I heard her today in Aida from 20 years ago and she blew me away. Everything you want from a Verdi soprano in spades: Wagnerian in size, gorgeous-rich middle and lower registers, huge top capable of being used very lyrically as well, plus the ability to hit high notes DEAD ON:) Pity Tebaldi rarely managed the latter despite her many other gifts. Did anyone hear her life. What were your impressions.

I don't think Madame Tebaldi needs your pity at this point, or ever - and
your use of "rarely" is hyperbolic.

Sharon Sweet was very good - try to hear her Met performance of Turandot -
it is exceptional.  But Sharon Sweet was no Tebaldi.

There is no question Tebaldi had the better voice overall, but above A she was not reliable the times I heard her. There are exceptions of course.
