I am not sure, but I think they did.

I know they did two performances of the Verdi Requiem in memory of JFK
a short while later. They were on a Friday night and the next Saturday
afternoon broadcast, and featured Leontyne Price, Carlo Bergonzi,
Rosalind Elias, and Cesare Siepi, with Solti conducting.

I went to the Friday night performance, and listened to the broadcast
the next afternoon. Both performances were excellent, and very moving.

I just checked the Metropolitan Opera Annals.
It lists performances on November 21, matinee and evening performances
on November 23, and November 26. No performance on November 22.

Does it say what was to have been performed, Ken. Again, I have a
vague recollection about having a ticket that evening. Thanks.

Dunno what the Met did, but the San Francisco touring company certainly
canceled the Pique Dame scheduled for Los Angeles! (We had tickets -
which were of course later refunded.)

It does not mention the scheduled opera, Ed. There's just no listing
for that date.

For some reason, I have a very distant memory that it may have been an
opera with Leontyne Price. I will write to Bob Tuggle of the Met. If
anyone knows, I am sure he does.

Thanks, Ken. I definitely did not have a ticket for the Wagner, but
might very well have had a ticket to the Manon. I was at the Parsifal/
Requiem on 3/27, and listened to the 3/28 performance on the radio the
next afternoon.

I remember thinking that it was a lot for the soloists to sing the
complete Requiem twice in a good deal less than 24 hours.

That is quite a sing, Ed! But it's not all that unusual for
orchestras to program the Verdi Requiem, and to have a Saturday
evening performance followed by a Sunday matinee, as part of a
subscription series.
It's a lot for the chorus, too. Verdi did not go easy on voices.

I believe that Solti conducted and that the performance of the Requiem
