First Donna Summer, now Robin Gibb. The old disco stars are dropping
like flies lately!

If you remember and liked the Bee Gees before their disco re-invention of the mid-70's, and enjoyed
earlier records like "To Love Somebody", "Massachusetts", "How Can You Mend A Broken-Heart" and so on, you were a full-fledged Bee Gees fan, and then and then only. I count myself as one of those. You had to own at least one album before Saturday Night Fever, such as 1968's "Idea", for example.

I bought the 1st & 2d lps. The 1st was great; Horizontal was not as
consistent so I didn't bother with Idea. Did buy Greatest Hits (on 8
track tape) which was soon to follow and the CD boxset, Tales from the
Brothers Gibb. I hope that qualifies me in your opinion.

Be that as it may, "Stayin' Alive" is a bona fide classic!

I can't ever be a fan, then. But I was 6 in 1978, so I guess the process of "discovering" that earlier era (you forgot "Words," "Holiday" and "Run To Me") was a waste of time for me.

Thanks for clearing that up.

"Lamplight". Those songs are rarely ever played on oldies station, but
worth a listenj, especially "I.O.I.O.". Tough 45 to find, no idea
what the song is about, but a great song. Another good one is "Jumbo"

Many of the Bee Gees songs were like that. Individual lines of the
songs made sense but overall, they didn't. Barry Gibb was a genius in
that regard. He wrote lyrics that sounded good & were easy to remember
& sing along with but lyrically as a whole they were mostly nonsensical.

Here's the best "Lamplight" I've ever heard:
