BACKGROUND
"Tropical Steve" Buggie developed his interests in reggae and
African music while teaching psychology at the University of Zambia
(1977-80) and the University of Malawi (1980-89). His African college
students informed him about all aspects of reggae music. His reggae
collection grew eventually to over 200 albums, which he distributed to
Malawians when he made his final trip out of Africa (1989).
Affiliations are with the African Studies Association, the Association
of Third World Studies, and Reggae Ambassadors Worldwide. The weekly
two-hour KGLP-FM (91.7 MHz) radio show, TROPICAL REGGAE, began in
January 1996 and it remains the only reggae radio broadcast in western
New Mexico.
