Here's how I voted :-
> Hank Snow - I'm Movin' On - RCA 48-0328
>***** Nat "King" Cole - Mona Lisa - Capitol 1010
This can only go one way for me right?
The Hank Snow record is fine but.....there's a group of country
records from 1950 (led by the two entries in the Consolation bout
below) that I like considerably better than "I'm Movin' On".
Whereas in the pop field Nat Cole has this year all to himself.
NOTHING in the genre comes remotely near "Mona Lisa" in my opinion.
And my opinion says that in a head-to-head of these two records
choosing which one to vote for requires not a seconds thought.
It's obvious
And consequently Cole gets the easiest vote I ever cast in this entire
contest
>***** Hank Williams - Long Gone Lonesome Blues - M-G-M 10645
> Hank Williams - Moanin' The Blues - M-G-M 10832
OTOH this fine pair of classic Hank Williams sides are much closer in
quality for me. Only a whisker seperates them---and that whisker comes
down on the side of "Long Gone Lonesome Blues".
And lastly I get to make my final prediction of this contest---and one
I think I'm fairly sure of winnning for a change :)
I predict that Hank Williams will comfortably win this consolation
bout!
You heard it here first,folks!

Wow, this has been a strange contest. But I'm voting for two records I
love.
Thanks Marc and Raj for all your hard work.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good weekend!

Abstentions:
Hank Snow - I'm Movin' On - RCA 48-0328
Nat "King" Cole - Mona Lisa - Capitol 1010
Can't vote for either of these things as the best record of any year.
They are just two pretty good records that are certainly nothing
special, If I never heard either of them again I would not really
notice or care. I have never in my life intentionally listened to
either song on my own accord. The only way I hear them now is if I
randomly load every half way decent record from 1950 into a playlist.

No contest, really. I'm surprised Snow made it this far (several r&b
records I like much more are long gone) and against Nat's sublime pop
masterpiece he's an afterthought.
***** Hank Williams - Long Gone Lonesome Blues - M-G-M 10645
Hank Williams - Moanin' The Blues - M-G-M 10832
LGLB is a slightly better song--it has a slightly catchier melody--so
it gets my vote, but since I had voted against both of these for a
couple of rounds, I'm not really enthusiastic.
This contest turned out to be unusually interesting and revealing. Made
me think that eventually we ought to do the later 40s--maybe just one
contest for the years 1945-49.
Many thanks to Roger, Marc and Rick.

But certainly you have to like one better than the other.

This was a tad easier.

This has been real cool for me doing 1950 as I was born that year. At
the start of the contest I wasn't familiar with probably 2/3 of the
songs.
Yeah, but I'm not interested enough in either record to take the time
to determine that. I wouldn't want my one vote to decide anything
either.
Hank Snow - I'm Movin' On - RCA 48-0328
***** Nat "King" Cole - Mona Lisa - Capitol 1010

I thought this was an interesting contest and like the idea of extending Group
contest coverage to the Late Forties.

What's the difference between Santa Claus and Tiger Woods?
Santa Claus stops at three ho's!
(This doesn't work when you factor in Muddy Waters.)

NOT for the Idiot Eleven which is now reduced back to the Idiot Six or
Seven. THEY are still out of touch from reality, failing to grant Cole's
Mona Lisa its RIGHTFUL place at the top of the heap.

I have already wished the Group members Happy Holidays in a couple of
previous postings in other Threads, but I do so again for anyone who
missed the earlier wishes.
What the hell's going on here?
The deadline is not for about 21 hours yet, why are you voting so
early?
