Perhaps the most famous calypso song---and almost certainly the most
remembered today---is recorded this day in the RCA Victor studios.
Revamping Edric Connor's 1954 UK recorded "Day De Light",New York
City's own Harry Belafonte records the song first known simply as
"Day-O" when it subsequently appears on his massive selling 1956 LP
"Calypso" .However in December 1956 when RCA finally succumb to
public pressure and release the song as a single the title is changed
to to the more familiar "Banana Boat (Day-O)"
Meanwhile in Cleveland at Brooklyn High School auditorium,the rising
young star Elvis Presley plays a concert on the same bill as the much
more famous Bill Haley & His Comets
