Bunny Wailer's Solomonic label icon has the picture of the star of
David with the lion in the center and two eyes on the corners. Does
anyone know what the significance of the two eyes are? What is it
supposed to represent? Is it of Rasta origin?

Yes, InI feel quite sure of what those eyes represent.

However In preface to InI's answer let I say this - that it is
very important for those who are interested in Rastafari,
and even those who already believe in Rastafari, to seek
and obtain the original and official lion image that is found
on the pre-August 1974 Ethiopian flag. This is so that one
may know of what lion image was adored by Haile Selassie I
H.I.M.self, the whole of Ethiopia and the world. Concerning
reggae music - while InI do appreciate those who do use a
lion image in their business logo and otherwise, there is a
deep and abiding concern from InI over what has been done
to the lion image, that which is different from the official
Ethiopian lion image. In this respect let InI call attention to
RAS Records and R.A.W., for they do use a lion image that
has no attributes that associate it with Jah faith, and is not
the lion of Ethiopia and His Majesty. The original lion image
that is found on the flag, the official image, has a lion that is
carrying a long cross (crucifix) staff, in which a Ethiopian
tri-color flag is attached, thus two flags on one flag. Also, upon
the lion's head is a crown that also has a prominent cross
(crucifix) upon the top. In relation to RAS and R.A.W., etc.
who have chosen a lion without the crosses, in both locations -
thereby they have in reality emasculated the lion, to make it a
heathen lion, a counterfeit lion. InI shall not accuse RAS or
R.A.W. of what InI am about to say, so let it fit those who it
does apply to - - In scripture, Jah is a lion, however Satan is
a ravaging lion, and Satan who also comes represented by
a lion is looking for whom to devour. Would Satan's lion image
then also be devoid of the Christian crucifix staff and crown
with a cross ? Yes of course. When one is familiarized with
the original pre-August 1974 lion flag and the pre-eminence of
Christianity in Ethiopia, and the reason why the crosses were
placed there, then certainly Idrens like I will take notice and
certainly have difficulties with the decisions by others to change
what was once a Christian lion into something SECULAR and
objectionable to not only I but other Rastafarians of similar
conciousness and overstanding. InI personally am very
concerned over what InI have just stated, and always watchful
of secular, heathen lions in the scene. With the elimination of
Jah lion from the Ethiopian flag in 1974, InI am very steadfast in
the protection of an image such as that. InI can only hope that
you and others will now be aware of what has happened and
what is presently going on, in regards to the: Lion of Judah.

Concerning the eyes that are found on Bunny Wailer's
Solomonic label. If one is to seek the original lion image
then one will see the resemblace of the eyes to one another.
InI truly believe that Bunny's Solomonic label eyes represent
the eyes of a lion, ever-watchful, attentive - and full of fire, as
the scriptures would also state.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe there's a true Rastafarian anywhere
in the world who has similar consciousness and overstanding as you.

Molluscs maybe, but not people ... definitely not truly religious
people.

There's no room for your paranoia, vile spitefulness and pure hate in
the mind of a believer.

while im sure my enoch would not include me in the group he names as
"rastafarians of similar conciousness (sic?) and overstanding", i too
am on the lookout and ready to reveal those who bastardize the lion
of judah image. i do not see so much of a travesty in the logos of
raw and ras, but i often see a british lion used to represent H.I.M.
and the ethiopian/rastafarian image and often try to reason with the
brethren who use this image. i see this particular image as an example
of ignorance on the part of the user,, who often defends it as "art"
or something similar and suggests to me that a lion is a lion is a lion,
and they are more "creative" than to simply pull the lion from
HIM flag and use it. i say: if youre going to represent rastafari, then
do so with the proper symbols, and especially DONT do it with the symbol
of the colonizer!

note: rasta4I means rasta for I...not rastafari. is rastafari for I, seen?

Nice thing you write about the Lions. I have never seen
it like that before, but indeed, the crown and the
cross is a crucial aspect.

this seems strange to me... i have long been under the impression that
the cross image was not emabraced by rastas....that it sort of
symbolizes the dead, whereas rasta looks at the living..like mikey dread
says:

i art a natty dread and you are a baldhead
i praise the living, and you praise the dead

and prince alla sings a tune (cannot remember it now - but is off of the
blood and fire release) about how a youth gets wise and tears down the
cross off his wall....i'm sure there are many more...not trying to cause
trouble, just curious...

comments?

forward.....kevin

As Selassie was a convinced christian for him this
cross was a symbol of liberty and redemption, the crown
on the Head of the Lion of Judah symbolizes His reign.
What makes you think the cross is a symbol of the dead,
where you can't even see One on the cross suffering. No
the cross is empty and the grave is empty. Life!

I got an album from them last year, they are from around San
Francisco. I think they are world/reggae/hip-hop, I will check the
liner notes tonight.
