I was wondering this too. If someone has a list of the top 200, could
they please post it so we can see what other stupid videos ranked higher
than actual entertainment.
>Duran Duran's "Ordinary World" being in the top 10 ever.
I seem to recall a couple of Duran Duran videos in the list. I realize
that they were huge in the eighties, but still, who are they in with at
MTV?

And not only is there the question of how they compile these lists...but...
What about the "Videos of the year"? Lessee...there's:
"Right Now"--Van Halen
"You Might Think"--The Cars
"Vogue"--Madonna?? <--not sure if this won that award.
(insert any other of the MTV videos of the year winners)
"November Rain" didn't win the award, only the "Michael Jackson Video
Vanguard Award"....What gives?? (actually GNR won the award, not the
video)
These lists they make have no continuity. Anyone?

"November Rain" was, however, the #1 video of 1992. I don't know the
actual release date of "November Rain", or when the cut-off dates were
for the 1992 Viseo Music awards, but is there a chance "November Rain"
will be nominated in 1993? I seem to remember GNR getting a few
technical award nominations this year, but don't remember if they were
for "November Rain" or "Don't Cry". Anyone out there that can back any
of this up?

OK, I think we can all agree that this does NOT belong in the top 10
of all-time. This is a given.

Not so fast. Duran Duran's whole public image was due to the advent of
music videos, and they took full advantage of it by spending lavish
amounts of money on expensive video shoots. This is not to say that more
expensive = a better video, but I do remember watching DD videos (while
they were still in their prime) and thinking that theirs were head &
shoulders above 95% of the crap (from a VISUAL standpoint, not visual)
that was being aired then.
Their "Hungry Like the Wolf" video is STILL one of my favourites, and
a lot of their early-1980's videos stand up today -- so it's really no
surprise that at least 1 or 2 other DD videos made it into this
countdown. You don't even have to be a Duran Duran fan (& I'm not) to
appreciate the fact that their videos were great.

Yes, Duran Duran are to MTV/Music Video as Led Zeppelin are to your
hometown "classic rock" radio station.
(Yes, I'm paraphrasing; I didn't think of this myself).

The whole 200 would be fine!
