Pangea Music International is pleased to officially announce that the
5th
Annual International Progressive Music Festival, "ProgFest ‘99", will be
held
Memorial Day Weekend May 29th & 30th at the Palace of fine Arts Theater
in San
Francisco, California U.S.A. With the festival moving to San Francisco,
Ca.,
this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the greatest progressive
music
events of all time. Building on the theme of our host cities’ diverse
and
eclectic international spirit, we have recruited a stellar lineup of
world
class artists for this year’s festival.
The Lineup: The following artists have all agreed to perform at this
year’s
event. As always with an event of this complexity the final lineup
could
change, but the dates and core lineup is confirmed. The schedule of
events
reads as follows:
Day One- Saturday May 29th
Banco (Italy) Classical progressive
Stern Combo-Meissen (Germany) Euro-symphonic rock
Bondage Fruit (Japan) Tokyo avante-fusion
Day Two- Sunday May 30th
Magma (France) Jazz-space-rock fission
Porcupine Tree (England) British symphonic rock
Buckethead (USA) Freestyle Devastation rock
We are also reserving the option to add a third day should the support
and
response warrant it. Bands under consideration for this include Quidam
(Poland), Gerrard (Japan), After Crying (Hungary), Mastermind (USA) and
Par
Lindh Project (Sweden).
The Venue: The Palace of Fine Arts Theater is a 1,000 seat venue
located in
downtown San Francisco on the Bay facing the Golden Gate Bridge. It is
a
truly spectacular venue with top quality sound and lighting. The
acoustics,
seating and overall ambience compare with the finest concert venues in
America. The venue was built for the 1920 World’s Fair and is situated
in a
lovely park with a lake and is surrounded by impressive Roman styled
arcades
and promenades. (for detailed information visit
www.m...@aol.com/pfatheatre)
Tickets: A few changes will be made from years past. This years event
will
be all reserved seating as the theater is set up to accommodate this
arrangement. We will use a four level pricing system starting with the
front
rows and working back towards general seating. Tickets will range from
$50.00
per day for front row zone seats to $25.00 for general admission. We
have
adjusted our pricing for a variety of reasons including:
1. The cast of this year’s event has risen with the dramatic improvement
in
the overall quality of the production.
2. Many fans have requested reserved seating and expressed a willingness
to
pay more for a better quality production and the convenience of reserved
seats.
3. This is a one of a kind festival and a great bargain by today’s
entertainment events. (A sample of recent ticket prices in the Bay Area
are
Dave Matthews Band at San Jose Arena, capacity 10,000- $37.50-$75.00.
Black
Sabbath $55.00 plus tax for impaired view seating; Black Crowes at the
Maritime Hall $25.00 and The Rolling Stones $125.00 for general
admission,
point made.)
Tickets will go on sale by the end of January and will be available via
our
webpage, toll free direct phone and regular mail. Your seats will be
reserved
and a receipt will be forwarded to you and your tickets will be held at
the
box office. Updated ticket information will be forwarded via the
progressive
music network as soon as we have all the details in place.
Travel: We have arranged for an official travel agent to help with your
travel requirements. Her name is Sharon Johnson and can be contacted
at: tel.
512.338.9577, fax: 512.338.4773 and by email: snj-
seab...@worldnet.att.net
Of course, you can also use your own agent, as most are knowledgeable
about
San Francisco.
Accommodations: This is one of the most challenging points of staging
our
event in the Bay Area. Budget hotels are in short supply thus we have
come up
with a few creative plans.
1. Pension & hostels: San Francisco does have three of the better
hostels in
California. We have booked approximately 100 beds for use by out of
town
fans. These are communal rooms with bunk beds holding from 4-16
people. They
are clean, well located and cheap. The cost is $20.00 per night per
person.
This is a great option for people who enjoy meeting with friends in a
communal
environment. Reserve your beds quickly as they will go fast. Priority
will
be given to out of town visitors.
2. Budget Hotel: There will be a limited variety of hotels available for
this
weekend. More information about these options can be found via our
webpage:
www.pangeamusic.com and or call toll free 1.800.PANGEA1
Summary: We at Pangea Music International are striving to produce one
of the
best music festivals in America. There are amazing challenges to deal
with in
producing an event of this scope. We can not do it without your
support.
Please do whatever you can to publicize this event. Buy your tickets
and make
your reservations early so we can better gauge the number of bands and
size of
production. This festival is as much yours as ours, and your support is
essential. We still have copies of ProgFest ’97 CDs and videos for
sale.
These have received rave reviews from around the world and purchasing
them is
a great way to show your support for the cause.
