's as good
a reason as any.

I don't know Max, hindsight is always 20-20. With a base population as
large as it is, I'll bet there are other candidates that would fall in the
same suspicous behaviour category. The biggest problem is working with the
Muslim religion and treating them equally with the rest of the religions.
Walk on eggshells.
Just like other lone assassins he had deep-seated hatreds that could never
be predicted in advance.

I have to admit to biased opinions concerning the officer corps of the US
Army.
But I believe a competent psychiatrist could have determined what Hasan's
mindset was prior to the rampage.
He was giving signals and there were those who noticed.
The error was in not subjecting Hasan to an evaluation.
Someone dropped the ball.
In defense of the military though I would say that they don't have the
resources they need.
A follow up on a lot of these types of incidents reveals that signs were
very often evident but no one pursued them.
My guess about Hasan is that he was a devout Muslim who became a fanatic.

I think Max's idea about what happened is where the blame lies!
Hasan worked the Army for his medical schooling, and was determined
to crawfish out of his deal! The Army decided they were going to make
him do what it, or else!
I'll bet that Hasan really pissed off some of his bosses? Shrinks are
wonderful at that! 8>)
Who cut the orders for Hasan to go to war against his brother Muslims?
Hasan was probably already freaked, from hearing the horror stories
he''d heard, and decided to die a martyr? After all, he was a
religious nut, and nutcases are who go 5150 with guns in the news so
often.....
The problem with the Army's hard headed decision, was that bottom
feeders on the chain of command paid the price for that decision made
by the "big heat"! (as usual)
My guess is this won't be mentioned much, unless one of the
"insiders" starts having second thoughts about the result of those
actions?
I also agree with Max, an outside shrink would have seen trouble
coming, and kept Hasan doing whatever he was doing, pending further
evaluation blah blah blah.....
I've only talked with a few recent vets, but suspect the military is
riddled with modern day personnel problems unimagined from my days as a
GI?
During WWII, Japanese soldiers were sent to fight Nazis, and Germans
fought Japanese! Nobody tried to put them against their own culture!
If Hasan had wanted to go fight Muslims it would have been different.
Hasan didn't, and haired a lawyer to get him out of the Army. Why
would anyone responsible, send a disgruntled field grade officer into
the war he was disgruntled about?
Raymond

What in the world makes you think that the military would send a man -
in whom they'd invested 4 years for his MD and another 6 years
pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last
year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry - "to go to war

Of course Hasan wasn't going to be a grunt over there, but he was
still in the war, just like mechanics, pecker checkers, and lots of
other positions in a war zone! You're now sounding like one of LZ's
bragging rants?
Do you think the Army made the right choice to make Hasan go, nuts or
not, just because they told him to, and "Orders are orders!"?
He didn't use his training "to shrink" those 13 people he killed, or
the 20 others he wounded did he?
One of the most screwed up guys I ever met in Vietnam was a clerk for
several shrinks at a clinic.
Lots of GIs came to the clinic to get out of scary places, or duties.
The shrinks usually wouldn't let them change, unless they were freaking
lots others out, and made Spec 4 jones the 1st "gatekeeper" of "Mental
Health!
He could even give the "malingerers" a packet of six tranquilizers,
so they'd forget about seeing the shrinks!
He was the 1st one to hear them cry, as they showed him pictures of
the kids, wives, and mothers! Some of them called him "Doc", and
asked him for "nervous pills", so they deal with their "anxiety"!
HawHawHaw!
By the time I went home, he was often so drunk, and stoned by
bedtime, that he slept in his clothes a lot of nights! I sometimes
wonder what be came of him?
I'd say, obviously, the wrong choice was made on how to handle Maj.
Hasan's "shirking", YMMV?

Wrong. I had cousins and uncles who were brought up speaking German at
home and who still had
relatives in Germany. They fought in Africa, Italy, France and Germany
against Germans. In fact they were shipped there
because of their ability to speak German. German speakers were an asset
in every military unit fighting Germans because they could interrogate
prisoners.

I had an aunt who was killed in the fire bombing of Dresden. Of course
we were taught that we were Americans first and everything else was
secondary.
In our little town during WWII, someone who acted like Jane Fonda would
have been killed with pitchforks on main street.

