Fishing this weekend.

are just starting to lay on top. Very scattered yet. Fished our way out
from the launch ramp, caught a couple small (11 to 13") bass and a few
pickerel by the time we got to the first big bar as you turn toward the
main basin of the lake. Most of those came on Golden Shiner, 5-3/4" Fin-S
Fish, unweighted.
Spent 20 minutes or so working the last rocky point on the East side. I was
fishing it deep, as I usually do, when Frank started casting real shallow.
He got a 3-1/2 and a 3 on consecutive casts. So I started working it
shallow too. We picked up 3 more fish in the 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 range, then it
stopped. All those fish came on 7-1/2" Brush Hogs. Green Pumpkin. Zoom
could discontinue ever color except Green Pumpkin in that lure, and I
wouldn't know it.
Fished around the shallows at the north end, and we got some more 11" to
13" bass and small pickerel on the Fin-S Fish, just like the southern end.
Frank had to leave by 1, so we started heading back in the direction of the
ramp. The big rock point didn't produce anything this time, but the other
rocky breaks did -- at least for me. I got 2 quality fish (4-3/4 and 3-1/2)
and one about 2 on the brush hog. Only the biggest one came from more than
about 4 feet of water, and that one came from maybe 10. There were a couple
beds present, but the fish on them were very involved in love making and
not at all interested in me or my lures. Water temp was in the low 60s by
now. Other spawning areas I saw only one or two beds, but quite a few
'cruising couples', so I suspect there's a whole lot of procreation going
on there today.
Going through the pads to the ramp at the south end, water temps was up to
66. The fish were so active that Frank ended up not leaving until almost 2.
Loads of small bass and the requisite pickerel. I swear the pads were twice
as thick as when we went out in the morning, too. Anyway, I dropped off
Frank, but I stayed for a while longer. Big mistake. I caught one little
guy on a black buzz bait as I was pulling away from the ramp, a couple more
from the pads, and one good fish (a shade under 3) on the Fin-S from a log
just outside one of the spawning areas. The flurry of activity that we
worked our way through an hour or two earlier had definitely ended. I guess
I should have left when Frank did, and come home an mowed the lawn.
Wait a minute. What am I thinking? In what universe would time spent lawn
mowing be preferred over time spent fishing, even if I caught nothing? Not
mine.

I agree wholeheartedly! It sounds like a day that was WAY better than
mowing lawns.
I think that's the reason that I still haven't finished insulating the
basement, we live in similar universes......:)

there was no way I was going to even attempt getting out. So, mowing the
lawn was about the only thing I could think of that I could do without
getting blown away. The best part was the cuttings were all flying over to
the neighbors yard!
I'm headed to Mom's house now, so today has been ruled out. But... this week
seems nice so far, and I'm ready for a little night time action! We'll see
what happens...
