After re-reading the brilliant arguments of J.R. Laredo and his friend
LJS's comments (LJS is like the rmt version of Fox News... Keepin' 'em
honest. A no-spin zone.) I could only come to the conclusion that I have
been terribly terribly wrong about things and that I have been leading
the poor virtuous virginal music student Jon Slaughter down a path of
musical ruin.

My suggestion that successful music somehow relies on contrasting
musical events and contrasting musical elements is so far off as to be
laughable.

It's so clear to me know that it's the lack of contrast that every
composer should be striving for.

Sincere apologies to all.

Obviously, the most inspiring music would be a single chord/melody
sustaining forever. I can see that now.
Thank you so much.

Actually... in the original discussion I never said the melody of the whole
song was one chord tone per chord. I meant, if it was not clear, that there
were phrases of songs that were one chord tone. I generally don't equate
"melody" with the whole melody line of the song. I tendt to think of the
melody as the "hook" or main melodic idea. If you have different
improvisations around a "melodic phrase" I would say they are based on the
same melody even though the total melody of the two songs(ok, pieces) could
be drastically different.

Well, now I understand. Joey. You are a complete fool. Why you would
add another dimension to the argument at this point is simply the
workings of a very feeble mind. YOU are the only one that is putting
in "a value judgment". That is right. YOU and only YOU have mentioned
anything about what a "good" melody is.

I can see that you are of the opinion that the Hyms suck. I don't
care. If you think that, that is your opinion. Only a fool would think
that weather or not these melodies that have been around for centuries
and have been sung by millions of people both for pleasure and for
religions thought would spend all this time and energy on melodies
that suck. These melodies have been quoted by almost all recognized
composers. Bach harmonized a lot of these terrible melodies. I am
personally surprised that Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and so many other
composers would select melodies with a "lack of contrast". Of course,
Joey knows better than these men that have been a household word for
several hundred years and whose music is listened to by practically
everyone.

And I would be offended with your Fox news comment except for one
small detail. Could you really, I mean by any stretch of imagination,
by any set of rational standards consider Fox news to be a "no spin
zone"? Fox news is the definition of "spin". They are the absolute
most dishonest "news" show on the air. Jon Stewart has more news then
Fox. There is no keeping a fool honest. You have been a testimony to
that. One wonders how you can read my posts if you have "kill filed"
the poster. Is this another example of your honesty? or is it your
foolish notion that a "kill file" affects the poster in some manner?
Joey, "kill filing" is putting your head under the sand. I can read
your stuff but you can't read mine. I ignore many of your idiocies. I
don't have to kill file you. I can simply ignore you. But every once
and a while you say things that are so foolish that they need to be
addressed so that students don't think that they have any merit in the
real world. Maybe where you live, but not in the real world.

And so predictable. Now after all of your foolish statements have been
over addressed, you proceed to the next step. You make up some more
foolish lies and absurd statements to try to divert attention away
from what you have stated. Well, its all there for anyone to reread
(if they need to) and see that this is just more nonsense. YOU are
the only one that made any value judgements as to the melodies. JRL
and LJS addressed your misinformation, your lies, your absurd claims,
your lack of understanding of what even YOU are talking about and
never have we, nor anyone else, have made any of the claims you are
now attributing to us.

This is (if I remember correctly) the final step before the profanity
and/or the kill file. Well, you already kill-filed me so I guess it is
profanity for me and kill-file for JRL. If anyone out there is
interested in your foolish statements and still think that they are
statements that I and JRL have made, well, I suppose that they will
agree with you that Fox is a real news station. And they probably
listen to Rush Lumbar (sp.) because he "reads the news and tells his
listeners all that they need to know". I think this can be said of
music "preachers" as well but never by music teachers. Which category
are you a part of? Maybe that is why you only had to deal with one
poor person with you PayPal problems. (poor guy, and then you told him
to fend for himself!)

You are quite a package.

Jon, this has very little to do with you and I, for one, certainly do
not blame you for this absurdity. You made a statement and Joey
started misunderstood or just popped of with his comments and then
when called upon them made even more ridiculous statements. As you
might have noticed that I had been complimenting Joey when he made
good statements, I simply sent him back facts about his claims. He
decided to make them more absurd. Sorry to put you in the middle.

Have you listened to Albanian music lately? - Perhaps Tirana Folk
Ensemble has some such tune.

There was actually a melody written about 10 or more years ago that I
heard played on a radio music talk-show. The Host claimed it was written
about only One Note!

You see, it entertained a continuing chord progression that gave the
impression of some kind of melody. It was actually a Stunt,, Drab,,
Uninspiring music. I don't know how it got published. Unless it was
"self published" which often occurs in Books,, non-fiction.
