I came across the journal of this self-proclaimed nudist, who details
rubbing her crotch and chest against another nudist at a recent nudist
event in the Boston area:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/shannonkringen/1077473.html?

"he had the great idea of doing "body transfer" painting where i
painted onto his chest then we rubbed against one another like in
lithography or silk screen/monotype where you roll ink with a round
thing...we rubbed in circular motions our bodies so we matched! the
funniest part was doing our croth area! we did t his in front of the
pool area with lots of people around laughing slong with us! so cool!"

Is this allowed at nudist events?

Just because some one is full of shit, doesn't mean you have to believe
them. Why is it that we humans tend to believe a story if its more
outrageous than we could imagine? I believe what you read was just fantasy.

I read through her site and it seems that although she has recently
become interested in nudism and just recently has started to go to
nudist events, she has been been involved in nudity for quite a while
(I also did a Google search on her). It is like what has often been
discussed in here. The fact that you can be nude without being a
nudist. Nudism has a whole philosophy behind it. It is not merely the
act of being nude but the mindset you have while you are nude.

So, while it seems that she has only started being interested in nudism
a short time ago, she has been involved in being nude for quite a
while. She poses nude for art classes. She has a cable public
television show where she has frequently appeared nude. But again, her
nudist activity has only started recently.

The point is, that you could almost understand why she would do it
given that she might not still be fully aware of the whole mindset and
ettiquete behind nudism. But still, what about the person she did it
with? And also it seemed like it was done fully in public where a bunch
of other people were watching and cheering them on. Why didn't someone
from the group there gentle pull her aside and say "we don't do that
here. That isn't what we are about". Instead it sounds like the only
feedback they gave her was approval of her activity.

It is a sad state of affairs where someone could do something like this
at a nudist event full of nudists and the only response she gets is
encouragement for her actions.

Sad, sad, indeed.

By the way, here is where it happened at.

Some parts of the body have "functions". A Man and a Woman rubbing
genitals together have implications. It is certainly something children
(or really the rest of us) shouldn't expect to see at a Nudist event.

She should have been gently taken aside and had it explained to her
that "nudists don't do that type of stuff at our events". Instead she
was in a crowd full of nudists and the only feedback she got was
positive. Disturbing indeed.

I could see how she could have made such a "mistake" as although she
used to work at a strip joint in Seattle called "the Lusty Lady", often
is shown nude in her public access television show, and works as a nude
model for art classes, she has only recently got into "nudism". For as
we have discussed many times here, it takes more than appearing naked
around others to be a nudist. It takes a different mindset.

But to do this in front of a large gathering of nudists, and receive
approval for her actions, well, it is very concerning indeed. Is this
the direction of the modern nudist movement?

It seems this was a 'performance' then...?

A parody? A show to entertain? Lots of them around you know..?

Since when does sex not lead to happy emotional expressions?

> Do people laugh when you're trying to have sex?

As a matter of fact, yes.

If your sex life doesn't induce you to smile, giggle, laugh, and
otherwise express enjoyment of what you do, then I regret to suggest
that you have a drastically disappointing sex life. Laughter is in a
proper subset of the goings-on that (should) happen during good sex.
There is a great deal about sex that, though it makes for good
physical sensation and close emotional bonding, is still silly and
absurd and unexplainably peculiar. Laughter follows naturally.

With that said... On the one hand, I wouldn't much care for such
behavior at a specifically-nude venue; but on the other hand, I
wouldn't get very worked up about it.

Richard asked below what the problem was. Maybe neither of them got
sexually aroused; maybe it was innocent between them that time however
unlikely that seems.

She does call herself goddess. Is that a rejection of all law which
presumes to bind her?

Apart from the thoughts of the performer, of the 0-year-old man who
either was sincere or came up with a dandy come-on, and of the audience,
there is the issue of the body. I think touching the genitals to each
other carries a risk of disease transmission which even wearing a condom
does not stop. So only a husband and wife should have such contact and
only with each other, childbirth excepted. Each of these two should
forfeit medical privacy to the other for a long enough period to know
whether there was any disease exposure. That should be standard
operating procedure throughout the U. S., in my opinion. And it should
chain. Anyone else she rubs against that way should forfeit medical
privacy not only to her but to all those with whom she has done that in
several years. I know. Ugh! But the body does outrank clothes, skins
(for you leather wearers), and privacy.

