I met Perry in the mid '80's, after a concert. It's memorable for
several reasons. First, it was a wonderful concert with a full
orchestra and back up singers and dancers as Perry performed two
hours
of hits and stories. Secondly, I was able to have my late parents
with me. My mother was a bobby soxer in the '40's and had seen Como
in concert as a teenager. My Dad, a musician who was more than a
fan. Thirdly, while we thought we had the opportunity for a minute
or
two after the concert to shake hands, maybe a photo, Perry invited us
into his trailer and we spent about 15 minutes talking on various
subjects, mostly us answering Perry's questions about us! My Mom was
amazed and impressed because Perry remembered the specific concert
she
attended in Philadelphia. What a talent and what a wonderful and
warm
gentleman.

He could never be big enough to be Big Crosby.

David Crosby grew to be a bit on the big side, though.

Happy belated birthday, to Mr. C.

It's great to hear a story where a superstar lives up to his image.

Thanks for sharing this, Ray.

My mom too was a big fan of his in the early 50s. Had a popular TV show.
I saw him at a Baltimore Oriole game in the 50s when he and shortstop Willy
Miranda clowned around on the field. He seemed to be a real good sport.
Recall that the people commented on how short he was even next to 5'7"
Willy.

Anyway, your experience doesn't surprise me. A real gentleman and class
act was ol' Perry.

I would guess he was 5'5" or 5'6". I have a photo of Perry and my
parents. Unfortunately the photo of Perry and me was lost by the
developer.

I thought Bruce was supposed to be vertically challenged. Isn't he
5'4" or thereabouts?
