I believe I'm a normal male. Whatever that means. However, I don't like
the sound of my "normal" tenor voice, especially when singing, I
believe I sound too nasal, etc., However, I recently discovered that
when I pitch shift my vocals further upward; using Power tracks Pro
say, up 3 to 5 semitones, I sound much different, and much better - I
sound like a woman, a beautiful sexy strange lady; and not
surprisingly, she sounds great to me!!!

Now, this brings up a whole bunch of psychological, philosophical
issues for me. One thing right away is that I think I'm falling in love
both my newly discovered female sound, and with my feminine self! I
have tested my recorded new-sounding-self against unsuspecting friends
- they like the sound too, but they don't recognize that it's really
me. They don't even believe me when I tell them it's me. And when I
finally convince them that it's me, they immediately start thinking
about possible homosexual, transsexual, and other wierd psycho
implications, etc., which is sort of embarrassing, But, so far, it's
all been taken with good humor. Anyhow, I really like the newly
discovered stranger, the female gal inside of me. We get along great. I
guess She's been hiding (suppressed) there all along. Actually, I wish
I had discovered her long ago. Sigh!!

Truly, I suspect that we all have latent opposite gender components of
our personality. And, it seems possibe to me that their subliminal
effects (jealousy, etc.,) may cause interpersonal relationship
problems between couples, friends, coworkers, etc., even with one's
self, that we are not consciously aware of. I'm not a psychologist, but
I can see a lot of possibilities here.

And Imagine a guy like Johnny Cash singing "live" on stage, and
suddenly sounding like Barbara Streisand, or vice versa !!! Wouldn't
that blow your mind? Apparently, it was technically possible back then
and for quite a few years. I don't know of any such "stars" who
actually did so, seriously, but maybe some did.

Right after I discoverd it, being curious whether many other people
have discoverd this gender morphing phenomenon and what its social
impact and effects might be, I did some Google searching and, as usual,
found more information than I wanted to know. One thing I learned
that's especially nasty and disconcerting to me is that feminist
mothers are deliberately grooming their sons to be SNAG'S, wimps and
pussys. Of course, the hard core feminists are only too happy to see
and/or encourage macho males to shift to feminine type behavior, but
they'd much rather prefer all men to just die off altogether, I'll bet.

Anyway, it sort of pisses me off that by accepting, indulging in, and
enjoying my new found gender fantasy, I would be playing right into
their hands. However, enough of that shit.

Given, that electronic pitch shifting, correction, voice harmonizing,
etc., is already so much in use; in the music, recording industry, and
elsewhere; and has been for a long time, (without widespread public
awareness) here are just a few of many related questions that I can
think of:

1. Is this psychological gender shifting phenomenon (Via voice
shifting) already old hat, or is it the wave of the future; in music,
telephones, and elsewhere? i.e., might this become a runaway new trend
in the music industry, or society in general?

3. Might the fact that when one's voice is pitch shifted, one sounds
convicingly like the opposite sex, indicate that one has latent
transsexual predispositions or tendencies?

4. Is there anything morally wrong with a person loving himself or
herself (their alter ego) as the opposite sex? Like, for example;
occasional non-excessive self gratification with the other self in
mind, perhaps while connected to a vocal pitch shifting apparatus?
Why would that be wrong?? Heh, Heh }:-)

5. Should we keep the other self suppressed? Why not love them? Isn't
that the same as self-love?

6. Am I weird for thinking about this stuff?

The questions seem endless...

Yep.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You have a nice strong falsetto range like all adult males. Its use is a
centuries-old practice; if you really need to read gender issues into it,
please do so somewhere else.

Sorry; I misread your post. I didn't see before that you're actually using
pitch-shifting methods, not your falsetto range.

I still think it's bunk and belongs in another newsgroup, however.

A little bit OT maybe.

But the idea is pretty fun.
Am I secretly a homosexual because Sharon hit a low E in a torch song, and
it was both Erotic and Tear-jerking??
