Koren, who knows it's only skin deep
oh goodness. i can't resist this...
> What brand/kind do you use of:
> shampoo?
depends on the purpose. i use philosophy clarifying shampoo to strip the
gunk off once a week, bumble and bumble gentle for everyday and philip b.
anti-dandruff in the winter (it works!).
> conditioner?
again, depends on the purpose. bumble and bumble deep for deep treatment,
tri for extra moisturizing in winter, and artec color protector in kiwi
(mmm) for everyday.
> styling products?
artec texture shine (love it to death) and volume gel.
> soap/bodywash?
bath and body works gardenia body wash
> shaving cream/gel/etc?
bath and body works gel in citrus
> moisturizer?
ah, for what body part? this one i think shows how sick i am. i use: body
shop vitamin e gentle face moisturizer spf 15 for day, and night cream for
night; philosophy soul owner for feet; bath and body works healing hand
cream for hands; body shop body lotion in oceanus for everyday; and on
occasion benefit wonderbod (with alpha-hydroxy which makes your skin *super*
soft). i also use kiehl's lip balm #1 for lips.
> razor?
the new gillete venus, which is cool cause it comes with these little
individual waterproof packages of razors that go in the little razor holder
(so no more hopping outta the shower all wet for a new razor blade).
> Do you use cosmetics?
uh, a little. ;)
> What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
> What brands of cosmetics do you use?
lordy, these are loaded questions (for me anyways). i'll go item by item.
eye shadow: i just discovered vincent longo 3-in-one eye shadows and i got
them in mauvish and lavendar-ish colors - so you can contour (medium color
on the lid, blend with light color on the browbone, blend with darker color
on the outer corner of the lid) without spending 14 buck per color. they're
more for everyday. for sheer eyeshadow colors i like stila. for glam i
like urban decay.
eye liner: liquid i like urban decay - it has a shorter stick which gives
you more control. i also use shiseido's black pencil. well, and urban
decay's white pencil liner and bourjois blue pencil liner.
mascara: benefit (it smells purty)
eye makeup remover (very important): joey of new york. it says it's like
your own tears, and really it is. not irritating at all, not greasy at all,
but it gets everything off really quick. and i've tried lotsa other kinds
that can't boast all of that.
blush: prescriptives and benefit benetint (a color stain for lips and
cheeks)
lipstick: everyday is nars; more dramatic is m.a.c. (my new one smells like
chocolate)
gloss: stila is my fave by far. their colored lip glosses are *the* best
and their glazes are nice and summery (tho pricey)
foundation: prescriptives because i think they have the best variety in
colors to make sure it matches your skin tone
loose powder: prescriptives magic (it's like 70% water, or something, and
feels fabulous going on)
coverup: prescriptives camouflage - it works!
pressed powder: stila
nail polish: revlon and opi are my faves
> What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
lipstick. it was my grandma's (old lady hot pink) and my grandpa said it
made me look like a clown. i wore it with a long t-shirt, put on a big ole
belt, and danced around to madonna's material girl like the solid gold
dancer i was gonna grow up to be.
> If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
> what would it be?
oh god, do i hafta? this is painful...
ok, i can't narrow it down to one. but i'll tell you what i take with me
everyday. mascara, lip balm, eyeshadow of the day, pressed powder.
probably if i had to narrow it to *one*, i'd say mascara - it brightens up
your whole face.
> What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
> why others do?
the one i use the least is foundation. only when i'm getting formal for
work do i wear it, and when it's not too hot outside.
> Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
sephora and nordstrom's
> What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
> classic)?
whore. ;)
naw, i like dramatic eyes, and toned down lips. i can pull off more
dramatic eye makeup than other people without looking like a raccoon, so i
tend to do that. but really, it depends on the occasion.
> Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
no person in particular. honestly, i look most to InStyle and Cosmo
magazines. when i get bored or tired of studying, i'll pull out these
magazines and try different 'looks'.

