As album rock bands, these bands sucked imho... (well some of them made
couple of great albums, but the rest of their albums were ordinary)

01. The Beach Boys - Their best album is supposedly Pet Sounds and most
of it honestly blows. They have had many good singles, but their albums
sucked
02. Grateful Dead - They should be named "Dead Boring" instead. Each of
their studio albums sucked - even the "classic" American Beauty and
Workingman Dead
03. The Doors - The first self titled album was great. The second
(Strange Days) was okay. The next six blew (okay LA Woman was decent).
04. The Kinks - One of the big 4 (Beatles, Stones, Who.... being the
rest) holy cows of the British invasion. But these guys were the
weakest of the four. And their albums are just average.
05. The Byrds - Supposedly started folk rock, Who gives a fuck! Even
their classic albums are ridden with fillers
06. The Band - yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn! that sums up their entire career
07. Eagles - easily the most overrated acts ever. Several good songs,
but albums are average. If someone plays Hotel California again on
radio, I might kill someone!
08. Queen - I don't even consider their best album "A Night at the
Opera" as a classic
09. Clash - London Calling is so freaking long and gets boring
10. Nirvana - Nevermind is a classic (though overrated). Other albums
don't even come close
11. Velvet Underground - Except their debut album, the rest of the
albums are just average.
12. The Allman Brothers Band - good live band that produced crap studio
albums
13. R.E.M. - Nowadays critics consider all their 80 and early 90s
albums as classic. Not true.
14. U2 - Joshua Tree is great... well half of it
15. Police - none of their albums were really classics. Many good songs
but not consistent in their albums
16. Talking Heads - another critic favorite. Too many boring songs and
a singer who couldnt sing at all
17. Aerosmith - Greatest average band of all time?
18. CCR - good singles band, but most of their albums are not
consistent at all
19. Santana - overrated in "Spanish"
20. Jefferson Airplane - boring and very few good songs too
21. Chicago - The first album was merely good, the rest pure shit
22. Crosby Still Nash Young - Made tons of overrated albums
23. Steely Dan - another of those slick bands (like The Eagles) which
produced tons of boring albums.
24. King Crimson - Apart from the debut album and Red, most of their
albums are loaded with boring moments
25. Pearl Jam - apart from Ten (which wasn't that great either) most of
their albums are just okay

Shit!!! 20,000,000 sperm when his father came inside his mother and
THIS one had to reach the egg first. Just one sperm later and the world

If you think "Pet Sounds" blows, check out Brian Wilson's solo project,
"Smile." Christ, what a piece of shit!

> 02. Grateful Dead - They should be named "Dead Boring" instead. Each of

About 20 years ago, I knew a metalhead with a button that read, I'LL BE
GRATEFUL WHEN THEY'RE DEAD. I thought of that guy when Garcia kicked the
bucket.

> 03. The Doors - The first self titled album was great. The second
> (Strange Days) was okay. The next six blew (okay LA Woman was decent).

Jim Morrison: the most overrated performer in rock history, bar none!

> 04. The Kinks - One of the big 4 (Beatles, Stones, Who.... being the
> rest) holy cows of the British invasion. But these guys were the

I love the Kinks' early singles, like "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and
All of the Night." But I've never understood the appeal of stuff like
"Waterloo Sunset." (Gosh, but I'm shallow and stupid!)

> 05. The Byrds - Supposedly started folk rock, Who gives a fuck! Even
> their classic albums are ridden with filler

They had a bunch of great singles, though.

> 06. The Band - yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn! that sums up their entire career

A few good singles, but overall I ain't impressed. And by the way, Robbie
Roberston was a lousy singer.

> 07. Eagles - easily the most overrated acts ever. Several good songs,
> but albums are average. If someone plays Hotel California again on
> radio, I might kill someone!

After the Eagles broke up, Don Henley went on to make the best music of his
career. Meanwhile, his former bandmate Glenn Frey made solo records that
were even *less* substantive than the Eagles' stuff! Guess we know who had
the talent in that group.

> 08. Queen - I don't even consider their best album "A Night at the Opera"
> as a classic

And if I may say so, "Bohemian Rhapsody" sucks!

> 09. Clash - London Calling is so freaking long and gets boring

Here's where we part company. I rather like the Clash, though I can take
them only in moderate doses.

> 10. Nirvana - Nevermind is a classic (though overrated). Other albums
> don't even come close

Committing suicide was the best career move that Kurt Cobain ever made. It's
hard to believe that he'd be revered so much were Cobain still alive.

