no matter what you think of van halen, you gotta admit it would be
hilarious with mike singing the bass part and fishman doing the lead.

I think it would be pretty funny if they did the Oompah-loompah theme songs from Willie Wonka

How about "Heard It Through The Grapevine" right in the middle of a
Tweezer. Think about how easy the segue would be.

Deep Purple's "Highway Star". One of the greatest heavy metal songs of
all time. If the words "heavy metal" scare you give this one a listen.
The Metalicas and Anthraxes of today are no comparison. Phish is probably
the only band touring now that has the talent to pull this off.

Zachary Richard's "Who Stole My Monkey". I just thought of it because it
just came on as my CD carousel spun to the next CD. It would be pretty
funny to hear Fishman singing this and it would be a companion song to
"Sleeping Monkey". Mike may have to try and play the accordian again
though :).

Maybe in a couple years when the fallout from Garcia's death and the whole
Phish/Dead thing has dies down somewhat, perhaps Phish could do some Dead
covers without the risk of the scene being overrun by Deadheads. They'd do
well on a whole lot of tunes but some of the more recent Bobby tunes with
their weird chord progressions seem to really fit Phish's style. Imagine
what they could do with the jam in Saint of Circumstance! They could also
do an intensely deranged Victim. On a sweeter note, I would be in bliss if
they did Ripple acoustic

The 'alien jam' (Cantina Band is the title, btw) from Star Wars would be
great, but I have some more. Before you get nervous, upset, or flame,
just listen to me here <pretty please?>. Monkees possibilities:
'Listen To The Band' done live is always awesome. There was on time I
saw it on tv, and for a while a psychedelic jam was played at the end.

'(Not Your) Steppin' Stone' is practically perfect for Phish. I mean, if
REM and The Sex Pistols can cover it, why not these guys? If you listen
to it on the Live 1967 album, they do a great improv jam in the middle of
the song, and Michael Nesmith even puts a little bit of 'Purple Haze' into
it for good measure. It's got some of the highst energy I've heard from
any live Monkees songs.

Although I think Phish covers are often some of the best songs of their
shows, I think people should spend a little more time cosidering the
musical talents that Phish display in their own songs. Obviously, most
of their lyrics are just plain stupid, but the arrangements and musical
quality of their originals is incredible. Too many people go to shows
and comment on the cover songs they here. If you want to hear a song by
a classic rock band,go see that band for $50 at some boring show. Phish
should not be responsible for improving on ancient music. Instead, they
should be allowed to express their own creativity in songs appreciated
for their sound, not for the mere fact that they are played by Phish.

Um, it could be me, but it seems that Phish could display there
talents in other people's music, too.

P.S.- I'd like to hear Sly and the Family's "Dance to the Music"

Phish, no offense, could never do this song justice. They don't have
enough musicians. Allman's had 9 musicians for that song (fillmore east
shows) and any attempt to cover it would be very very wrong.

Dancin' Days would be a pretty cool song done by Phish. I think that they
should cover anything by Rush. They both are made up of incredible
musicians and end in "sh". Piano added to the 3 instrument sound of Rush
would kick.

I THINK PHISH SHOULD COVER "SULTANS OF SWING" BY DIRE STRAITS. POSSIBLY,
THEY SHOULD TRY "LAYLA" OR A LONG SHOT WOULD BE "WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS
PLACE?" THAT'S JUST MY SUGGESTION. WHO KNOWS, BUT WHAT EVER THEY
COVER, YOU'LL KNOW IT'LL BE PHAT.

I believe they should do some Frampton like "show me the way"

or I think it's called "feel like I do"

It is kinda self explanatory. Looking for any good copies of these
shows. I don't have that much to trade, but I'm sure we could work
something out. Please email em...@acpub.duke.edu if you have and would
like to trade. There is other stuff I would trade for too, so if you
only have one and prefer to make bigger trades, please let me know
anyway. Peace, Matt.
