As might be expected the Beatles debut Parlophone single meant nothing
at all to me this week in 1962 when it was listed in the music press.
It still meant little to me a little later when I heard it on radio
except to notice the seemingly "Hey Baby!"-inspired harmonica pattern
on an otherwise tediously dull number. The record became a minor hit
but hardly sparked the full scale Beatlemania that ballooned with the
advent of their next single---the much better "Please Please Me" that
even I liked.
Anyway a whole batch of new Parlophone singles appeared this same
week.Only one of them caused any great excitement to me.
Here they are :-
4948 JOHNNY ANGEL Better Luck Next Time
The Power Of You
4949 THE BEATLES Love Me Do
P.S I Love You
4950 NICKY HILTON Your Nose Is Gonna Grow
You Might Have Love
4951 SHANE FENTON & THE You're Telling Me
FENTONES Too Young For Sad Memories
4952 JAMES BROWN & THE Shout And Shimmy
FAMOUS FLAMES Come Over Here
Yes,at last the James Brown single (released as long ago as July in
the USA) that had been wowing them at the Scene Club in London for the
past two months or so was released here. Hoorah!!! (By this time of
course Brown was already in the US chart with a new release "Mashed
Potatoes USA")

I waited a couple of weeks for "Dr No" to arrive at my local theatre
in East London and was knocked out by Connery's portrayal when I saw
it. Great theme tune by John Barry too. Yes,better Bond pics came
along later but for me Connery WAS the definitive Bond and on seeing
him in "Dr No" I knew that his many years of below the bill supporting
roles were over and guessed that a new movie superstar was being born
here. I wasn't far wrong