> 11. Velvet Underground - Except their debut album, the rest of the albums
> are just average.

Another band whose enduring popularity I've never understood. (Go ahead,
browbeat me. God knows I deserve it!)

> 12. The Allman Brothers Band - good live band that produced crap studio
> albums

Some of their blues stuff ain't bad, though. And I still love "Ramblin'
Man," even though classic rock radio has played the living fuck out of it.

> 13. R.E.M. - Nowadays critics consider all their 80 and early 90s albums
> as classic. Not true.

I liked R.E.M. at the time but have outgrown them in the last 15-20 years.

> 14. U2 - Joshua Tree is great... well, half of it

To borrow a quote from that great film, THE COMMITMENTS: "U2? That's
fuckin' art-school stuff!"

> 15. Police - none of their albums were really classics. Many good songs
> but not consistent in their albums

And Sting became an insufferably pompous pesudo-intellectual, with such
brilliant musical statements as, "The Russians love their children, too."
(Gee, Sting, you don't say?)

> 16. Talking Heads - another critic favorite. Too many boring songs and a
> singer who couldnt sing at all

In their defense, though, they had a kick-ass rhythm section.

> 17. Aerosmith - Greatest average band of all time?

That these guys are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a good example of why
I don't take that institution too, too seriously.

> 18. CCR - good singles band, but most of their albums are not consistent
> at all

But damn, those singes were great (both the A and B-sides)!!!

> 19. Santana - overrated in "Spanish"

Love the guitar work. The rest, ehh.

> 20. Jefferson Airplane - boring and very few good songs too

Not nearly as bad at Starship, though. (Can you say, "We Built This City?")

> 21. Chicago - The first album was merely good, the rest pure shit

Not to mention the least creatively-named series of album in rock history.
("Chicago II," "Chicago III," "Chicago IV".... Jesus H. Christ!)

> 22. Crosby Still Nash Young - Made tons of overrated albums

Nice harmony, but mostly dull songs.

> 23. Steely Dan - another of those slick bands (like The Eagles) which
> produced tons of boring albums.

I always felt that Steely Dan was this big "in" joke of which I wasn't a
part. Several good singles, though.

> 24. King Crimson - Apart from the debut album and Red, most of their
> albums are loaded with boring moments

If by "boring moments" you mean entire LP sides, we're in full agreement!

> 25. Pearl Jam - apart from Ten (which wasn't that great either) most of
> their albums are just okay

Hell, I wasn't even that impressed with their singles.

I could point out what a dumb homo you are, but instead I am going to agree
with most of your choices, and I hope that doesn't make me a dumb homo too.

This is how it sorts out:
01. The Beach Boys - At least 20 great hit songs, I never bought any of
their albums, just a couple of their Greatest Hits. That's good enough for
me, so you are wrong about the Beach Boys.

02. Grateful Dead - I saw these guys in concert, and they sucked the crust
out of my asshole. They were awful. Most of their songs are crap too. I only
bought one of their Greatest Hits album, and even that sucked because I only
liked one or two of their best songs. Fuck The Dead.

03. The Doors - You're all wrong about them. They have tons of great songs,
even most of their non-hit songs were very good.

04. The Kinks -Another great band. Great sarcastic songs, especially many of
their earliest songs. They have a long solid history of excellent music, and
their songs are still easy to listen to. They are one of the best bands, and
tremendously under-rated.

05. The Byrds - A total folk-fag-politically-correct bullshit band.

06. The Band - Same Shit, Different Band. They might as well have been The
Byrds.

07. Eagles - I saw them in concert, very good band, but I agree that they
are over-rated, and most of their greatest hits are not that great. Fuck em.

08. Queen - They did tons of awesome songs, you are all wrong about them. If
you were a teenager in the 1970s, Queen was one of the best of that era.

09. Clash - A very good band, they only did a few albums, but they were
solid. Red Angel Dragnet, Ghetto Defendant, Straight To Hell, just some of
the good songs from Combat Rock.

10. Nirvana - Another over-rated fag band. If only Kurt had blown his head
off before recording his first album, rock would not have been ruined by all
the whiny-bitch-cocksucker bands that Nirvana spawned.

11. Velvet Underground -Same Shit, Different Band of cocksuckers.

12. The Allman Brothers Band - Saw them in concert a couple of times, these
fuckers can rock the house down, they are brutally good, they have at least
ten good hit songs, that enough for me.