What the hell - I use good products, and it's a perfect chance for me
to tell folks about 'em so they don't get discontinued. ;)
>What brand/kind do you use of:
>shampoo?
Aveda's Pure-fume Brilliant for textured/treated hair. Best stuff in
the world for keeping the purple bangs from turning lavender and the
black from losing its blue in two shampoos.
>conditioner?
Aussie Slip detangler
>styling products?
None. I'm a wash'n'tousle'n'go girl.
>soap/bodywash?
Caress moisturizing body bar. It's one of the few moisturizing soaps
that doesn't give me a rash.
For my face: Biore daily foaming face wash. It doesn't aggravate my
rosacea.
>shaving cream/gel/etc?
I just use soap. Shaving cream gives me goosebumps, which just makes
the whole shaving thing pointless.
>moisturizer?
Aveda's Tourmaline Charged Hydrating Creme. It's supposed to just be
for the face, but since a little goes a long way, and I hate feeling
greasy, I use it all over. Again, it's rosacea-friendly.
>razor?
Mach 3, bay-bee. That Venus razor is just a pussed-up Mach 3 and
another excuse to charge women extra for the same damned thing.
>Do you use cosmetics?
Yuppers.
>If so...
>What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
Kinds? Powder foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick. Pale skin
and dark colors with a little bit o' glitter now and again make me
very, very happy.
>What brands of cosmetics do you use?
Mainly MAC and Urban Decay. Beyond that, it's pretty much "ooo! that
looks neat-o!" purchases.
>What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
Lipstick. Some frosted pink monstrosity IIRC.
>If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
>what would it be?
Lipstick. I hoard the stuff like it's being discontinued tomorrow.
>What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out why others do?
Mascara. Generally, it either does nothing or looks crappy. Very
rarely does it make me go "ooo!" when someone is wearing it.
>Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Aveda, Sephora, the MAC counter at my local Nordstrom's.
>What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,

Um...slightly dramatic classic, I think. I like keeping it simple -
using one color on my face at a time - but I like dramatic, funky
colors.
>Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
Elusis, siobhan, and a number of actresses from the 30's and 40's.

whatever suits my needs and what i can afford. i like the body shop's

urban decay nail polishes i have though i tend to buy a lot of cheap
drugstore brands that work well too like rimmel and Superdrug's Kolor

foundation first because it evens out my skin tone. but if i could pick

think.