How innocent was the audience? Did they get turned on sexually? Did they
want to have sex with the performer?

All of us have the Old Adam. That makes such activity suspect.

Walther called dancing "belly-rubbing". What would he have called this?

Any help at all, Richard?

No, that is just a way for her to be a little silly. In actuality she
suffers greatly from a low self esteem and she seems really self
absorbed.

> Apart from the thoughts of the performer, of the 0-year-old man who
> either was sincere or came up with a dandy come-on, and of the audience,

Shannon can be excused (somewhat) for her inexperience in the world of
nudism (as opposed to being nude in front of people which she has done
quite often for a long time in her life). I don't know about how long
the man had been around nudism, but it sure did seem like a come-one,
admittedly one that she was all too willing to accept.

But, the audience, I am sure that there must have been some long time
nudists in the mix there. And for not even one of them to gently take
Shannon aside and tell her that such stuff isn't appropriate at a
nudist venue, that is very bothersome indeed.

In fact, what makes this even worst it seemed like the crowd enjoyed
what Shannon was doing with the guy and gave her encouragement and
positive feedback. Exactly the opposite of what they should have done.

A crowd full of nudists, all approving of what was going on (or at
least most seeming to approve and none of them publicly (or even to
Shannon privately) raising any objections to it. I find that reflects
very negatively on the direction that the nudist movement is taking in
America.

> there is the issue of the body. I think touching the genitals to each

That was certainly a big risk that Shannon was taking. I don't know if
she realized the dangerous health position she was placing herself in.

Well, I to some extent believe you get what you deserve. People should
of course be educated to the risks of certain behaviours (of course
most are now) but if they know the health risks and they do it anyway,
then they get what's coming to them.

> How innocent was the audience? Did they get turned on sexually? Did they
> want to have sex with the performer?

Of course you can be turned on sexually without actually wanting to
carry out a desire to have sex with the performer.

> All of us have the Old Adam. That makes such activity suspect.

Yes, and regardless of whether the audience was turned on sexually, it
was reasonable to expect that the behaviour would generate a sexual
response in those who watched it.

Also, if such behavior is tolerated, then more people would do it. The
question you need to ask is would you want your young child or teenaged
daughter to do this with some male? If Shannon can do it, then children
and teens might get the idea that this is an ok nudist activity and
start doing it as well.

You know..., I don't miss a lot., and I did consider that I laugh
sometimes too, immediately after ...

But weren't we talking about everyone *else* laughing while watching
this couple doing their 'transferring'? I think you might have
mis-understood the situation... The people setting and watching were
not having sex themselves.., as you're suggesting might justify the
laughter.. <g>

The question I put forth was not meant to imply 'satisfactory' sex
either, by any means... :-) I didn't say 'he' smiled and
giggled... I asked if 'other people' laughed... :-) He agrees
that everyone laughs..., more or less... ;->

Btw; aren't you the guy who goes to White Thorn Lodge and is nude most
of the time, but says he is not a nudist? Well, if you can handle
socially nudity, and go to nudist places... I hate to tell you, but
you just might be a nudist after all... I relate to that expression
about if it walks like one and looks like one..., you know? I'll be
at WTL for the VB super bowl... Look for me. I'm 6'5" and have white
hair and an allover... I'll see if I can recognize you too.. I'll
be looking for a duck, right? <g>

Cheers... :-)

Floyd

p.s. Seriously... If you go and if you see me, please say hello.
I'm friendly... :-)

This was done at a TNS Gathering, ( June 20-26,
2005   Eastern Naturist Gathering  Eastover Resort - Lenox, MA
www.eastover.com) This question was also asked on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/the_original_inner_circle
but there has been no discussion so far. Also there and witnessed this
event was Mark Story, a frequent contributer of articles for N magazine.
Shannon Kringen does think of herself as a model of sorts and an artist.
She has a PBS show in Seattle which she at times does nude. The link you
have above is missing some of its information as it wraps in some of the
newsreaders. You may need to cut and paste it into your browser but no
matter how many lines this following URL has in your reader, put it back
into one line, no spaces.