13. R.E.M. -Another over-rated fag band of cocksuckers. fuck em.

14. U2 - After Sunday Bloody Sunday, they sucked ass and became another
over-rated fag band of fairies.

15. Police -Sting has to be the king of pompous British faggots, even more
than Elton John. Saw them in concert in 1983 in Spain, they were great, but
I have not heard any of their songs in years, and talk about DATED, The
Police are nothing to music history.

16. Talking Heads -I liked them a lot, and had most of their albums, but
they have become VERY DATED and their music really does not hold up.

17. Aerosmith -Another over-rated fag band. They were good until around
1978, since then they are totally gay.

18. CCR - Good band with about ten really good songs. What more do you want?

19. Santana - He is a great guitarist, he has done a few good songs, but
nothing I would ever really miss. I had a couple of his albums and greatest
hits compilations, never played them.

20. Jefferson Airplane - They did about two or three great songs. Big fucken
deal.

21. Chicago - Back in the 1970s, these fucks were on the radio every minute
of every day. Thank God they disbanded. I could not stand their bullshit
songs and faggot harmonies. Fuck Em worse than the Greatful Dead.

22. Crosby Still Nash Young - These guys did some good songs, and any band
that has Neil Young and The Hollies has to be good.

23. Steely Dan - A totally over-rated homo band featuring two fags who look
like the biggest homos to ever claim to be rock musicians. Watch their
videos if you want to throw up. Steely Dan was one of those critics'
darlings that apparently had friends in high places. I like some of their
songs, but when you consider how much mileage they have gotten out of a lot
of average crap, you have to wonder if one of those guys was in the Mafia or
something.

24. King Crimson -Great first album, these guys are just artsy-fartsy
weirdos. I saw them in concert once, and not only did they not play any of
their hits, they refused to play any of the songs that the audience liked.
They got balls, but I am not spending a dime on these motherfuckers.

25. Pearl Jam - over-rated bullshit grunge whiny bitch motherfucker band.
Fuck em.

hey I am talking about their ALBUMS .... not SONGS.... They didnt have
MANY consistently good albums with ALL GREAT SONGS in them. Ofcourse
Beach Boys and Doors have tons of great songs they just couldnt get all
of them in an album. Doors debut album was very good though.

I guess I have to try listening to them again. Nobody seems to
criticize these guys at all.

How many of those albums are consistently good? None... Most of them
have fillers.

Disagreee very inconsistent.

studio albums by Allman Bros.

Yes I like those two songs... And Lola is pretty catchy... but never
got the 1 gazillion other songs they made.

What about Joe Walsh... he was a decent guitarist, wasnt it... The
Eagles' songs are so fucking slick... they even put Journey, Foreigner,
Styx and Kenny G to shame. Oops I forgot to mention them.... well
nobody really rates them high!

I wonder what the whole of UK is on... they were supposedly bigger than
Beatles there.

Their debut album is fairly consistent with some great punk songs...
after that they just had too many songs on their albums.

"Ramblin Man" has become as annoying as "Hotel California" and "A Horse

Yes, your opinion is certainly humble in terms of content. Further you
offer no concrete evidence to back up your views. You seem to be
challenged in terms of your vocabulary, and seem to be limited to the
following certain select words, "tons boring overrated filler fu**
sh** sucks blows" . Come to think of it, that pretty much sums up your
overall post. You are an example of "them that can, do; them that
can't, criticize". Your view as expressed here has zero credibility.
If this music is so bad, why don't you recommend something more
worthwhile? Also, learn how to write before you subject the world to
this pap, pleeeeze!!!! You're not even a good critic! You don't
compel me to rethink whatever opinion I might have about a particular
recording. A good critic does at least that. Probably, you were going
thru your ex's music collection, and decided "I hate all this music
because he/she/it liked it, and I am going to tell the world". Well,
you did! Now get over yourself, and get some musical taste.

Just my $.10, my $.02 is free!!

(Sorry if the above seems harsh, but unsubstantiated criticism is one
of my pet peeves!!)

