Which album do you think has the best artwork?

My favorite is UtP. I love how everything just flows together. The
broken lightbulb, the cover, everything. I really like the artwork
for all the UtP singles, too, 'cause most of them follow that theme.

So what do y'all think?

I haven't liked the posters I've seen either, though I've seen very
few. The one I really like, I bought, and I haven't seen it anywhere.
It's a pink/purply tint, with a shot of Tori from the chest up in a
sleeveless top, looking to the side. If anyone knows where to get
another copy of this, please let me know...mine got ripped. :(

To stay on this thread, I would agree with UtP...that "circle" pic is
amazing. I also feel that BFP had some compelling photos, as well.

Are you talking about the one with half her face showing. I think it is

The best artwork and best CD i've ever owned in my collection of 170 CD's would
have to be Boys for Pele. It is absolutely marvelous. I don't know how come a
lot of Toriphiles don't like this one. It is the best, in my opinion.

Anyways, the artwork is astonishing...especially where the pig is sucking her
breast! lol....I like the scene where she's wearing white on the mattress. But
the picture that is so beautiful is the cover of the Talula single where Tori
is sitting in the carriage with leaves everywhere :)

i agree here, my fav artwork would have to be in BfP, and that picture really
gets me, i love it.

yeah, that picture is really good too. UtP is perhaps my favorite album
musically, but in artwork, it's one of my least favs, i don't know why, there's
absolutely nothing wrong with it, it just doesnt really appeal to me i suppose

I have a great Tori poster that I haven't seen anywhere else which I
got a couple years ago for 5 bucks. I'll describe it to you and you
all can let me know if you've seen it... It's a pic of Tori at the
piano singing, with her face turned in the general direction of the
camera. she's wearing bluejeans and a brownish sleeveless shirt and
she's got this *great* classic Tori look on her face. You know the
one, it's really seductive and like "grr, you know you want me." :)
Great pic. She looks pretty young, too---does anyone know when this
picture was taken?

oo i have that poster too...but i took it down because it freaked out my friend
ahahahaha. she spends the night all the time, and she said having to look at a
giant Tori with legs spread was just too much cause it looked like Tori was
staring right at you. hahahahahaaha. so it resides in my closet now.

No, but I've seen the poster. They had a poster sale a school last
year and they had a HUGE version of that poster. I was so tempted to
get it, but I had no room for it.

yeah, someone else (/nad?) said that this poster was huge. The one
that I have isn't huge, it's pretty normal sized as posters go. Maybe
there's an enlarged version of it somewhere. You're sure we're
talking about the same one? prolly, I explained it pretty well...
*great* shot. I'm so happy I picked up this poster when I found it in
Georgetown. Every time I look at it I smile. :)

Just noticed something . . . the poster you're talking about (and that
we have) is from the same photo shoot (concert) as the May picture in
the Tori 1998 calendar. The one in the calendar is different than the
poster, but they're definitely from the same event.

Best art? CGH by a wide margin. The dark images, alternatley evoking
sensual mystery, fragile isolation, and perhaps the aftermath of a
violent encounter, are very alluring indeed and, alas, more engaging
than most of the songs on the disc I've heard (about 5 so far). The
look reminds me of the work of some Symbolist painters whose names
escape me right now.

Loved what I saw of the "Spark" video too...

When was that from? I just noticed something, also... i was looking
through "all these years" and I saw a picture of Tori which was
definitely from the same show as the poster I'm talking about.
However, it was a much wider shot with "bosendofer" (sp?) clear in the
picture. My poster is closer-up, and vertically oriented, with not
much of the piano but a great shot of Tori. The picture in "all these
years" may have been turned into a poster as well, which could be the
very large one that a couple people mentioned...

Without a doubt it's the BfP artwork. The pig-suckling and
wagon-spread poses are classics for me, and I really like the
shot of the puddle reflecting the crowd gathered around the
burning piano. And then there are the sassy jabs at manhood,
like the swinging dead cock and de-horned bulls milling about
impotently. ;) And the cute ending shot of Tori peering up
impishly with a smile playing on her lips.
However, FtCH is a close runner-up... for one thing the stunning
layout of Tori curled up and dreaming with that Tolkien-esque map,
and then the spooky Aryan/Children of the Corn twins flanking Tori.
And I really like that dark drowning shot of Tori (the one that
ends up as the cover of the Spark Pt. 2 single). I'm just not
crazy about the road-map-esque folding of the booklet.

[snip]

wow, great question! it's hard for me to say, since i
think they are all good in their own way. but i'd have
to say the BfP artwork is my favorite.

i love the little butterflies found here and there in
the photos, like the one on the talula single and in
the photo of tori on the coach. i also like the cover,
where tori is holding the gun with a "where d'ya think
yer goin', bub?" look on her face, and the boys peering
out the window, begging to come out and play.

i like the mattress photos, with all the trailer trash stuff
around tori and some religious icons scattered around.
the photo from the inside of the uk ltd ed cals is rather
nifty too - it's tori sleeping?

i adore the photo of tori in the gas station parking lot
in front of that burning piano. i still don't completely
understand that imagery, but i know there's something
there.

anyway, the whole scheme summed up, for me, is that
of protecting yourself, survival, the need to guard what's
inside that house by any means neccesary, hence the
gun. maybe the burning piano is a sacrifice.

it's strange, the albums are a weird lot. imo -

LE = air (happy phantom, little earthquakes, winter,
mother...these are all "airy" songs. there are a lot of spaces
and silences in the music...)
UtP = earth (tori said that the album was made in new mexico
and that it was practically recorded in the mud. bells for her,
cloud on my tongue, god...those songs all seem so brown.)
BfP = fire (everything about this album screams red, from
blood roses to little amsterdam.)
CGH = water (iieee, liquid diamonds, pandora's aquarium...
definitely watery.)

can anyone else see this? i never made this connection
until now. i think it's interesting.

back to cover art - i really really love the copier art
from CGH. since i work at kinko's, i'd be interested to
know exactly *what* type of copier was used to produce
such quality photographs. i read that the work was done
in a copy shop, but i wonder if the work was played
with digitally after being photographed. those had to be
seamed together somehow and there are hardly any lines
to be seen...color copiers usually only do 11X17 prints.
perhaps a medical copier of some sort was used. otherwise
the photos had to have been pieced together...

again, great poll, /nad. :)

the jig is up.

there are a *lot* of pics from that show, one of which is on the cover of
the PTM LTD. i'm pretty sure they were taken at a UTP concert, which
would make it '94.

I love Cindy Palmano's photograpy, especially on the Winter stuff and and other
parts of LE, but I think the UTP artwork is just incredible. My favorite has
to be the one of tori curled up lying down, and even more so with the beakers
and bones and butterfly in a circlish fashion...

but... I gotta give props to the new artwork for Choirgirl... copiers and
all, it's very interesting, and the blue shots for Spark (where it looks like
she's underwater and mermaid-like) are just beautiful... i love the one on the
inside back cover--even if it is covered by credits and thanks and things...

Hm... very interesting. Coincidence? I think not! ;) Actually, it is just
enough to make me wonder if its intentional on her part.

Actually, I'll have to set aside a few hours one of these days and listen to
all four albums in succession. (now, to figure out how to find time to do