Nothing at all...

As for 'mixed feelings' and 'approving'?

You shouldn't even be thinking of stuff like that...

There are those who apply those same things to you and you are
therefore no better than they when you do the same, eh?

We all have the rights, and our own reasons, for doing things that
harm no one. We need to allow them *all around*.

While perhaps not so 'pointedly' as it was described, but it was in

Yes... We should record everyone who screws, and everyone they
screw...

The mormons already have started doing like this..., only their
criteria is 'children produced'... All they have to do is change the
criteria to 'std's passed'... It's a little bigger project perhaps,

>>>>>>>
Things like this (not EXACTLY this thing) happen all the time at nudist
resorts. That is why they are no place for children.
Nudity is very sexy and people have a tendency to do sexy things when
nude--when clothed too.
But more so when nude.
And take a look at this woman's background--do a search on the net.
She's a long time exhibilitionist who has just infiltrated family
nudist areas and is making them sexier.
No place for children but fun for some adults.

I am afraid that more and more things like this is happening as nudist
resorts are letting in groups into their clubs who are not exactly
nudists, and who in the name of "art" act in very un family friendly
ways. They are doing that to raise revenue.

Shame on Shannon for what she did. But I put most of the blame on the
people in the crowd not explaining to her that it wasn't appropriate.
After all, it wasn't her idea, it was the guy's and since she wasn't
getting any negative feedback, and since she is new to the nudist
scene, I can understand how she might have thought that "this is what
happens at a nudist resort".

If there is blame to be distributed in this event, I wouldn't hold
Shannon blameless. From reading her journal, it appears she likes to
do this type of thing and then justify it as "art". There's an entry
in her journal from a prior trip to Amsterdam where she visits a sex
club and takes in some group sex for herself. She describes the raw
gang-bang in pseudo-artistic terms, e.g. "sharing spiritual energy".
At least at a sex club, unlike at a nudist event, one expects such
behavior.

The comments on Shannon Kringen's activities at the Eastern Naturist
Gathering are being made mostly by people who don't know her and
weren't there. One person took Shannon's account about bodypainting and
turned it into "crotch rubbing."

The painting she did of her and Evan was interesting and worthwhile,
and different from the usual. Yes, I was there. And my goodness, the
genital areas of both were painted! It would be odd if they weren't,
which would draw more attention to them than when they are.

They could be painted in several ways, but many assume it was a scandal
if some body part touched another. (If you think painting genital areas
is itself sexually provocative, then perhaps you've never seen or done
body painting.)

If painting is possible that way (perhaps instigated by Yves Klein in
the early 1960s), then all body parts should be available -- why not?
-- as long as things remain basically non-sexualized, which means with
no significantly *increased* sexual activity. What happened here was
probably no worse than putting on sunscreen.

Naturism is not non-sexual (careful use of words intended) any more
than clothed culture is. (Pardon my negatives.)

Naturists may be as narrow as any anti-nudists. Tut-tutting about an
event you were not present for and have too little information about is
hardly helpful.

Shannon Kringen is a performance artist. What kind, quality, etc. isn't
the point. (It might help to know something about that subject.)

Agreed.

We can't hold Shannon blameless on all this.

This was classic Shannon.

All I was saying was that nudists always say that the moment something
like this happens, the nudists always put a stop to it. But that isn't
what happened here. Shannon was allowed to continue with her junk, and
was even cheered on.

Shannon is from the Seattle area. I wonder what the position of the
Seattle area nudist parks would be if she ever set foot there.

She is a woman who has a cable access show - that's all. I would hardly
give her the status of "performance artist" although she is a pretty
good photographer from what I can tell from the pictures she posted on
her web site.

She is also a self-absorbed, slightly disturbed, individual.

So, you were there!