Me too....but keep one thing foremost in your mind. It was the liberals
who invented political correctness and push it at every opportunity.

Through a liberal's eyes, Major Hasan is a "victim" because the Army
expected him to honor the contract he agreed to voluntarily.

He probably would never even have seen combat, he's an REMF.....remember?

The simple fact that they kill their own does not make them less of
"nutcases, cowards, and sociopaths".

People self select to ride Harleys - their ranks are filled with social
misfits, criminals and midlife crises. If they wanted a good quality
motorcycle that rides comfortably, handles well, is sporty or suitable for
touring, they would pick a Honda, a Kawasaki, a Suzuki, a Yamaha, or a BMW.
The only reason to pick a Harley is to scream to the world, "LOOK AT ME!!!"
And that is a sure sign of mental health issues. So, while the average
Muslim (worldwide) is a fairly normal person, the average Harley rider has
chosen a Harley to show off his mental illness.

At a minimum, if he wanted out of his contract, he should have been stripped
of his medical license, and presented with a bill for his education, then
given a dishonorable discharge for failure to fulfill his contract.

The Army sure spends a lot of time and effort getting troops ready to
deploy. I don't recall any of that when I was going to Combat Crew
Training School
at Langley AFB, in 1952. Your AFSC (MOS) pretty much decided what you
would be doing when you got to a combat zone. Of course our mood was
different since we were all volunteers but anyone who wanted to duck out
could just fail his physical or the water survival test.

Those who got cold feet after a few missions were allowed to quit and
take a job in the bomb dump.

They were shot at regularly and were only300 yards from shore

Sgt Nunley had her surgery yesterday and came through it just fine. She
was hit in both thighs and a wrist but no permanent damage is expected
from any of the wounds. What may or may not have come out in the
national media; she is qualifed as expert on most police weapons; she is
a police firearms instructor and she is a member of the fort's SWAT
team.

The local newspaper had an article this morning about the actions and
reactions of various people around the scene. At the graduation
ceremony being held in Howze theater, next door to the processing
center, there were six combat medics receiving degrees. At the sound of
shots fired they all sprinted out the door still in caps and gowns
heading for the acton. They were credited with stablizing a number of
wounded and saving the life of several with immediate first aid. They
were the first medical people on the scene.

Absolute nonsense.

I've ridden each of the "touring" riceburners and krautmobiles and never
wish to subject myself to another one.

Crotchrockets (including Beemers) have seat positions that murder my
back.

Riceburners are the Yugos of the motorcycle world: you can't get parts
for one that's over 3 years old.

Just because you have some unfounded snobbish idea that any of those is
somehow "superior" to a Hog is meaningless - it just describes your level

I just read Chuckle's response to my response. My, he do get a bit
frothy around the muzzle when the subject of President Obama comes up.

I think the frothiness must detract from his reasoning abilities.
Trying to tie reactions to 9-11 and reactions to Thursday's shootings is
akin to comparing 500 pound bombs to nuclear bombs. The 9-11 attacks
were widespread and aimed at the financial and governmental centers of
the nation. President Bush may well have been a target. The Secret
Service wisely dedided to get him to a secure area ASAP while things got
sorted out. Thursday's shootings were very quickly determined to be
localized, no threat to the president. The Secret Service might have
heightened their protection level a notch but that would be about it.

If all Chuckles has to bitch about is 1:58 where the President didn't
speak about the shootings he doesn't have much of a case. But, that
won't keep him from getting frothy around the muzzle again.

"Target fixation" was rampant and I don't think a single aircraft would

This morning's local paper had background and military specialty
information on the dead. It's enough to make one wonder if the
shootings were completly random. Included in the dead were a
psychiatrist, a psychologist, a psychiatric nurse and two physicians
assistants. So about 1/3 of the dead were from the same hospital where

Chuckles, you show your stupidity more with every post. The MoH is only
for active duty military personnel. She is a civilian police officer.
She may well and deservedly be nominated for a decoration but it won't
be the MoH. But, I suppose that you will fabricate some way to blame
President Obama for that slight.

She's not in the military.

Criteria: The Medal of Honor is awarded by the President, in the name of
Congress, to a person who, while a member of the Army, distinguishes
himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the
risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged
in action against an enemy of the United States;

I'm sure there are other awards she will qualify for.

