Welcome to Side Notes. Side Notes is a newsletter made up to honor info on true
musicians, most of which are part of the "Jam Band" scene and not the
commercialized corporate music society.
On August 28th, 2003 MTV hosted the Video Music Awards. This event could have
summed up why the music industry is going through the problems they are facing.
Lipsinks, Make up artists, Songwriters who dont write their songs, Musicians
who dont play instruments, Teleprompters telling the icons exactly what to say,
not to mention that the event was hyped as the biggest event in "music" this
year. Interesting statement, proves later to be false. Winners included 50
Cent, Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Coldplay, Coldplay, Missy Elliot,
Beyonce Knowles, Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Good Charlotte. Like the Grammy
Awards last year when Norah Jones racked in I found myself asking the question,
Are these really the only five to ten artists that are worthy and deserve these
awards. Not to mention that the closest nominees for true musicianship, (John
Mayer, Johnny Cash, and Metallica) all lost. What happened to true music?
Rolling Stone magazine is flooded with ads and cover stories on actors and
actresses, The Radio is nothing more than a schedule of the same songs played
everyday, and the media could very well control every dollar and every pop icon
created. Where is the real "music"?
This is an attempt to give you something to read whether at school, at work, on
a train, on a plane, on the beach, at the bus stop, in the bathroom etc.
The newsletter is FREE and is made simply for us to share "real music" facts
and opinions with you. You are also entitled to submit any bit of your own
facts and opinions for publishing in the newsletter so that even more sources
of information are coming in, since we all know that Clear Channel is most of
the source for all news we hear today and anything they don't want you to know,
you dont know. In this brainwashed society we are slowly putting this together
so you can have something else to read or do on your time.
Newsletter will feature Upcoming Shows, New Tours, New Bands, Band Info, Artist
Spotlight, CD Reviews, Crossword Puzzle, Classified Trades, Fun Facts,
Noteworthy Jams, Noteworthy shows, Birthdays in the community, Letters,
Surveys, TV Specials, Tour stories, Jam standings, Links, Sit Ins, News, Things
you should know, Venue Info, etc...
The only bands mentioned in the newsletter are those who we feel are not "made
up" stars, one hit wonders without true musical talent, or mainstream crap.