Why didn't you explain to her that what she was doing wasn't
appropriate?

Reading her blog gives one a pretty good idea of who she is. She was
the one who called it "crotch rubbing" and she liked it.

So why the hell didn't you stop her?

All this talk of perverted acts (when they 'rarely occur') being dealt
with harshly by the nudist park officials is just that. TALK!

Is this the direction of the nudist movement?

So long to "family friendly" nudism (if it ever did exist in the first
place).

Looks like Shannon has deleted the Live Journal entry link above
because of the traffic from here. Here is the entry said:

"club paradise"
wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow

i just had the most unique experience of my life. we went to "club
paradise" http://www.club-paradise.nl in amsterdam. it's on
schaafstraat 26. at first i was weirded out. they have a bar with food
and drinks and mirrors all around with sexual films playing on big and
small screens. they have statues of buddha lit up with candles and
classical nudes pouring water in a loving way...there is dry and wet
sauna rooms, a jacuzzi, swimming pool and some private rooms where you
can go and explore in whatever erotic way you want with friends or
strangers. clothing is optional. they recommend dressing sexy or nude.
no drugs are allowed except alchohol. there is one room upstairs where
you can get fucked by strangers if you want. we went up to watch. i
know this sounds very weird- but it felt very natural and safe. no one
touches you unless you make a move. i felt safe with my 3 friends. (one
couple and the guy i am staying with here in holland.) they kept
checking in with me to make sure i was ok- they know how sensitive &
emotional i am. in the bar i suddenly got fed up with the pop music
playing i hated and i began to pound my chest like a gorilla and i
screamed twice...they asked me what was wrong. i blurted out i hate
this music and i don't like this kind of sex. it's shallow and
superficial and i miss having sex with my ex-boyfriend. -and deep down
i was thinking about my 1995 abortion and how part of me regrets that
choice... (the porn videos i was speaking of) watching people fuck does
turn me on in a primal way but not in my heart. they told me they
understood- so we went back into the two saunas- wet with eucalyptus
oil aroma therapy and dry with such intense heat. i sweat out many
toxins in my skin. i can feel it. we had a nice honest sexual chat with
a guy from turkey and a dutch couple...everyone is nude in the sauna.
some people are being sexual and some are just sitting quietly. it's
all very respectful and no one is pushed to do anything. it's all a
choice. i held back a lot- maninly i watched with fascination and waves
of judgement. sex for me is very personal- and serious/sacred...but
part me of sees the light joy it can be with someone you care about.

we swam in the pool when the saunas felt too hot. it was my first time
in a heated lit up pool fully naked. it felt soooooooooooooooooo
goooooooood to float free and swim naked with other people. our torsos
looked beautiful lit up in the turquoise water. i felt like i was in a
church of some kind-being cleansed and transformed. spiritually aware
and alive. in tune with energy beyond my body-yet still enjoying the
sensuality of being manifested as a human body. i love the weightless
feeling of being in water. my boobs all floating felt heavenly. my
whole body relaxed and open. i felt like a DOLPHIN or
mermaid...gracefully spinning/jumping dancing in the pool legs spread.
yum. the water feels great all over your body. flowing. nothing
restricting you. i love the way my hair brushes up against my arms as
it swims with me...and it looks pretty in the pool light...i got a
thrill from being watched from above- there is a balcony/stair case
above the pool- i wish i had my waterproof camera with me to snap pics
of myself nude underwater or with a lover! us both nude. beautiful.
(THEY DON'T ALLOW CAMS IN THERE THOUGH) it's a privacy thing. people
stood around gazing at us in the pool. at moments i felt like a piece
of meat on display and at other moments i felt happy and free and i
enjoyed being appreciated with eyes of strangers and eyes of my 3
friends with me.

