Had two clun touneys this weekend.

Saturday was at Rocky Point on the Ohio River, 12" size limit. Water was up
and the main river was a complete MUDHOLE which eliminated my main river areas.
Big Deer and Little Deer creeks (where I fished) were very stained unless you
went WAY up the creek. The wind was HOWLING and it was raining on and off, air
temps in the mid 60's with water temps of 68-70. As I know little about these
creeks, I just went fishing. I stuck to fishing water 2'-8' deep near the
6'-15' channels. Threw mostly spinnerbaits, jigs and plastics ad weeds, wood,
rocks and docks. My partner and I had very few bites, as did most of the club.
I landed one and lost one with few missed fish. All my bites came on a
Berkley 6" Power Pulse worm in Blue Fleck, a good muddy water color for me in
the past. Nothing on the spinnerbait or jig. My one fish was 2-6 good for big
bass and third place. Other clubbers caught fish on spinnerbaits, tubes and
jigs, so I guess we had a pretty good mix.

Sunday we fished at Patoka, 15" limit. Water was clear and 64-69 degrees and
the lake was about 6' low. Air temps got into the 70's but started in the mid
40's. Sunny and again, VERY windy. The club did pretty well with everyone
getting one or two fish, but the grassbed bite that is usually so great
(usually 20-30 fish a day person and a few limits) in the late spring/summer
was very slow today as a front passed overnight. But, all the fish caught by
the club still came from the grass beds with a few off road beds in water
3'-18' deep. I managed 2 fish and second place mainly by beating miles and
miles of grass and a few roadbeds too with C-rigs with Zoom plastics. I tried
some shallow areas along with some rock and wood areas, but the grass gave the
most and best bites.

I look to still be in second place in the club with a 1st, 5th, Skunk, 3rd and
2nd.

What really surprised me was how cold the water was compared to what it
normally is this time of year, most likely due to the fact that Fall has come
back to Indiana the last 2 weeks. This cold period seems to have the fish in a
funk as they come out of the spawn. The fish seem to have dissapeared with
only a fish here and there. Hopefully things will stabilize soon and regular
(if there is such a thing) patterns will return.

How is everyone else doing?

This weekend I had an ABA Team, we finished 6th out of 50 or so with 10.08lbs.
This spring was really cold and the spawn was late and now the temps are 10-20
degrees higher than normal (106 yesterday) so the fish are kinda confused. The
fishing was great though, with winds of 20-35 and 45 mph gusts the spinnerbait
and crankbait bite was on. Next week I have the 4th Wal-Mart BFL Event on
Mead. Its gonna be fun.