I am not gonna publish a thesis on why these bands are overrated in the
album rock department. I have heard their albums and they I could
hardly find many albums by these guys which I like from BEGINNING to
END. I never said these bands completely suck. That would be bands like
Europe, Asia, America etc

You should have said "I am not gonna publish a thesis on why (I think)
these bands are overrated in the album rock department" . You are one
listener, one music fan, expressing YOUR opinion. Not fact, opinion.
Subjective, shaded, whatever, but "YOUR opinion", nonetheless.
Everybody's got one. You were making some outrageous unsubtantiated
statements. If you are going to make statements, you need to back them
up. Unconstructive criticism is empty trashing, and I will tune you
out. You never said what you didn't like about them musically.
That's all I was getting at, and I make no apologies.

Oh, and BTW, I like America's music, I like their lyrics and their
harmonies. See, that's an opinion, There are other bands who's lyrics
and harmonies I like and some I don't like. There are other bands I
like for other reasons, and dislike for other reasons (some of which
were on your list). Ask me why (if you care to) and I will tell you,
You don't agree. Can't help it, man, it's my opinion. All I am asking
is do not mistake your opinion for the truth....it's your opinion only.
Again, you never said what you don't like about them. To say simply
that they suck comes across as simplistic, uneducated and uninformed.
What sucks about them?? Don't say 'everything' cause that don't cut it
with me, and tells me nothing. To have the courage of your convictions
means to express them even when others may disagree, and no, you don't
have to write a thesis, but at least respect the audience you are
writing for by being able and ready to intelligently back up what you
say.

Actually, the only 45 record I remember of Led Zepplin's was "Whole
Lotta Love". Many artists in this list had few decent Billboard hits -
and are considered to be Classic Rock than actual hit makers, such as
The Beatles or Elvis. Look at Steely Dan - started out nice with a
couple hit singles, but fell short to chart more.

Amazing - I agree with lots of your choices includeing some that are
likely to get you sent to rock and roll hell - like CSNY but I also
never got the Grateful Dead. I heard them in the early, early sixties
and they were just a 'hey lets get stoned and go to the Dead concert '
band.
I have to disagree with The Byrds because of Gram Parsons - and the
fact that group morphed into the Eagles CCR was a much better band than
they were given credit for at the time. At least they were playing the
Blues.
Otherwise my friend I guess I will see you in hell.

If you are going to rock and roll Hell for desecrating some popular
bands - I may be seeing you there.
I agree with your assessment of The Dead - I was around when they were
trying desperately to hook in with the same crowd that went to
Jefferson Airplane concerts. Mostly, the fans were hard core junkies
and stoners in the beginning - then they just became a commercial gig -
sort of like "Elmo in concert".

Doors - in spite of the hype - they only produced a few really solid
tracks. The organ music on their songs always made them sound like some
kind of circus act.

CSNY - damn you - but I gudgingly admit they are pretty much a fluff
band with some good tracks in their early albums.
Byrds - one of my favorites when I was young - then I repurchased the
cds and discoverd that they had like three decent tracks on each lp. I
still have a soft spot in my head for Gram Parsons.
Jefferson Airplane - turned in a solid debute album but became the
corporate slut of Grace Slick (Jefferson Starship?) maybe six solid
tracks in their entire career.

I'm not going any farther in agreeing with you because you are clearly
the Anti Christ and I will be spending lots of time in your domain for
voicing these opinions.

You couldn't be more wrong about JA. "After Bathing At Baxter's" is
like the anti-corporate album. The record company wanted more three
minute hit singles and they give them "The Ballad of You and Me and
Pooneil" with song suites throughout the album. Grace was like the
bastard child of RCA, doing everything she could to embarrass the
executives. I don't know which album you consider their debut, but
their second album, "Surrealistic Pillow" is a classic that set the
bar very high for all American rock bands. I also believe they were
the only band that ever sang "up against the wall, mother fuckers" on
AM radio in the sixties.

Chicago were NOTHING like those flower children. They were odd ducks
who started out as total hardass hard-on jazz rockers, among the
pioneers of brass and saxes in such a band, with their first several
albums (another thread currently) being in that style. But by
1971,then 1974 the 1976,(when "If you Leave Me Now" proved the final
sharkjumping) every song called more and more tame starting with
"Colour My World' (which IS great, and from the1970 "Ballet for a Girl

What I meant was the JA became the sole property of Grace Slick at
least musically.
Jorma did do some great work on "After Bathing at Baxters" Their
version of Wooden Ships is tremendous

Oh yeah - i was thinking Surrealistic Pillow as the JA debute album.
But you are right - there was Jefferson Airplane takes Off (a totally
forgettable album).
SP was a great album - but after that - I hold by my original point -
they had just a few solid tracks (mostly on Bathing at Baxters) after
SP. As for JS - it crashed and burned.

