wow, that is really cool. i saw a picture on nasa.gov once what was taken
in scandanavia during liftoff, so the shuttle was pretty high up. it was
taken right after the big orange fuel tank jettisoned, so it shows a
straight white streak like that, plus an orange streak falling off (the
picture was probably a few second exposure). very cool...

also, i had read that upon further inspection of some amateur astronomer's
video taken through a telescope, when the shuttle was over CA, you could
already see stuff coming off, which they presumed were occasional heating
tiles. such a shame...