Because I'm on a beauty product kick lately, that's what this poll is
all about.
I attempted to make at least parts of it male-inclusive, so please feel
free to respond, bois. :)
What brand/kind do you use of:
shampoo?
Whatever the woman at the salon uses.
conditioner?
Ditto.
styling products?
Paul Mitchell. Some hair balm stuff I bought from the salon that I forgot
the name of. It's not really sold anywhere else, so it would defeat the
purpose if I looked at it just for this poll.
soap/bodywash?
Currently, Lait de Chevre goat milk soap
shaving cream/gel/etc?
Is that still called Skintimate? It has moisture beads in it for sensitive
skin.
moisturizer?
Lait de Chavre goat milk lotion, Jil Jordan sweet almond oil and awaupi
(sp?) lotion, Garden Botanica custom blended lotion, etc. Moisture whore.
razor?
umm, it's periwinkle blue. Gillette? Venus? I don't know. I had a
coupon.
Do you use cosmetics?
yes.
If so...
What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
Cream to powder foundation, blush, eye shadows and shimmers, eyeliner,
mascara, lipstick, lip gloss, loose powder, pressed powder, or some
combination of these. Don't forget the eyelash curler.
What brands of cosmetics do you use?
Fashion Fair, Jane, Benefit, Sephora, Iman, Urban Decay, Two Faced, etc.
What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
Whatever my mother had in her stash of beauty stuff. I played dress up with
a frequency as a very young child.
If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
what would it be?
Lip gloss.
What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
why others do?
Benefit BeneTint. It's a drippy liquid that "stains" one's lips and cheeks
a rosy color. Unfortunately, it takes repeated coats of it to make the
color remotely noticeable on my lips. It costs twenty-four dollars. It
looks great on my cheeks, though.
Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Sephora on the Third Street Promenade, Robinson's May, and the drugstore in
case of emergency.
What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
classic)?
I don't know. I usually go for the most natural look as possible if I apply
makeup during the day. For night, I have a flair for the dramatic, but only
if I am going for effect.
Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
No.
Camille!
pantene pro-v dandruff formula. i notice that my scalp gets dry and itchy,
but this has only started happening in the past year or so when i've been
dying my hair much more than i used to. i find it really annoying, and i
haven't really found any way to deal with it effectively. so i use this
shampoo because it doesn't smell bad, although it seems to have minimal
effect on the scalp problems. :(
>conditioner?
suave strawberry for everyday, and pantene deep conditioning treatment
once a week.
>styling products?
for special occasions only (usually i put my hair up in a bun when it's
wet and don't style it at all).
when i blow it out straight: heads up molding creme or john frieda wax.
sometimes i use an unknown brand of silicone spray to make it shiny and
flat.
when i need to make it all big and puffy for going out: ice ultra-hold
hair spray in huge quantities.
>soap/bodywash?
dial. i sometimes use a peach bodywash, but i'm usually just a soap girl.
>shaving cream/gel/etc?
skintimates peach. it smells yummy. and i absolutely require shaving cream
to not make a mess of my legs.
>moisturizer?
for face- oil of olay (with sunscreen in the mornings, with alpha hydroxy
at night). for body- johnson's and johnson's baby oil (i've always used
jergens lotion in the past, but this smells nicer, moisturizes better,
makes me shiny, which i like, and has a lot more uses- i put it in baths
too). for body on special occasions- slut/virgin body lotions that smell
fantastic.
>razor?
i want to try the venus, but they had a big display truck set up outside
my office, and i went through it in hopes of getting a free razor.
instead, i was forced to endure 20 minutes of venus-salespeople telling me
how the venus would please all five of my senses and turn me into a
goddess. then they had me take a goddess quiz and told me that i was not
quite a goddess because i did not know how many times per year one should
replace ones mascara. all that and no free razor- so i'm cranky with the
venus people and refuse to purchase one.
>Do you use cosmetics?
dear jesus yes.
>What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
>What brands of cosmetics do you use?
mainly mac. i use mac pressed powder, applied with a big fluffy powder
brush, and it's the best powder i've ever used. i used to use clinique
powder, but macs colors work better for me, and it stays on All Day with
just one application. i find the brush means i use less powder, too, so
the compact lasts Forever.
i use mac mascara as well (i used to use clinique, but i didn't like the
brush, and i used to borrow my friend's christian dior, which was
fabulous, but i think mac is the best and it makes my eyes look so much
better).
i have a mac 4 eye shadow set that i got for my birthday last year, and i
use that for everyday eyeshadow. i have some kickier mac and nars colors
that i use for going out, but i don't think the nars colors look nearly as
good on my eyes as they do in the package. :( i also like the benefit
cream shadows.
then i use lip gloss- usually clinique right now. i'd love to have mac
gloss, but i go through it so quickly and require so many colors of it
that it's not economically viable. :) i also have a calvin klein gloss
that i Adore.
i use calvin klein concealer as well.
i use calvin klein foundation on very rare occasions- i hate foundation
and i don't find it makes me look that much different.
>What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
i have no recollection. probably nail polish- i made a deal with my mom
that i could wear nail polish if i stopped sucking my thumb. mom later
revealed she thought this was a trick because they thought it'd be hard
for me to stop sucking my thumb, but i stopped that afternoon and never
did it again. i learned early that you have to sacrifice for fashion. :)
>If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
>what would it be?
powder, mascara, and chapstick. that's all i really need, but i really
need all three of those.. :) i remember when i was learning a song from
guys and dolls for a voice class, one sung by adelaide (the woman who
worked in a night club as a cabaret singer), and my voice teacher told me
to imagine adelaide as a woman who would never leave the house without
mascara on. thought i can't quite figure out how, i seem to have turned
into one of those women. :)
>What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
>why others do?
blush. never used it, never want to. looks funny.
>Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
mac mac mac mac mac. i've made recent forays into nars, but have been
unhappy with their products (except for the nail polish). i really like
calvin klein as well. i used to rely on drugstore brands, but i've found
that mac and calvin klein don't cost all that much more, and are of such
better quality and last so much longer that it's worth it to me to buy a
few staples from them and just wear that.
>What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
>classic)?
totally neutral for everyday, glam as hell with a bit of punk rock for
night.
>Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
my friend veronica always has interesting ideas and innovations, and i
draw a lot from her. also, the british magazine "the face" is the basis of
approximately half my fashion and makeup ideas.
fun poll. :)

