Van Der Graaf Generator: 'Still Life'.

'Oh, woe is me', 'Why am I here', 'I piss against the wind in vain',
'I am but a pawn in the grand scheme of things', 'my dick isnt big
enough'.
If such thoughts have troubled you, then this is the album for
YOU.

I love that album. But how does it compare to "Godbluff?"

Well.

Personally I much prefer Godbluff... but "La Rossa" is better than
anything on Godbluff (or on any other VdGG LP).

As I get older, I've realized that Hammill's lyrics are brilliant. I
wasn't too high on this album when I first got it. But now I love,
both musically and lyrically. It is a very moving album full of
depth. A real grower.

I believe it's the track listing for the new PH album.

But surely you didn't have to wait until you retired you nut-scratchin',
metal detecting, incontinent AARP poster boy! And save some of those social
security dollars for me you greedy old fart!

I love Still life but I find _La Rossa_ to be the weakest song of that album.
Not a bad song though.

Quite interesting to see that both think "La Rossa" is the standout
track on SL (one way or another...) as this was the only track
that was left out from the Godbluff sessions (probably more
due to time restrictions than quality). I rate it as the strongest
track on Still Life myself (although "Pilgrims" comes close), but
then again I think that Godbluff was one of their best albums,
beaten only by Pawn Hearts.

I'm with you o that. I marginally prefer Still Life to Godbluff because of
the songwriting and lyrics (despite the dumb trashing of it in the original
post). But they're both great albums and essential.
