Check out Ronnie Davis and Idren's "Come Straight" cd on Nighthawk (1996).
Ronnie Davis carries the Itals formula to his new group. The cd has some
really good songs!

he definately had some nice tracks with the R Radics.
easy,

I've read this post with great interest. My selections are
Earl Lowe (Little Roy)
Rod Taylor
Barry Brown
Lacksley Castell
Earl Cunningham
Earl Zero
Wayne Wade
and atleast 20 different toasters that I can think of. But defintely the most
underrated roots singer has to be Little Roy. Sanjay
another singer i think is particularly underrated is michael palmer, from
back in the early 80s. anyone know what hes up to these days? i think
i may have heard that he passed but im not sure about that. i just know
that i thought he had a great understated voice and some nice lyrics.
Even Christafari? :-)

Robert, I never heard them but I recall less than complimentary posts
about them a while back. They are completely unknown and unheard of
here in the UK.
As you can appreciate, my answer was basically saying that Reggae
music as a whole is underrated....

I am in full agreement--Christafari is very underrated.
I don't agree with many things Mark Mohr says or does, but I think
he is a very talented songwriter/performer, and there are quite
a few first-rate songs on their albums which will stand the
test of time. This has nothing to do with "race," religion,
or ideology, IMHO.
By the way, the spin-off from Christafari, Temple Yard,
has a very nice single out, a remake of "Lion of Judah"
which updates this classic.

I started this as more of an inside joke than anything. But now that we're on
the subject: most reggae followers don't divorce the message from the music.
And in Christafari's instance they have given interviews of some really
egregious culturally imperialist and patronizing views of Jamaican society
and the usurpation of Rastafari in a non-Rastafarian missionary endeavor. For
that, this band and/or Mark Mohr gets nothing but the hairy eyeball from me.