I have this sort of permanent collection of various lip glosses, eye
shadows, lipsticks, etc. I carry around with me. I never use foundation,
because it makes my face feel icky and smothered, but I love lip stuff
and some eye stuff.
> What brands of cosmetics do you use?
Things that are inexpensive and wacky, like Jane. Sometimes I peruse the
"seasonal" section of the drugstore, because if it's around a holiday
(like Halloween) there's usually some wonderful stuff there. Like black
lip gloss. And glittery false eyelashes.

eyeshadow (when I do my eyes, which is infrequent): Stila, usually in Ocean (at

Pity the Cosmetics Industry doesn't ;-(
i think the thing to remember is if it takes a lot on lips, probably you
don't need it there. and it's expensive but should last forever cause you
use so little (even with 2 coats) (it's a little bigger than a nail polish
bottle with a nail polish applicator and a teensy bit goes a long way). the
best part, i agree, is the cheek effect - and that it lasts.

A tight, flaky scalp is the bane of my hair-colouring existence. Grr.
Stuff I've tried that did work:
Tea Tree oil shampoo, which does not smell bad at all and won't strip
the colour out. You can get it at natural-type stores and Body Shop.
Rosemary hair and scalp oil. Massage it in like once a week then wash it
out. Takes a lot to wash it out, and your hair is so soft you can't do a
thing with it all day, though. So do it on a Sunday or something.
Using the conditioner that comes with the hair colour. Rub it into your
hair and scalp at least once a week. It really does help, especially the
Herbal Essences kind. I don't know what's in it, but it's great.
Koren, obsessed with her own scalp
Right now, L'Oreal's Colorvive, but I'm not too impressed. I also
use Pantene's Clarifying shampoo once in a while, like after I've been
out to a club or or otherwise used a ton of styling products and then
sweated like crazy.
> conditioner?
Thermasilk for coloured/damaged hair. I do like this... it detangled
and softens but rinses out pretty easily. Good stuff. Cheap too.
> styling products?
Thermasilk volumizing mousse and Pantene volumizing "settique
spray".
> soap/bodywash?
For face, Oil Of Olay bar or cleansing cloths. For body, Softsoap
Relaxing bodywash. In winter I use Oil Of Olay supa-moisturizing
bodywash.

Venus. It's purty. And I can control it better than the Mach 3.
> Do you use cosmetics?
Heck yeah. :^D
> What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
Everyday: concealer, mascara, blush.
Frequently added: eyeliner, shadow, lipstick.
> What brands of cosmetics do you use?
I like Oil Of Olay's lipsticks (especially Black Cherry) and shadows
(duo sets in purples and silver-greys), L'Oreal Featherlash mascara in
Auburn, Maybelline Great Wear concealer in Tres Faire, Maybelline dry
blush in a little pot that you apply with your fingers, Cover Girl black
liquid eyeliner. I have far too many Lipsmackers. I use Johnson's baby
powder for my face, applied with a fluffy brush. I also have a whole lot
of glittery stuff from Afterthoughts, the mall store I used to work at.
And come the Halloween merchandising season, I go crazy. They had a
Hello Kitty line out at Target with her dressed as a witch! :)
> What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
My mother's concealer stick, the kind that were packaged like
lipsticks. I went downstairs to use the bathroom one night when I was
maybe three years old, and had the impulse to put it on my lips. I had
just finished when my dad came down to check on me. I scared the heck
out of him. *laugh*
As a teenager, I used a glittery purple shade of Almay eyeshadow
first.
> If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
> what would it be?
Mascara. I think I look awful without it. I don't think lip balm
counts. And it's my poll, so I can do that. :^P
> What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out why others do?
I own foundation but never use it. I guess I can understand the
concept behind it, but it's never worked for me and I've never seen a
"real" (ie: not in a magazine) woman look very good with it on.
> Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Target or Wal-Mart, the mall.
> What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
> classic)?
If I'm going to be hanging around the house all day, very natural.
Just mascara and concealer, maybe. In general I like the more dramatic
effect, with pale skin, black liquid eyeliner, dark lipstick. I'm all
about black eyeliner on the upper eyelid, mascara, powder and deep red
lipstick right now. That and all out purple glitter/shimmer everywhere,
like a faery sneezed on me, are my two favorite looks.
> Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
I love the "bombshell" look, especially as recreated by Kevin
Aucoin. He's the one individual whose makeup philosophy most closely
matches my own... cosmetics are fun, they can make us feel better about
ourselves, they don't hurt anyone, and can provide a creative outlet.
But they're just cosmetics.
Koren
to all you boys who think that you're moisturizing your face with water,
you're *not*. water, especially hot water, sucks the moisture outta your
face it doesn't moisturize it. just fyi. so if you're having dry skin, you
should get a real moisturizer and use cooler water to wash your face.