But then that leaves me suspicious, since those would be the only two
songs that get much airplay all these decades later, and only a handful
of other of their songs would have gotten some airplay back then.

Since the only two songs you like happen to be the ones you would have
heard without seeking them out, that really sounds a lot like you've
been influenced by the selectivity of airplay.

That's the general impression I'm getting from this thread. People
who come to albums after hearing hits may come with a different impression
than people who listened to the albums first. Or of course, some may
not find much in the hits, even if they like them, so they aren't inclined
to devote much attention to the rest of the material.

I can't say I'm all that different. I only have one Beatles album, and
it's a collection. I'm not inclined to spend money on buying their
albums, in part because they have gotten so much airplay. Yet, I realize
the experience is not the same as getting the albums when they were fresh
and the songs were new, and listening to the album simply because
it was "the latest Beatles album", and listening because it was a Beatles
album, and then evaluating the album on that listening. Some songs I've
only heard on the radio, I want them on CD (or earlier, records), but I
have little interest in pursuing those bands beyond their "greatest hits".

But I have lots of albums by lots of artists that won't even land on
the list, and far more people would have heard their hits if that much,
and I like the albums. But, I got them relatively early on, before
things were too colored by repeated airplay of some of the albums.

Some, like Phil Ochs, I never knowingly heard on radio before I bought
that first album. Yet I basically have all of his albums, certainly all
that were released in his lifetime, and pretty much all of them I can
listen to from start to finish without wanting to skip over some songs.
Now, maybe I was lucky, or maybe I never had any outside influence to
pre-define "what is good" so I listened without any bias.

As for Jefferson Airplane, I have most of their albums, and while I
don't find the same level of interest over all the songs, I would never
select "White Rabbit" or "Someone to Love" as their most interesting songs,
if for no other reason than that they've been way overplayed on radio. Now,
obviously they would rate high if I never heard any other of their songs,
but gee, "Friends" went out with "Embryonic Journey" and it was one of
the most wonderful things to hear.

And there are many other entries in that original list that seem to
be stacked this same way. Maybe the poster has listened to all those
albums by all those artists and actually has evaluated them, though I
doubt it since if he didn't really like the first one, why bother with
a second? But maybe he really is just basing his rating on what he's
heard on the radio, and then extending that to the albums.

I can very much picture people naming specific songs as being the
best of the groups on that list, but I would hope that the specific
song would not be skewed towards those that just happened to be the
ones so often heard on the radio.

You don't even know 90% of the groups on the list because you haven't bought
a compilation that happened to contain one of their songs. Some that made
the list were during your glorious disco craze or immediately after and
served as a backlash to that dreadful period in music history.

I can't say I don't like LZ. However, groups must learn to change their
sound, to keep up with the pace of change. Look at Chicago, they did. If
they continued their hard rock sound, rather than change it to Pop
sound, they would have died and early death. Same with Hall & Oates.

Oh, yeah, I can see them now, jumping around on on the dance floor to
"Psycho Killer" :-)

Look at Jefferson Airplane. If it weren't for their drug hallucinogen
tainted lyrics, no one would have liked them.

Grinner, undoubtedly you don't know who you're dealing with. He's the
resident expert of r.m.r-p-r+b.1960's who gains his knowledge from buying
compilations from the bargain bins. Uni doesn't own any Led Zeppelin albums
and has probably only heard 2 or 3 of their songs, tops. He's probably
heard Stairway to Heaven, perhaps Whole Lotta Love, and just maybe D'yer
Maker (but probably doesn't know that's the name of the song).

Can't say I'm thrilled with their later (after Atlantic Records)

I liked some of their songs. But Garcia's solo "Sugaree"(s?) was tops,
in my book! But notice The Grateful Dead had to change their sound, to
get back on the charts, with "A Touch Of Grey". When was that, mid
'80's? Even had the gray vinyl 45, with a sleeve that folded out to a
poster! Pretty cool!

Yeah, no argument. I'm no BB fan.

Ummm, no. I'm not a big Dead fan, either -- it's just not my sound --
but they
turned out one excellent album after another.

First, the term is "sacred cow."

Second, at the time, the Dave Clark Five and Herman's Hermits looked
every bit as big.

Third ... the '60s were the time when they had most of their hit songs,
but
the '70s were the Kinks' decade for great albums: Sleepwalker, the
Preservation albums, Schoolboys, Destroyer, Lola vs. the Moneygoround
-- great stuff, Egon.

