What began as a list of all the Hot 100 hits that made Billboard's
charts from 1970-'79 has been expanded over the years to include Top
40 LP info and now country chart info. My big picture is a site that
is a comprehensive list of the most popular music in America from the
1970s I can build. I've been adding that from time to time as I've
taken breaks from working on my weekly blog entries.
As of today, all country artists from A-G have been added and the
letter H is represented through Merle Haggard. That puts me about a
third of the way through the entire list. More artists are added as I
get them written out, so feel free to check back if you'd like to
follow the progress.
As time goes on, I'll be adding R&B info as well as adult contemporary/
easy listening chart info. Eventually, I may also add the Top 200 LPs
rather than merely the Top 40 that's on the site now. As this project
involves a great deal of typing, it'll be a while before I get to
where I want to go with the site...but I'll keep on truckin' until I
reach that point.
As a one-time soul music DJ (on college radio), I look forward to your
posting the data from Billboard's R&B chart!
It's a great site Chris, I appreciate all the hard work you are putting in.
I bought a best of from looking at your web site yesterday - Crystal
Gayle gained a sale! I'd forgotten all about her until I saw your list
of US Country number ones.
Cheers Chris!
Awesome! I don't get a lot of sales through my site...I usually get
something like a $10 gift certificate from Amazon about once a year.
Those proceeds help pay for the books I pick up that give me the info
to add more stuff, so if anybody wants to make me get started on
adding R&B info, feel free to access Amazon through those links...and
I'll be well on my way to getting that book added to my reference
shelf.
So thanks for the help, Robbie. It is truly appreciated. And thanks
for reminding me that I need to go back to the #1 country list and add
links to those artists I've recently added to my site.

I haven't bought any cds by her in a few years and the ones I have are
probably old editions that aren't in print anymore. She had hits on 3
different labels, UA, Columbia, and WB, and there didn't seem to be
one disk that covered everything. Also, she had a few songs that were
just minor hits or didn't chart at all that were just as good as the
biggest hit. She sang a big hit with Eddie Rabbitt called "You and
I', and it's not on any of the disks her, but it's really an ER hit
more than a Crystal hit, and it wasn't that great anyway. Also, did
she have a song that had the lyrics "you never gave up on me when I
was givin' right up on you" ?
Here's the listing of the 3 cds I have by her - there's a lot of
duplication, and a some minor hits that are worth having- and all
three are missing "Sound Of Goodbye", which was another good minor
hit.

however, according to the comments, it left out "The Blue Side", and
has a remake of "When I Dream" - I haven't listened to those songs -
it has most of her minor hits, and it even has "You Never Gave Up On
Me", which I had mentioned before. So it seems like a pretty good set
to get.

This was the one I bought:
She sang the sort of music I should really hate but I just love her
voice and yes, she was a beauty! I was only 13 when Don't It Make My
Brown Eyes Blue was in the charts and I thought she was gorgeous. My
favourite by her is Talking In Your Sleep, I absolutely adore it.
That's the one I bought! I see it's only $8.99 at amazon.com, I paid GBP
9.28 at amazon.co.uk which is about $15 but as it's Christmas I don't
mind paying the extra!