(feeling a need to inform)
i also had this problem. tried all the stuff my hairdresser recommended,
and it didn't work. plus neutrogena t-gel, tea tree shampoo, everything.
still no luck. and you just can not have a flaky scalp when wearing dark
winter colors to court - it can't happen. so i read in a magazine a
recommendation, and figured, wtf, and got it. it's Philip B. Anti-Flake
Relief Shampoo, and i got it from the website (http://www.philipb.com/). it
smells crummy, is astronomically expensive for a little bottle, but it
actually *works*. good luck!

What dat?
Seriously, when dressing up, I usually braid my hair and/or put it in
a bun, sometimes with a snood. To be a little vain, I think I look
nice with my hair up.
> soap/bodywash?
Whatever I buy for the kids, which is usually a baby wash.
> shaving cream/gel/etc?

When I do, I just put a little baby oil on my skin before drying off,
then when I dry off with the towel it takes all the excess oil off,
too. It's quick, easy, cheap, and works very well.

I have a Mach 3. Even though I know it's silly, now that they have a
woman's version I want one. I just need Kirk to take my razor to
leave at work for when he needs it there, see?
> Do you use cosmetics?
On rare occasions.
> If so...
> What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
A light foundation, eye shadow, two covers of powered blush, mascara,
and a tinted lip gloss.
> What brands of cosmetics do you use?
I'm pretty sure it's all Covergirl.
> What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
I was allowed to wear eye shadow, blush, and lip gloss when I was 13.
> If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
> what would it be?
Hmm. Eye shadow, probably.
> What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
> why others do?
Eye liner.
> Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Grocery store, Target, Wal-mart, whatever.
> What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
> classic)?
I dunno. I shoot for an understated but professional look most of the
time, since I usually only where it when performing or at a special
occasion.
If you want the details, though, here ya go:
I start with an ivory foundation, and smooth it around very lightly,
blending down to my jaw. I use a light rose blush to just brush on my
face to give it a little more color, usually on the forehead, nose,
cheeks, chin, etc. I use a little more pink blush on my cheeks. My
eye shadow is usually done in shades of brown -- often, the darkest
shade down on the lids, the medium shade under the eyebrows, and a
very pale beige over both of them to soften the look. Then a little
mascara (usually darn brown or brown-black) and a little tinted lip
gloss (my current is Cover girls lip slicks in "Hint of Sparkle Pink".
That's all, she wrote.
I'll note, I did this exact same procedure on Katrina for her dance
recital. She was entranced.

Carrie, I have a bottle of Benefit Benetint in my medicine cabinet. I used
some underneath my foundation this afternoon. It's lovely. Unfortunately,
the cap broke in two last week. As a result, I had to pour the product

lid. It's a bitch. There is a discussion on another newsgroup about a
comparable product, Philosophy. I haven't used that one.

maybe try getting a big bottle of cheapo nail polish, dump it, clean the
bottle with nail polish remover and then water and soap (lots), and use
that? cause then you'd have the applicator back. i dunno, it's an idea.
i actually have to go light on the cheeks cause i have naturally pink
cheeks, and when i first used the stuff i used too much. my roomie thought
i was ill when i walked outta the bathroom with it on. oops. and it's a

honestly, i haven't the foggiest. but i just asked my roomie, and she said
that it's cause hot water opens your pores thus making it easier to clean
the impurities out, but also making you lose moisture. thus, you should use
lotion after washing so your skin gets moistuized again.

