The lineup for NEARfest 2003 consists of:
CAMEL (International)- This beloved and legendary progressive band is both
celebrating their 31st anniversary as a group, and holding their farewell
tour as a live act. Depending on the scheduling of the farewell world tour,
Camel's headline performance at NEARfest 2003 could be their last-ever live
performance. (5th band Sunday) www.camelproductions.com
MAGMA (France)- This adventurous and legendary Zeuhl fusion group will be
performing the USA debut of new music with an expanded lineup. The world's
most famous avant-progressive group will headline the Saturday half of the
festival. (5th band Saturday) www.seventhrecords.com
THE FLOWER KINGS (Sweden) - Popular modern melodic progressive band with
diverse influences. First major festival gig with the new lineup with a
greater emphasis on instrumental virtuosity. (4th band Saturday)
www.theflowerkings.com
ANGLAGARD (Sweden)- The grand reunion of what is widely considered the best
symphonic progressive band of the 1990s era. Anglagard's music is melodic
and complex, featuring a heavy use of dynamics. (4th band Sunday)
www.anglagard.net
TUNNELS (USA) - Progressive fusion of the highest caliber with Brand X
stalwarts Percy Jones and John Goodsall and the amazing Marc Wagnon on the
MIDI-vibes. (3rd band Saturday) www.buckyballmusic.com
ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT (Finland) - Acoustic klezmer-influenced progressive with
two cellists! Dark at times, fun at times, always interesting and unique.
(2nd band Saturday) www.vasarat.com
GLASS HAMMER (USA) - Uplifting symphonic keyboard-based progressive rock
with spiritual and metaphysical themes. This well-loved band very seldom
plays live, and will be pulling out all the stops for a show to remember.
(2nd band Sunday) www.glasshammer.com
HIGH WHEEL (Germany) - New and edgy symphonic melodic prog rock band with
multi-part harmony vocals, introspective lyrics, and strong instrumental
interplay. (1st band Saturday) www.high-wheel.de
SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM (USA) - King Crimson-influenced avant prog rock
meets performance art on homemade instruments. Visually and sonically
striking and definitely stretching the boundaries of progressive music. (1st

Wow. I gotta say, you guys have _really_ outdone yourselves this time. I
wish I could make it.
So how fast do you guys think tickets will sell out this time? I say 20
minutes.

"Flames are discouraged, except for those which quote famous (or
not-so- famous) Stooge lines. For example, it would be acceptable to
threaten to 'tear out your tonsils' or to 'gouge your eyes out'."
- alt.comedy.slapstick.3-stooges FAQ
20 minutes doesn't give 1,750 people enough time to buy tickets. I say it
will be more like one hour and fifteen minutes eventhough last year it was
about 45 minutes.
What time does the record convention start in the theater?
Mike- It's February. Go relax and put on some advant music.
Peace
Rob
Ha Ha. O.K.
N.P. Porcupine Tree-Metanoia (possibly the closest thing I have to Avant at
the moment- oh wait the I.E.M. disc is weirder)

1) you didn't ask
2) i don't know your tastes, whereas Mike made his tastes & perferences quite
clear to me at ProgDay.
I did?
Well I'd have to find out a little bit more about the band before I decide
if I would like it or not. I still don't really have any R.I.O discs and I'm
not sure if they would be the best place for me to start.
Do this--listen to the RealAudio sample from Polyglot on the Cuneiform
website, "Marimba". You will like it, because it's really good. Then buy
the CD.

lips, sighing and moaning, dripping [REDACTED] on my shirt and
smearing it into my moustache ... But ... If I snuck a lick of your
cone, I wouldn't smack my lips. -- Ted Cohen

what better way than to buy a damn disk? take a chance, will ya??

to start what?
to start an R.I.O collection. I do have some cuneiform samplers though and I
would be lying if I said I dislike everything on them.

I would dispute that slightly, in favor of Zamla Mammaz Manna
_Familiesprickor_. It's close, though. Zamla win because they give
up the funk.

O.K. I'm sure I'll like it.
