One of the lesser Sun artists did version of Mystery Train etc

EVENTS OF THE DAY

NOVEMBER 9 1952

The Delta Rhythm Boys sing "Dem Bones" on Ed Sullivan's "Toast Of The
Town" show

NOVEMBER 9 1955

The Everly Brothers undertake their very first recording session this
day.Backed by Carl Smith's group they record four numbers for Columbia
at the Old Tulane Hotel in Nashville. The songs are "The Sun Keeps
Shining","Keep A-Lovin' Me","If Her Love Is'nt True" and "That's The
Life I Have To Live".The single that Columbia issue from this session
(the first two songs back to back) sells so badly that the label
passes on issuing the remaining tracks and terminates the boys'
contract

Screamin' Jay Hawkins has his only session for Grand Records. At
Reco-Art Studios in Philadelphia he records five titles---"I Is"/"Take
Me Back" (released as a Grand single in 1956) plus "$10,000 Lincoln
Continental","Pauline" and a first attempt at "I Put A Spell On You".
The latter three titles will first appear on the CD "From Grand And
Gotham" in 1991

Elsewhere this day Harry Belafonte records "Jamaica Farewell" and
"Come Back Liza" for RCA which completes the "Calypso" LP that RCA is
readying

On the C&W chart the name of George Jones appears for the very first
time as "Why Baby Why" debuts on the chart

NOVEMBER 9 1956

Buddy Holly begins first tour opening for a country extravaganza that
features Hank Thompson,George Jones,Cowboy Copas and Hank Locklin

NOVEMBER 9 1959

On the US album chart Johnny Mathis begins a five week run at #1 with
'Heavenly'

In the C&W chart Faron Young reaches #1 with "Country Girl"

NOVEMBER 9 1960

In Chicago,Dee Clark records his next single "Your Friends"/"Because I
Love You" for release on Vee-Jay

Duane Eddy plays "Peter Gunn" on "American Bandstand". Joni James also
appears

NOVEMBER 9 1961

Brian Epstein sees The Beatles for the first time on stage at the
Cavern in Liverpool

NOVEMBER 9 1962

The Miracles record "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" for Tamla in
Detroit

Aretha Franklin headlines the Regal Theater in Chicago

Dion sings "Love Came To Me" on "American Bandstand"

NOVEMBER 9 1963

The Impressions' "It's All Right" takes the R&B top spot this day
replacing Little Johnny Taylor and "Part Time Love" at #1

Gene Pitney sings "Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa" on "American
Bandstand". Sunny & The Sunglows sing "Talk To Me"
