I have decided to grade the ROLLING STONES RECORD ALBUM COVERS (not the

music, just the covers)
Why? i have no idea. it seemed like a good idea at the time....and i
have too much time on my hands.

ALBUMS:

1964 Englands Newest Hit Makers ABKO

The unruly schoolboy look. B+

1964 12 X 5 ABKCO

OK. B

1965 The Rolling Stones, Now! ABKCO

Shots of the boys in the studio. Nothing special. B-

1965 Out of Our Heads ABKCO

The first great cover. Love the look. A-

1965 December's Children (And Everybody's) ABKCO

One of the best. Great B&W pic, Pefectly framed. A+

1966 Aftermath ABKCO

The great mid-60's out of focus look. (ie Blonde on Blonde) B+

1966 Got Live If You Want It! ABKCO

Never liked it much C+

1967 Between the Buttons [US] ABKCO

Again with the out of focus, this one is fantastic. Looking bleary and
cold in the rain. I hung this on my wall for a year. A+

1967 Flowers ABKCO

Very poppy 1960's B+

1967 Their Satanic Majesties Request ABKCO

The boys look silly in their magician outfits but i like this due to
the fact it originally came out in 3-D, that version gets an A, the
non-3-D gets a B

1968 Beggars Banquet ABKCO

The toilet cover gets an A, the white version B

1969 Let It Bleed ABKCO

Their best album but the cover is only a B

1970 Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! [live] ABKCO

Love it! Giving Charlie the cover is genius and I especially like the
homage to Bob Dylan A+

1996 The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus [live] ABKCO

Nice, B+

1972 Jamming with Edward Rolling Stones

Ehhhh C+

1971 Sticky Fingers Virgin

How can you not love it A+

1972 Exile on Main St. Virgin

Kind of freaks me out, why is Mick so happy? B+

1974 It's Only Rock 'N Roll Virgin

Never liked the painting too much B-

1976 Black and Blue Virgin

They look like the aging punks they were B++

1977 Love You Live Virgin

Warhol again, Another one that freaked me out when I was a kid...why is

Mick biting a hand? B++

1978 Some Girls Virgin

The original version (with Marilyn, et al) gets A-/other version B

1980 Emotional Rescue Virgin

Always hated the X-ray thing. D

1981 Tattoo You Virgin

Never cared for this... D++

1982 Still Life [live] Virgin

Average B-

1983 Undercover Virgin

I like this one, it suits the music and is creepy to good effect B++

1986 Dirty Work Virgin

Too day-glo for my tastes C

1989 Steel Wheels Virgin

Boring C-

1991 Flashpoint [live] Virgin

The worst...put SOME effort into this F

1994 Voodoo Lounge Virgin

Hate it F

1995 Stripped [live] Virgin

Nice B

1997 Bridges to Babylon Virgin

Don't like it C

1998 No Security [live] Virgin

B

2004 Live Licks

OK, I love the cheesecake factor and would give it an A but why is the
US version "sanitized" with a bikini top and the UK version (and im
assuming the rest of the world)
gets the actual nude girl, what are we...Mormons? It's a album cover!
UK version gets an A/US version a F as a protest

COMPILATIONS:

1966 Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) ABKCO

They look totally out of place and i like it. A

B++

1972 More Hot Rocks (Big Hits and Fazed Cookies) ABKCO

B

1975 Made in the Shade Rolling Stones

B+

1975 Metamorphosis ABKCO

Not as bad as the album, but still D+++

1981 Sucking in the 70's Rolling Stones

C

2002 Forty Licks Virgin

D (OK, we get it, it's their logo, move on)

I once found a box of LPs in the basement of my apartment building that
someone was throwing out, and it included about 15 of the Stones'
albums from the 60s and 70s...but for some reason, they were all in
plain white cardboard sleeves with the songs hand-written on them. I
grabbed the box, and so I grew up having to appreciate the Stones
without the cover artwork.

It was a deprived childhood, but it made me tough.

One thing's for certain, you don't have originals. Their early stuff was
released on London. Starting in 1971 with "Sticky Fingers" they were on their
own label "Rolling Stones Records", distributed by Atlantic.

Do they get extra credit for the hidden pictures of John, Paul, George, and
Ringo?

Which "Sticky Fingers" cover are you refering to, the original cover with
the bloody fingers and the can, or the censored cover with the zipper on the
jeans?

I love the original cover myself.
