the most vocal member of this group but I have really enjoyed reading the
various threads and have benefited from some of your advice. As for the
guidelines issue, I think that the guidelines are a good idea and a
committee may not be too bad either. However, I have seen people (more than
likely newbies) get hammered for minor infractions of the guidelines. Now I
understand that some level of enforcement is necessary but it is also my
belief that the more people that contribute to a group, the wider range of
knowledge and ideas. I just don't think that we should be playing Gestapo
and scaring away people over these minor infractions. Form a committee if
you think that is the proper path to take. However, as one who works for
the government and sees everything decided by committee, sometimes that can
be very complicated if the committee is not always in agreement. So...we
either have a committee of like-minded individuals who will rule against
everyone that does not see things as they do or a committee of individual
thinkers who will not be able to reach a consensus on anything. I for one
kind of like the old tried and true method of ignoring spammers, gently
correcting minor violators and sticking to the one subject that we can all
agree on - Catching Black Beauties.

spam was or I would have stopped posting my rod building supply catalog
posts sooner.
I was hit by one person who thought he was the "enforcer" of the group and
in a not so polite way he made his point clear. I fired back to him about
his methods/tone of informing me of the rules. He got very upset with my
reply, we bantered back and forth awhile, then he quit the group. His
quitting was not my request.
Along the way I have posted some replies to questions if I had value to add
to the topic, but mostly I sat back and watched the power struggles come and
go. After another of the more obnoxious users left the group and before Moe
took over the FAQ pages, I had taken up the drive to reconstruct the FAQ
pages and host them on my site. But, that was short lived, as the once power
king started to tell me how and what should be done. I stopped my work and
others took it up from there.
My point is, over the last few years, more time and energy has been wasted
arguing over what should/should not be done in the ROFB and who the cops
will be than it is worth.
I vote no for guidelines, committees, cops. I vote yes, for not reading
posts you don't like, using the "block" features of the browsers, for less
bickering, for less power struggles and less trying to impress others with
how much you may know.
My biggest yes vote goes to treating people with respect and for getting
back to the real reason the ROFB was started, to discuss fishing, Bass
fishing and fishing related topics.

Max......I, for one, think you have hit the nail squarely on the head! I
read the group this morning and thought I should have gone and put on a
skirt and started doing some dishes! (sorry gals, quoting an dearly departed
old farmer that was a dad to me) "Do as you would be did by" them's words to
live by! Lots of people forget that they are not the only ones on the face
of the earth. No amount of reminding will ever stop in the part of the brain
long enough to be evaluated because they are too busy yippin' when they
should be listenin'. Generally your mouth, when in action, puts your ears
out of gear. People that don't respect themselves rarely respect others.
Some will never learn this no matter how long they live. Too bad for them
and surly too bad for us! Never miss a good chance to shut up. Don't forget
you are "unique", just like everyone else.

should not be set a fire.
Keep the guidelines but allow small postings regarding
information that helps us all reel in the fish such as
guide services, tackle deals or the invitation to see
some cool pics on a tackle/fishing related site. BUT
flame every posting of porno junk to this group.
I vote committee to keep it sane but allow fishing
related postings.

the other ng's you would see WHY we NEED to keep THIS NG policed up.I
for one don't want to be talking about bass fishing and have some CREEP
come on and try to sell xx rated movies or cars or ANYTHING that doesn't
have to do with bass fishing. I think we keep this NG pretty well
cleaned up and we want to KEEP it that way. IMHO

Doesn't matter to me one way or another. Guideline or no I will maintain my
own as most do in my opinion. However I can appreciate a committee if it is
objective and I would consider/abide by suggestions made by that body.
