I think visiting all these medical facilities has finally resulted in my
picking up the H1N1 flu bug.

I felt really crappy yesterday and with just having my heart rhythm
restored on Wednesday, I was concerned that a high fever and poor lung
function
would affect it and maybe cause it to revert to atrial fibrillation again.

Yesterday even talking on the telephone caused me to be short of breath.

Naturally it had to happen on a weekend but I managed to reach my local
doc and my regular doc's associate in MN. Both said the shortness of
breath indicated a problem with my heart function and I should head
immediately for the ER or call 911.

I've seen my share of ERs and they aren't among my favorite experiences.
I told the local doc that "OK, if I'm still alive in the morning I
might go in".

Well, here is what bugs me. Neither doctor was aware that one of the
symptoms of H1N1 is shortness of breath, also that one should avoid
running to the doctor or the ER since H1N1 is highly communicable.

About midnight my fever left and I felt a hell of a lot better. I
understand there is often a relapse though so I'm not cheering yet.

Anyone else had H1N1 and survived? (Those who didn't survive; don't
bother replying.)

I was in my local doc's office the day before my cardioversion and he
asked if I wanted the flu shot. I said I never get the regular flu shot
but I would take
the H1N1. He said they couldn't get it. I told him "it's on the truck"
and he said "and the truck driver got lost".

Locally the county gave H1N1 shots to children one day but my daughter
in MN tells me half her 1st grade class is out and they have had no
vaccine in their area yet. If Katrina was a Bush Boondoggle, what
should we call the H1N1 vaccine shortage? An Obamadoggle?

I think it is a Clinton boondoggle, since it is a result of Clinton policies
that resulted in driving most domestic vaccine manufacturers out of business
and so much of today's vaccines being made overseas.

I haven't researched it yet but I thought a vaccine was a preventive
measure and not an antidote. You might just have the standard flue like
I do now. However I took the regular vaccine shot, could have been just
a tad late though.
I try to keep things within a bit of control by using Coricidin/HBP.
I have an appointment with the VA clinic on Tuesday, I'll see what they say.
My experience with the ER at the hospital my daughter works at is piss
poor. If I have to go to an ER it will be another hospital, (Riverview).
But I think the best thing to do is stay the hell away from all ERs
about now.

It is. The vaccine would have been useful before the flu spread.....now
it's rather late.

You might just have the standard flue like

Never had the symptoms I had yesterday where I was panting even after
the slightest exertion.

I took a Tylenol for the headache.

I'm supposed to get another EKG tomorrow. I hope I'm up to walking that
far.

I've never had a good experience in any ER, civilian or military. In
fact, I would have died had I listened to the doctors at a couple of them.

I am thinking that your shortness of breath has much to do with your
heart problems. Relax and take it easy until your heart condition has
been resolved.
Good luck.

That's what both doctors I spoke with also thought. However it is also
listed as a symptom of H1N1. One would expect the doctors to know that.

At midnight the shortness of breath was gone. Weird, huh?

From the Hq of the World Health Organization.

Seasonal flu is largely an upper respiratory illness, but in severe
cases H1N1 moves deeper into the lungs and causes viral pneumonia. It is
the complications from the pneumonia that has caused the vast majority
of Swine Flu deaths.

If any person, but particularly small children and others in high risk
groups, exhibit any of the following serious warning signs, seek
immediate emergency medical care:

* Trouble breathing, including rapid breathing.
* Gray or bluish skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Sleeping constantly and not interacting when awake
* Being especially irritable
* Not urinating or no tears when crying
* The symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Take care there buddy.

It could be worse, LZ. Under ObamaCare they would
tell you to take 2 aspirin and call back in 6 months.

Don't I know it. Which is what pushed me to finally have back surgery
last summer after putting it off for years.

I know I've run up a fat bill for the taxpayer but I spent 21 years in
the military and one of the major incentives was the promise of FREE
health care
for life.

So I'm just collecting what is owed. My conscience is not bothering me.

Another example of duplicity. It's illegal for citizens to purchase
pharmaceuticals from foreign countries via the internet, but of course US
companies can manufacture them overseas and import them back to the US.
Does the present administration have any plans to change that? I doubt it.
They'll just make it more palatable by subsidizing it and create the
illusion
that GOD(Government of Democrates) is good.

There have been no (zero) cases of seasonal flu anywhere near my
location...Are you certain you have "standard" influenza? In every
hospitalized case it has been H1N1.

I had a miraculous recovery (unless I suffer a relapse). High fever,
panting from any minor exertion, headache, nausea, aching bones.
Went to bed earlier than usual and woke up at midnight feeling a whole
lot better.

Made it to my appointment for a second EKG this morning and now have a
whole week without a medical appointment. Golly!

I don't think you have to worry much about contracting "Swine Flu"?
It's one of the few rewards of being a geezer. A similar bug back in
1955 made those who had it immune to H1N1, FAIK?
BTW, didn't you used to brag about not getting flu shots?
Will you be telling everyone on RORT all about your incontinence
problems, when that phase of age related medical conditions begin to
unfold? I know James Wilson will want to know all about it? HawHawHaw!
Isn't it fun to talk about your self? You sure do great job of it!

Brag? I mentioned that I don't get flu shots but when the doctor
asked, I told him I would take the H1N1 shot. I have children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting this month. I wouldn't
want to pass it to them.

This type of consideration is probably beyond your experience since you
apparently don't have a family but were found at the pound.

If I feel like it. I haven't had the problem yet so maybe you would
care to share?
Are you wearing diapers? Do they leak? How often do you change them?
Does your "pard"
get involved at changing time? Does she wash you off and dust with baby
powder?

Hmmmnn! Maybe it's something to look forward to?

Try to answer my questions while remaining coherent.

So far AFAIK, H1N1 is less debilitating than normal flu. In addition
the fatality rate is lower also.

Could it be your symptoms are psycho schematic?? [yes, I know]

I can just imagine your reports to your family all about your health
woes at the Thanksgiving dinner table, and how they might react?
I can just hear that cute little red haired great grand child saying,
"Mama, I can't eat while Paw-Paw describes his bowel movements in such
graphic detail. It makes me sick to my tummy!" HawHawHaw!
The kid's mother would go, "Shuuuuush! Be quiet, or Paw Paw will