We have liberals posting here who claim to have served but don't know
how to read a DD 214.

You are probably one of those who couldn't decipher Bush's NGB 22 either.

Is that because of stupidity or ignorance?

Well, Linus, I've never seen a NGB 22 but if it's anything like a DD 214
I suspect that I could decipher most of it. I do have a few 214's with

I didn't see you explaining the entries on Bush's NGB 22 to your fellow
liberals who all claimed they could spot the
fact that he didn't complete his service.

The link was posted a number of times but the lies continued.

I have 5. I also spent 5 1/2 years as an AF adviser to the National
Guard and maintained all the personnel records for the units I was
adviser to.
So I knew what I was talking about and not a single liberal would admit
they didn't know what they were ranting about.

If you can decipher the NGB 22, your expertise was not used to educate
your fellow liberals.

Obama Can't Tell Difference Between Congressional Medal of Honor and
Congressional Gold Medal
The person President Obama gave a "shout-out" to in his banter before
his "address" to the nation regarding the Ft. Hood attack yesterday
was Joe Medicine Crow.

Obama wanted to thank that "Congressional Medal of Honor winner" for
showing up at the very important, very vital conference Obama was
attending

Only one problem -Joe Medicine Crow didn't receive the Congressional
Medal of Honor. He won the Presidential Medal of Freedom (given to him
by Obama, no less) and the Congressional Gold Medal.

In other words, Obama doesn't know the difference between a
Congressional Gold Medal and the Congressional Medal of Honor (the
highest award a member of the military can receive).

Your President, Obamacrats. So subtle. So smooth. So suave. So
sensitive. So intelligent. The best ever.

And the magnificant 0 is the one that gave him the medal. What a
maroon!

Well?

Didn't overload my WebTV unit, came through ound and clear. So what? I
doubt if there is president in the history of this nation who hasn't
misspoken when talking extermoraneously. I don't see it as anything to
get the blood pressure up over.

BTW, your last reponse to me regarding DD 214's was totally irrelevant.
You posted that you doubted that I could decipher a NGB 22 form. I
posted that I figured that I could if it was anything like a 214. Then
you came up with this off the wall crap that I was supposed to have used
my knowledge to educate my "liberal friends".

I have a copy of every order ever issued me and search as I may I can't
find any order directing me to be The Educator in Chief of Civilians Who
Don't Understand the Intricacies of Government Forms. One might have
been mailed to me at one time or another but it got lost in transit

And you know nothing about my politics. Nothing! I am actually a
slightly right of center moderate - I have as much distaste for the far
left as I do for the far right, you're all a bunch of dogmatic idiots.
I have voted for Republicans, I have voted for Independents and I have
voted for Democrats. I don't think that I have voted a straight ticket
once in my 77 years and am most unlikely to do so in my remaining ones.

I don't believe he "misspoke". He allowed his ignorance to show. He
had awarded the medal in question himself and most likely didn't know

Max, Linus sees the world through some severely distorted lenses -
you're either with him or against him. There ain't no middle ground.

He's wound way too tight to understand that I am having fun with him.
If he couldn't see the humor in my last post he is taking things much
too seriously. I put together a nonsensical paragraph about not being
assigned the job of Educator in Chief . . . . . all in good humor, and
he comes back with some some retort irrelevant to anything. But, then,
he's very good at steering the conversation where he wants it to go no
matter what.

I'll tweak him every few months just for laughs but it's really hard to
take him seriously.

Max, I did just over 21 years and had great jobs. I got to play with
missiles! Big missiles, little missiles, all sorts of fun stuff. Now I
will admit that straddling a TM-61C in a cold Korean winter rain
tweaking the guidance system isn't the most fun thing in the world but
it was still satisfying to bring it in on the strongest possible signal.
That was so far back that the guidance systems used only vacum tubes.
The 12AT7 tube was the heart of the system and I usually had several in
my pocket.

When I came back to the 'States and was assigned to the Minuteman
development project at Cape Canaveral I had to take about half a dozen
courses on solid state electronics to even begin to understand the
guidance system. I'm not sure I ever truly understood it :-) But,
whatever, I got to crew 62 launches. Now that was _real_ fun. They
actually paid me to do it.
