OT-Our Goshawk is back....

keep coming back.
They never learn. The big hawk lurks in my mesquite tree and finds the
hunting pretty easy.
I just wish he wasn't so damned messy. Before he dines on breast of
pigeon, he plucks the feathers. Esposa just raked the back yard
yesterday and now it's a mess again. He's still out there now, eating
breakfast.
Handsome bird though. I guess getting rid of the shitbirds is worth the
occasional mess.

Deer, Elk, and a Possum now and then....Why not try a great Southern
dish of Doves and Dumplins ??
Take yer pellet gun and kill that blasted hawk and shoot the pigeons..

Use a pigeon trap, catch the pigeons, pluck them, then let the hawk get 'em.

There is a reason squabs are preferred over mature pigeons. Adult
pigeons are tougher than shoe leather. I used to murder them as a kid
and bring them home
to help feed the family. Pigeons fly a lot and the more they fly the
more muscles they have in their breast meat. The same is true of ducks.

I'd love to but this is a village with the houses close together. I
don't want to be putting dents in my neighbor's house.

When I bought my first rifle at age 12, I earned money for shells by
hunting pigeons along the RR tracks. An old widow living next door
would give me two bits for one and a box of shorts was 29 cents. One
day she asked me who owned the pigeons and I admitted that the only
person I knew of who had a shed full of pigeons was the parish priest.
She cackled and said that would make them taste all the better. She was
a Lutheran. :)

The hawk dined at his leisure. He didn't leave until about an hour ago.
He picked the bones pretty clean this time.
I'd take a photo from about 5 feet but the sun-screen on the walkout
won't let me.

That's true. Try salting the pigeons and maybe the hawk will be tricked
into eating the feathers.
