ABOUT CAPE FEST '04:

The theme of CAPE FEST WORLD MUSIC Festival 2004 is a Celebration of 10
Years of Democracy in South Africa. With Cape Fest 2004 we honour our
leaders who dedicated their lives to bring freedom to our people. We chose
the line-up because of the social message which inspired our leaders in the
struggle against apartheid. Whether in exile in a foreign continent or
fighting for freedom in Mother Africa, artists like Peter Tosh and Bob
Marley motivated our leaders and our people with a message of revolution,
human dignity and one love!

A marketing analysis revealed the need for a music festival to represent
South Africa internationally. We have a massive following of Reggae music
from various communities. Cape Town, South Africa will host CAPE FEST WORLD
MUSIC Festival, a five day musical celebration from 9 to 13th January 2004.
With Table Mountain as a backdrop, a meeting place of the Atlantic and
Indian Oceans, the coastline of Mnandi resort will be the venue for an
atmosphere that can only be experienced in Cape Town.

Cape Fest is destined to become an annual event and the biggest festival in
Africa. Endorsed by the Western Cape Tourism Board and the Cape Town
Unicity, Cape Fest will be broadcast on radio and television to national and
international audiences.

With thirty six top South African and International bands Cape Fest brings a
message of value to an audience form all over the world. Twenty African
bands will come from different genres, including, Reggae, Hip-Hop and
Kwaito.

The objectives of Cape Fest are similar to those of our president Thabo
Mbeki's "African Renaissance", to Unite Africa. We will unite Africa through
our inheritance, our music and sharing the celebration of our ten years of
democracy,

In the new South Africa we have eleven official languages. Similarly Cape
Fest embraces all our diverse cultures at one massive event!
. Traditional menus and cultural cuisine local food stalls will provide
nutrition and new experiences for our audience and performers. Vegetarian
and organically grown fresh food will be available.
. A trade fair where South Africans can showcase & sell products to local
and international markets.
. A market will draw attention to the wealth of art, entertainment and craft
in Africa.
. Exhibitions and performances of local fashion, drama and music are sure to
make this a mind-blowing happening!
. A fun-fair with special childcare facilities will allow parents to party
while kids are entertained.

An important focus of the show will be the promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness.
The HIV-infected person has been subjected to horrendous discrimination
which is unacceptable. Cape Town has not yet provided an original cultural
approach to the issue of HIV/AIDS. Cape Fest 2004 aims at implementing new
approaches. With a percentage of all ticket sales we plan to set up a safe
house and support existing safe houses which assist children from the Cape
Flats who are dealing with the crisis of AIDS and rape to come to terms with
their ordeal. Through the exposure to a diversity of international culture
and creativity we aim to encourage new solutions and thinking in the minds
of the youth.

An events schedule like this is sure to attract a large and varied audience.
Hosting a festival of this magnitude, South Africa is once again leading the
way, with Cape Town at the fore-front.