> 05. The Byrds - Supposedly started folk rock, Who gives a fuck! Even

There's some good folk rock out there. This isn't it.

> 06. The Band - yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn! that sums up their entire career

They were a great backing band for Dylan. They wrote two great songs.

> 07. Eagles - easily the most overrated acts ever. Several good songs,
> but albums are average. If someone plays Hotel California again on

I hated the Eagles in the '70s and I hate them now. They represent
everything I hate in slick commercial music.

> 08. Queen - I don't even consider their best album "A Night at the

Then, sir, your are an asshat.

> 09. Clash - London Calling is so freaking long and gets boring

An album of divine experimentation, and Sandinista! is even better.

> 10. Nirvana - Nevermind is a classic (though overrated). Other albums

A classic what? I had a classic BM the other morning. I enjoyed it
more than I ever have enjoyed Nirvana.

> 11. Velvet Underground - Except their debut album, the rest of the
> albums are just average.

Some bands are great for their singles. Some bands are great for
their albums. Some bands are great for their concerts.

The VU are none of the above. They were great for what they inspired.
Someone once said, "Only 800 people bought the first VU album, but
every one of them started a band."

> 12. The Allman Brothers Band - good live band that produced crap studio

I think you're too generous here. A good set of players who desparately
needed a songwriter.

> 13. R.E.M. - Nowadays critics consider all their 80 and early 90s

What critics would these be?

> 14. U2 - Joshua Tree is great... well half of it

Joshua Tree is when they got boring. Boy, War -- those are great
albums.

> 15. Police - none of their albums were really classics. Many good songs
> but not consistent in their albums

Synchronicity is one of the finest albums of its decade.

> 16. Talking Heads - another critic favorite. Too many boring songs and
> a singer who couldnt sing at all

Byrne had a peculiar voice, to be sure. Still does. But they didn't
produce
a single clunker album until "Naked."

> 17. Aerosmith - Greatest average band of all time?

No. Averagest great band of all time. Many great songs. No great
albums, not even "Toys."

> 18. CCR - good singles band, but most of their albums are not
> consistent at all

True.

> 19. Santana - overrated in "Spanish"

But pretty good in "English."

> 20. Jefferson Airplane - boring and very few good songs too

Perhaps you need to hear some of their songs. "Volunteers," "Lather,"
their cover of "Wooden Ships," the entire "Baxters" album, the entire
"30 Seconds" album...

> 21. Chicago - The first album was merely good, the rest pure shit

Their first albums was very good. They got better through #5. #6 was
mediocre, but #7 was freakin brilliant except for the damn Cetera
ballad. After that ... well, sometimes I suspect Kath killed himself
so he wouldn't have to go on playing the crap on those albums.

> 22. Crosby Still Nash Young - Made tons of overrated albums

They didn't make tons of albums. Two? Three? Something like
that. And ... yep, they're overrated. Four pretty good musicians
singing pretty good songs.

> 23. Steely Dan - another of those slick bands (like The Eagles) which
> produced tons of boring albums.

Steely Dan is one of those bands, like the Dead, I really respect
but just can't get into.

> 24. King Crimson - Apart from the debut album and Red, most of their

Boring? Son, you and me and this Louisville Slugger (note the
cleverly placed spike) have got to have us a little talk....

> 25. Pearl Jam - apart from Ten (which wasn't that great either) most of

Pearl Jam are unfit to wipe Nirvana's butts. And you've seen how
much I love Nirvana.

Not sure, G', they may have been. Just thankful for the UK Northern Soul
craze. I see labels, such as Sony, Universal and BMG marketing CDs,
exclusively to the UK, because there is a demand there, but there isn't
here, in the US!

Remember buying, I think, a (2) LP set of The Doors greatest. Assumed it

Actually Steve the Chicago Records thing was a very shortlived venture
in the late 90s.Their remastered back catalog, up to Chicago 17 plus
several compilations as well as their most recent new release, XXX,
have been released on Rhino, with whom they signed a distribution deal
in 2003. And they are getting ready for their 40th summer on the
road. Their 40th anniversary is the middle of February. They had a
very successful tour with Earth Wind and Fire in 2004-2005.

"Jefferson Airplane Takes Off" is their best album of songs, though
hobbled by weak production. The classic album is "Bathing At Baxter's."
"Surrealistic Pillow" has not aged well; it has production problems
different from "Takes Off."