we went into a private room- all four of us and locked our door for
privacy. two couples basically. we started with me in the center- they
caressed me all over and kissed me. i don't really wanna write it all
out- it's kinda scared and personal- but we all were making love- and i
held back a lot- in some ways- my natural rhythm seems to be one on one
sexual union with a man...this was different. we were sharing energies.
two males/two females- i listened to all the breathing and was more
aware of my own heart beat and breath. it was more tantra than "sex"
for the sake or orgasm- but witnessing each other come was very lovely.
being vulnerable and from the heart with others- feels very healing to
me. to build trust in human kind...it was very nurturing sexual
tough...what i call "whole grain" touch...

i am proud of myself for being brave enough to join them and open my
heart/mind/body to this experience. i see now how much i am hungry for
human touch and connection with spiritual people who are honest about
their sexuality. i still have a lot to learn about what i really want
verses "what i should want" deemed by our puritanical/sexually
repressed society. i know i would like a primary partner (male) in
life- and i know i need/want to share touch with more than one person.
not sure if it needs to be sexual- once i am in love i tend to only
want to be sexual with that one person...but sharing affection with
others i care about is always a desire of mine. for once i am not going
to try and solve the puzzle of what i want. i will simply keep flowing
with life and see what i learn as i go. i am open to love/beauty and
truth.

it is so refreshing to be in a culture where sexual freedom is normal
and no one has to sneak around. for instance=gay marriage is legal in
holland. it is anywhere else yet? i wish it was world wide. any two
people that wanna get married legally should be able to! i know when i
get back to seattle it will be a shock. i am just starting to get used
to the vibe of this place. i shared some very beautiful eye contact
with all three people i was with. one stranger at the end asked us if
we wanted to join him and his group- and it was very sincere and kind
and didn't seem "sleazy" at all...just open and honest. fascinating
experience...i am so grateful. i am learning a lot about myself...i
borrowed some orange suede platform boots from the lady we went to the
club with. her and i wear the same european size shoe= 41. i will have
to get me some boots like that! they feel good and look good on
me...boots suit me very well. i want some bright red ones!

when i return to seattle i wanna get involved with some tantra group
and also maybe the naturalists in town who swim nude 2gether. i am
finally figuring out what kind of people i wanna join with.
spiritual/healthmind/sensual/intelligent/open
hearted/compassionate/senstive/love filled humans.

Hi Shannon,

After giving this topic some serious rethinking, I've begun to suspect that
some people are making mountains out of molehills.

When dancing nude with other people there could be times when genital
contact could happen, but very momentarily and nothing that should be of
major concern to others.

I checked out your website after seeing the link to it here, and think your
work is excellent!

I used to have a butoh dancer called Ralph Rosenfield on a nudist group I
managed some years back called NAVEL America. He was a lovely and
interesting individual.

By the way, I checked out the naturist "N" magazine link on your site and
couldn't get it to work. You might like to consider linking to just the TNS
alone. :-)

Keep up your fantastic work, stay kewl!

"painting the entire body is about celebrating being a
natural human being."

Not that there's anything wrong with body painting, but celebrating the
NATURAL human body doesn't require paint. But, this isn't about the
paint at all, despite your red herring. Body painting can be done
without rubbing crotches with another person in front of an audience.

"it felt to me like a very positive experience. "

Of course it felt positive, because it's obvious from your journal that
you crave huge amounts of attention for doing rather mundane things.
Positive doesn't equal appropriate for a family nudist setting.
Rubbing crotches might have been more suitable for the gang-bang, I
mean "sharing spiritual energy" you had at the sex club in Amsterdam.

"i suggest you talk about
events that you were actually present at and not make assumptions about

things you don't know the truth about."

What a huge, huge cop-out. So, that means we can't have sympathy for
those who were killed in the London bombings yesterday, because we
weren't actually there? That we can't have an opinion on how our
Supreme Court voted on eminent domain recently, because we're not
actually there?

YOU were there, and this is what YOU had to say about it:

"he had the great idea of doing "body transfer" painting where i
painted onto his chest then we rubbed against one another like in
lithography or silk screen/monotype where you roll ink with a round

Your tortured "artist" (or "aRtist" as you pretentiously call it)
routine might work with your fans, but there are people on this
newsgroup with IQs in the double and even triple digits.

Sara.....i am torn between crotch exposers and artist.....in tryin to
figure out which is the most holy and honest....the artist sez anything
they do is a work of art....and the nudist sez anything they do is body
acceptance.....well he he ha ha....after watching a euro vid of nude
dancing that is sold by an ex president of the aanr and seeing the
erections of male dancers when dancing with their eager female partners
and viewing the little girls that stand around gawking at those
erections makes one wonder where body acceptance ends and sexuality
begins...or does body acceptance ever end.......now i remember ...at
ponderosa....these same things happening and a few said.....well these
kids need to be in bed at nine oclock....and others said
...awh...shucks let em dance too....it won hurt nuthinl.......and then
ol hoss got busted for kiddie porn and molesting and the helicopters
were flying overhead...while the co .state and local police...and CPS
were searching and interviewing all the kids....he he.....and i bet em
police got a laugh out of how the kids explained those sat nite
dances.......i mean...hey ya just gotta luv em nudist.....they must be
sayin....we aint no cult like jim jones.....see we never give up and
admit the truth.........we will wait till the govt....unanamously closes

We all have our own tastes, I beg to differ she's a good photographer.
Her "work" seems just a sloppy shrine to her self-absorption:

Is that a finger in front of the lens?

The primates are out of focus and not exposed properly, nor framed in
an interesting or artistic way.

These shots from the zoo aren't anything exciting. Anyone with a point

Videotaping yourself for half an hour rolling around nude on the floor
to Tori Amos music and pulling a used, bloody tampon out of your vagina
doesn't take much talent, thought, or effort. However, I suppose that
one could argue that a performance "artist" doesn't necessarily need
talent, thought or effort.

Then why did you post that the funniest part was rubbing your crotches
together. Such public behavior is disgraceful and completely out of place at
a Naturist Gathering. It's exactly the kind of thing that people who want to
outlaw naturism and nudism use against us. We hope you never do it again and
that you take your "report" down.

You owe us all an apology.

So can we, including slow dancing close together, but we don't talk about
rubbing crotches.

What on earth do you think the vast majority of people who are reading your
report will think. Ask 10 random people on the street and I'll be you $100
that the vast majority of them will say it was sex.

Yes, but it's not about rubbing crotches in public and you should know that.

It is, but to most of the world crotch rubbing isn't.

Actually, that's the way she described it herself.

True, but those who want to outlaw us won't see it that way.

What you say is true, but the what matters most here is that those trying to
outlaw us use this kind of stuff against us. No people should be rubbing
crotches together in public at a Naturist Gathering, period. It doesn't
matter if we were there or not -- Shannon is reporting what she did, so
unless she's making it up, we don't have to have been there.

She disgraced herself and all of us. Her own report clearly shows she's no
friend of family naturism. It's this kind of "Anything goes because we're
nude." attitude that brings trouble to us all.

So you weren't telling the truth when you posted:

"we rubbed in circular motions our bodies so we matched! the

Or is it that you're not telling the truth now?

Or is it that one post is true some of the time and the other post is true
the rest of the time? Or?

But you did do it "in front of the pool area with lots of people around..."
or at least one of your posts says you did while the other one says you
didn't.

> you are totally misconstruing the truth of what occured.

OK then, tell us which post to believe and we'll be all set.

Keep on talking; the more you do, the deeper you dig yourself in. You turned
red from the crotch painting (but not from any other body part painting) but
it wasn't sexual. OK, that's easy to believe, right?

> i don't get why you people are getting so freaked out by bodypainting

No one is freaked by body painting. What seems to be troublesome is that you
posted that rubbing crotches with Evan with lots of people watching was the
funniest part, to use your own words.

In case you didn't know it, no responsible naturist or nudist rubs crotches
with another in public with or without body paint.

It's people like you that bring a firestorm of anti nudity laws upon we
responsible naturenudes. You have disgraced yourself and all of us by making
your public mutual crotch rubbings known to the world. You owe us all an
apology.

That photo wasn't taken poolside at Eastover; in fact, knowing the layout of

You are right, nudity is not circumstantial; it is situational!
It is right or wrong, ok or not ok, dependent on the situation.
