Ruff Cutt: DJ Bonanza is TABOU1's latest release (TB1CD14)

Ruff Cutt was created 15 years ago by ace musicians and producers Tony
Philips, Jazzwad, Carlton "Bubblers" Ogilvie, Eric "Fish" Brown. As
individuals, they have worked with such artists as Maxi Priest, Aswad,
Gregory Isaacs, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Israel Vibration...

Operating out of their London studio or in Jamaica, they have worked
with virtually every major reggae artist from Jamaica and the UK, either
as a backing band on tour and in the studio or as producers. Major
artists produced by the Ruff Cutt include Michael Rose, Gregory Isaacs,
Red Rat, Goofy, Starkey Banton, Chukki Starr.

In 1998, Tony Philips and TABOU1 management met and decided to produce
the Ruff Cutt's very first album. Until then, the Ruff Cutt label had
released singles aimed at the Caribbean communities in the United
Kingdom and the United States. Those top quality singles were consistent
sellers and were always on top of the Reggae charts.

When the news hit the streets that the Ruff Cutt had decided to do a
Dancehall album, Dj's from Kingston and London lined up to be featured
in it. Each track was produced exclusively for the album, giving it a
unity that many compilations often lack.

Artists featured include the best of Jamaica and the United Kingdom: Red
Rat and Goofy with Phoebe, who currently rule the Dancehall scene in
Jamaica, while the UK is represented by the likes of Starkey Banton,
General Levy, Chukki Starr, Governor Tiggy.

Studios used are the Ruff Cutt studio in the United Kingdom and the Main
Street Studio in Jamaica. Main Street is operated by Danny Browne
(Buccaneer, Red Rat, Goofy, Lady Saw)…

Riddims are prepared by Bubblers, Tony Philips, as well as Jamaican ace
producers Jazzwad and Danny Browne. They range from the hugely popular
hardcore style to rap. Note the innovative use of Bob Marley's "Heathen"
in 2 cuts. Lyrics are often deeply conscious.

All in all, DJ BONANZA is a top quality dancehall album that should
please many as it meets the younger publics appetite for heavy ragga/rap
dancehall.

There are 2: one was drumming for the Morwells and now lives in the US,
the other works with the Ruff Cutt band.

"Trailerload" band in '91 was also called "Ruff Cutt", I wonder was any o
dem....???

Exactly. He was the original drummer of creation rebel, wasn't he? I think he even played on that
masterpiece 'cry tuff dub encounter ch. 1'.