Ummm, IANAD (I am not a dermatologist), but the moisture in your skin is
oil, not water. Too much water breaks down the oils--like when you're in
a bath too long and your fingers get wrinkly. (Or maybe that's not
related at all, I'm not sure. But it could be!)

Woohoo! I know the feeling of elation. :)
I have moderate to severe eczema, and finding triamcinolone was like
a gift from heaven for me. It completely cleared up my poor itchy rashy
skin. Now, of course, five years later and pregnant, damn stuff doesn't
work anymore. So I'm trying fluocinolone... cross your fingers,
everyone. I'm sick of being polka-dotted.

It does have to do with the natural oils in/on your skin being
washed off with overly hot water. Same goes for licking your lips when
they're dry... you're just taking off what little moisture is there
every time you do it.
Koren, who doesn't get why many guys don't moisturize
It says 'Linna' on it. It's mild shampoo (and Finnish). I mix liquid
pine soap with it to fight dandruff. I do not know if it really works.
My scalp perhaps itches slightly less.

Not always; sometimes VO5 moisturizing stuff.

Occasionally hair gel: Herbina extra strong.

Something that hasn't much smell. Right now it's this Lacto plus
liquid (by Finnish Simcos). It boasts to have vitamins A, E, F and H,
which I highly suspect. [1] For my face I use, once a day, Sebamed
(German, by Sebapharma) wash which removes fat quite well. For
handwashing we have liquid soap ("Lemon Juice & Glycerine").
>shaving cream/gel/etc?
No... I had a bottle but it began to leak and I found a big pile of
foam one day. :> I use liquid handsoap instead or just well-wet face
because my beard growth is very moderate.

I'm not sure about this. I might have insisted to try some powder
because I wanted to do things my sister (five years older) did. Oh!
Now I remember: I _did_ try some nailpolish when I was five or six. My
father wasn't very enthusiastic about that. I also liked to sniff my

i have pretty bad undereye circles too, and i found that a combination of
cutting down on dairy (which makes the circles darker, for some unknown
reason) and using this MAC undereye cream called "fast response eye

concealer and sometimes lipstick, but the only thing i do with regularity

i use one dark purple eyeshadow shade to death and then try a different
one--brand doesn't matter. i like jane stuff as a rule, especially their
neutral lipsticks. i prefer cover girl's curved mascara brush, but i
pretty much have to suffer with whatever clear mascara i can find, because
they just don't stock the clear stuff like they do the black and brown. i
use a dark grey eyeliner, whichever brand is in stock and has a
self-sharpening feature. i'm stuck on neutrogena powder, since it
includes SPF 30.
> What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
prolly nail polish, but i don't think that counts. m mother had an entire

more makeup at the con banquet than any other time.
> Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
tar-zhay or kmart. i have no interest in department store stuff, and what
i use is so basic that it'd be pointless to waste money in someplace like
MAC or sephora (which i only even know exist because of you guys).
> What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,

neutral. my grandmother bitches that i don't even look like i'm wearing
makeup. this to me is success.

nope.

Pantene Pro-V...or the generic equivalent.
I also use a foaming detangler that I rinse out, and a spray on
detangler made by Clairol, I think.
>styling products?
I use pantene gel. I rarely wear hair spray.

Ivory soap and some kind of face wash that I can't remember. How do
you people remember all this stuff?
>shaving cream/gel/etc?
Um...yes? I don't remember the brand.

Pond's skin cream for my face, some smelly stuff from Body Shop for
the body.

Daisy razors.

