This category, like movies, songs, and most art, is too broad and full
of "favorites" for me to pick one, but I'll post a link to a painting I
saw in person recently for the first time, and whose print hangs in one
of my favorite bars, taboot.

Pretty much anything by Matisse, Dali, VanGogh, and some Picasso will
always have a place on my walls. I don't think that I can narrow it
down any further than this.

Aww, shucks, thanks . . . I love a lot of the other stuff in this
thread, too. Although I love going to modern museums, the masters really
do it for me.

GREAT stuff guys! But I want MORE!!!!!! More, more more more.......

I went to the Chicago Art Museum before the UIC Cheese show a couple years
back and saw some AMAZING work. This one really stood out:
http://www.cegur.com/Albright/TheDoor.html
T'was AMAZING in person......very large. (Notice the hand....)

But there was one that I ahve searched all over the web for and cannot find.
It was a face of some sort, and a boulder...on a beach or in a desert, not
sure. It was exsentuated by a deep and troubled red. Looked like the blood
of Satan himself. Quite striking.......

This is such a great thread. Speaking of Degas and his love for dancers,
I spent a long time staring at this that weekend I went to the NGA:
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/degas/ballet/degas.4-dancers.jpg. I
love how it's a study of both the serene landscape and the active,
athletic people in the foreground. Awesome.

A couple more of my favorites...

http://www.uic.edu/depts/ahaa/classes/ah111/raphael1.jpg

http://tinyurl.com/5e9lf (makes me think of Fear and Loathing in LV)

Also, if anyone could help me out here, I'd much appreciate it. I saw this
painting last year in a huge art history book one of my teachers had. It
was a sunny day (?), a huge glass wall was constructed (maybe the visible
part of a giant, clear cube, and a bunch of little "people" were around the
glasslike cube (maybe some inside it to). It was one of the strangest, most
visually arresting pieces I've ever seen. Someone's got to know what I'm
talking about.
