I hate that fucking Murmaids record, but I like Bread, really like
their uptempo "Let Your Love Go" in '70, where it got a great slot in
between two soul classics:

In addition to the Murmaids' big hit Gates also produced
quite a few other singles with girl groups and female vocalists.
Some of these were obviously influenced by Phil Spector's
Wall of Sound productions, and many of them are rated highly
by the fans of the genre:
- Girlfriends: My And Only, Jimmy Boy (Colpix)
(A minor hit in 1963.)
- Dorothy Berry: You're So Fine / Cryin' On My Pillow (Challenge)
(A Wall of Sound version of the Falcons's hit with
a Gates-penned flip side that's also very good.)
- Merry Clayton: Usher Boy (Capitol)
(Clayton also had the original version of "It's In His Kiss".)

"Retrospective" cd. James had several singles on Reprise and Imperial in
the 60's, and one album, "Summer Holiday", before joining Bread. In
later years he was part of Black Tie Billy Swan and Randy Meisner (they
briefly made the country charts with a remake of Buddy Holly's "Learning
the Game") and the country pop group the Remingtons.

Or a pound a month, which was the rate at which I gained so damned
much weight in the first place. (It took a decade for me to balloon to
300 pounds in 2004.) So I'd say I'm pretty much on schedule in the
weight-loss department.