Yes
>If so...
>What kinds of cosmetics do you use?
I wear coverup, lipstick, eye shadow and mascara. Sometimes I wear
blush. I stay away from eyeliner because it just makes me look to made
up.
>What brands of cosmetics do you use?
I like drugstore cosmetics. Revlon, especially, but also mabelline and
Cover Girl. I don't find it worth it to spend too much money. If I buy
the most expensive makeup of the cheap kind, I'm usually happy.
>What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
Probably some kind of candy lip gloss.
>If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),
>what would it be?
Mascara. I have nice long lashes, but they're blonde. I feel naked w/o
a little brown mascara.
> What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
>why others do?
Eyeliner.
>Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Anything I can get at Rite-Aid. They have a money back guarantee on
cosmetics there. So I can buy a racy red lipstick, take it home, find
out it looks like shit on me, and return it for a full refund!
>What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
>classic)?
Mostly neutral, but I do tend to wear purple on my eyes, which I
suppose is a little dramatic. Sometimes I'll wear a really dark
bluish/purply lipstick combination to go with it. That's if I'm going
to a concert or a club or something.
>Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
No, not that I can think of. After years of wearing cosmetics, I've
found that I really have to trust myself for what looks good on me AND
what I'm comfortable wearing. That goes for clothes too.

Dude, that's so simple. But, my comp's in the basement and the
bathroom is on the second floor so....
but I did remember to look when I finally took a bath today.
Apparently I'm using "Clean & Clear" foaming face wash, Skintamite
shaving cream, and a detangler by Nuetrogena. Just in case y'all were
dying to know or something.
skintamite! i assume you mean skintimate, but i would much rather use
skinatmite. it's skin-ta-mite!

oh, we were. :)
abby.
(what flavor of skintimate, though? i need Every Last Detail!)

I used to be a silk effects devotee, but then it just kinda stopped
working. It would take me four or five passes over the same area of skin
to get the hair shaved off. Which of course gave me razorburn. :^/ I
wish there was some medium between "get a clean close shave" and "get a
safe nick-free shave".

Um...not sure? For dry skin? I'm at work now, else I'd check for you.
Oh well, you're just going to have to wait until I get home.

Well, duh. :^P Still got the same un-silk-effects with a brand new
blade. Those safety wires were so safe they wouldn't even cut my leg
hair, let alone my skin. Sheesh.

There is a certain element of danger involved. ;)

I actually find I have fewer nicks and cuts because the thing is so
smooth.

> > Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
Following up to myself, I'm not sure I have actual creative
inspiration for this, but I decided it had just been too long since
I'd dyed my hair, so I went and bought some Garnier to do so. I
picked up the "Luscious Mango" color, subtitled as "Brilliant Copper".
I also picked up a shower cap, and Kirk and I dyed it by pulling locks
of hair through holes in the cap, and then just using the dye on those
locks. It's a good thing I only do streaks, because just that took
the whole bottle! I'd need two or three to dye all my hair.
Anyway, it turned out well, although we'll have to refine the shower
cap technique. Kirk really likes it and says this is his favorite of
the colors I've chosen, because it's nice and bright but also looks
like it could be natural. I agree with him. At Gareth's birthday
dinner, when I went out to get the cake, his mother commented that she
really prefers my hair when I just leave it along, but Kirk responded,
"No, I really like this color on her." Her response was, "Really?
*incredulous tone of voice*" Yay for my hubbie! :)
me too! and the razor head is on that wobbly deal so it follows along my
skin so i don't have to do it - which was generally my problem, esp along
the knee area. honestly, i haven't gotten any cuts on my legs (well, from
shaving ... our cat on the other hand...) since using the venus razor. of
course, ymmv.

if i had to live with one type of cosmetic, it'd be nail polish. Black. I know
this isn't a cosmetic, in the substance sense of the word, but i don't
understand why people use eyelash curlers. I get the same effect just using
mascara.

Ulta 3, afterthoughts, limited too. Some I get for free at different gigs.

Not from one person, but I draw inspiration from Gothic styles.

*heh* My mom was twitting me about my watermelon-colored streaks a
couple years ago, until I pointed out she used to frost her hair. She
said she hadn't done that for years, and then the next time I see her,
her hair is blonde! *rolls eyes*

Herbal Essences, Natural Volume for both. I used to use the stuff by Matrix
that allegedly adds a ton of volume but after spending $20, I found out it
doesn't work. I just liked the smell of it. I find that the HE stuff works
and smells great.

