This is a bastard child of Digs' fine art thread, and I did post this in
here, but I've reworded it and created my OWN topic for better exposure ;P

Before you get all pissy at me, I have googled... and googled... and
googled... and asked on other, completely random internet forums. There
doesn't appear to be a newsgroup that deals with this sort of thing on my
server, either (weird, i know).

Anywway, here is the description of a painting I saw in an art history book
last year which has eluded me ever since. Any sort of thing you can think
of about the title/artist/period/style/whatever, I'll take it.

It is daytime and pretty bright, IIRC. There's a HUGE glass/clear wall or
enclosed cube of some sort, and around it (and maybe inside of it too) are a
bunch of little "people" consisting of, again IIRC, white ovals for heads
and plain black bodies just floating around.

hmm... now you've got me interested. Is there an art newsgroup you can ask?

What is the truth, what is the faithful lasting proof?
What is the central theme to this everlasting spoof?

The saga continues. I was on a mission this morning to finish this day
having seen this painting again. No luck until now. I looked on the
internet some more, and even went to something called to allexperts.com and
asked both of the "fine art experts" if they could identify it. No luck. I
went to Barnes & Noble and looked through art books for half an hour... no
luck.

I swear, if anyone finds this thing, I will SEND you (not B&P) three shows
of your choice. I'm getting that desperate.

;P

Definitely not Dali, mate. I was thinking maybe impressionist because it
was very dreamlike, with those type of wafting strokes of the brush. This
may also be because I don't remember it 100% well. Unmistakable if you run
across it, though. A huge glass wall, and a bunch of little dudes with
white oval heads gathering around both sides of the glass wall.

Almost 100% on it being oil on canvas. Most radiant color would have to be
the strongly green grassy area where the glass wall is erected. Also, I'm
not sure if it's American or European, but I have a strong, strong feeling
that it's from the first half of the 20th century, if that helps.

My first thought is that this sounds like De Chirico. I looked at a lot
of his stuff online, but couldn't find anything like what you describe.
I looked for about 2 hours last night, trying to find this picture.
So, please let us know if you get your answer.
