enthusiasm that was once there. I need to get away
from this horseshit that passes for a fly fishing group. I've been a
member of roff for over 10 yrs and until relatively recently
enjoyed it overall. Hosting fly swaps was fun and something I enjoyed
doing. Over the years as we've seen new people
come on board it seems the political rhetoric has done nothing but
increase in intensity. It has done nothing but drive
people away that had previously participated in discussions of one
sort or another. I also stated this before, our friends
who are not US citizens also left, ones who took part in my fly
swaps..my God, what a bore it must be for them to wade
through this political swamp to get a nugget or two of something on topic.
It's amazing to me that one or two are still around come fly swap
time. The continual ranting of the
left will not abate I'm afraid, just get worse as time goes on. I will
continue to enjoy fishing as much as ever but
won't feel like sharing it as in the past. In years past, my kickstart
for the day was a hot cuppa and ROFF, but the ROFF I
knew is gone, mores the pity. Now it just pisses me off that the these
idiots can't take their political BS to a proper forum.
I take this stuff to heart more than I should, I know, but that's just
me. Some, including you, are not bothered by it to the
degree that I am. More power to you and the others.

the point where it's no longer roff, it's become
ropc, I and others did not sign up for this, and worst of all, it has
driven off some people that had regularly posted on topic stuff and have
left in disgust at those who use this as their political forum.

Not that it makes any difference in the aroma you detect or the effect it
has on the forum, but what's going on here isn't politics......it's all
about personalities which, I'll grant you, is pretty much indistinguishable
from politics to the casual observer. But then, that's the trouble with a
culture of casual observers, ainna? :)

I disagree. ROFF hasn't been strictly FFing for many years, if it ever
was. IAC, it's easy - if you can't tell from the subject (normally,
it's pretty obvious), open the original post and it if isn't of
interest, then don't open any replies. Hell, I've opened FFing-related
posts, had no particular interest, and never looked back.

Oh, please. You're an adult of, um, mature years. If you or anyone
else is going to let posts that you don't even have to read drive you
away from participating in the things you do enjoy, then, said plain,
you (and they) are a big pussy. I can understand if someone just says,
"Eh, not my cup o' tea anymore..." and just quits reading and/or
responding, but the melodramatic exits, complete with "you drove me to
it!!!" wailing is just more noise.

Hmmm...how can I put this delicately? Ah...fuck 'em. If adults can't
control what they read and respond to as well as initiate when given
complete and total freedom, then they probably need to sit at home and
argue with their goldfish. Hey, I don't like "Desperate Housewives" (or
a whole shitpot-full of other shows, either) so guess what? I don't
watch it. But I didn't throw away the TV. I just watch the few things
that I do enjoy and ignore the rest.

The only thing the DDFS has to do with roff is that I announce it here as
well as sending email invitations. There are plenty of people who don't look
at roff at all but still participate in the swap. Tony Weall, Eddie Jason,
Jeffrey Barnes, and several others I've come to know over the years. You
can't get out of it *that* easily, so suck it up and get tying! ;-) Just
communicate with me via email and forget about these dumb bastids (of which
I are one.)
It is interesting watching the "flavor" of this group and its strong
left-leanings as opposed to another group I frequent and its strong
right-leanings. In either case, I usual start replying and then remember the
words of the great wiseman, Sgula, and delete before I post. It's like
practicing abstinence, but more rewarding. ;-)