Matrix gel, Clairol Daily Defense hair spray (it works!)

Dove Moisturizing body wash

Skintimate shaving cream - you get better coverage with the cream than with the
gel. I use the original formula in the pink can.

St. Ives on both face and body. I use the Alpha-Hydroxy on the face and the
Swiss Vanilla on the rest.

Some Shick razor...I need to switch to a new brand or a new razor though.
Either that or I need to stop my hair from growing so I don't have to shave
every day. :)

That's an affirmative.

Powder, concealer, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, and occasionally eyeliner and
blush.

Powder, concealer, and mascara: Maybelline (the mascara is their curling one
which is just as good as the expensive stuff)
Eyeshadow: Cover Girl trio
Blush: Colourings
Lipstick: various brands including Revlon, Almay, and Colourings
Eyeliner: Colourings
>

Either Bonne Bell or Colourings

Powder. It's the one thing I wear when I don't wear anything else because my
skin is so oily you could grease a cake pan with it.
What cosmetic do you never use and can't figure out
>why others do?
Foundation. I have oily skin that is prone to breakouts and caking on
something over that just seems stupid. Plus, I don't like the heavy makeup
look. I used to wear foundation but realized I looked like a clown.
>
>Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
The grocery/drugstore and The Body Shop.
>

I always go neutral. I have warm coloring but pale skin. I tend to gravitate
towards things with brown tones. My favorite lip stick is Mocha Java from The
Body Shop - it's the perfect neutral/warm shade.
>
>Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
I flip through In Style magazine to make sure I'm still doing it right. :) I
haven't changed the way I do things very much in the past 7 or 8 years.

powder, concealer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick, nailpolish

a lot of my old stuff is Garden Botanika. Nowadays I get stuff at
Sephora, so I've got more big brand names... Tony & Tina, Benefit,
Urban Decay, Club Monaco, Vincent Longo, Bloom. Oh, and I always use
Mac Studio Fix powder.
> What was the first cosmetic you ever used?
I started wearing nailpolish regularly when I was 9 or so. Then, um...
I convinced my mom to let me buy concealer in 8th grade, I think. And
blush and lip gloss a bit later (luckily she let me, even though she
told me that I wasn't allowed to wear makeup until I was 17... hah!)
> If you had to pick one type of cosmetic to use (ie: mascara, blush),

I need lipstick. I think I look weird without it. well, powder too.
and nailpolish. if my nails are unpainted for more than a week I have
to paint them.
I don't use blush. I don't know why people want color on their cheeks.
> Where do you buy your beauty products/cosmetics from?
Sephora, usually. Garden Botanika once in awhile (though most of them
near me have closed down). And whatever department store has a Mac
counter.
> What makeup style do you most often use (ie: dramatic, neutral,
> classic)?
dramatic usually. these days I wear black eyeshadow above and below my
eyes, and either a really dark red lipstick (I have a Black Cherry
matte lipstick that I got from goodgoth.com that's really great) or
Urban Decay's Metropolitan, which is a really pretty deep pinkish
color. sometimes I do the purple look, with black and purple
eyeshadow, and dark purple lipstick (Club Monaco's Orchid Smoke -
wonderful stuff). I add silver sparkes to my eyes, lips, and cheeks
whenever I'm dressing up, particularly when I go goth clubbing.
> Is there someone you draw creative cosmetic inspiration from? Who?
hmm, no one in particular. I just play with my face on my own and
figure out what I like and what I don't.
> Koren, who knows it's only skin deep

There's a new moisturizer out that claims it slows hair growth down.
I'm a bit freaked out by this... has anyone tried it? I guess the idea
is that you can go longer between shaves.

Have you tried blotting papers? I use Papier Poudre, and I do not
know what I would do without them for my t-zone. They leave just a
little trace of powder but totally soak up all the oil from the skin.
Fabulous, especially in the summer.
Koren
have ordered it. will report back once i have a verdict. ;)
