* THIS MONTH: Dynamic releases the second of its Monteverdi recordings
from Teatro Real Madrid directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi and conducted by
William Christie. L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA, the last in the series,
is to follow. Opus Arte's ACIS AND GALATEA was performed as part of a
2009 Royal Opera House double-bill with DIDO AND AENEAS, released
separately earlier this year on both DVD and Blu-ray. Also from
Covent Garden we have last year's IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA on Virgin
Classics where Joyce DiDonato had to perform on a wheelchair due to an
injury during rehearsals. Villazón returns to the stage as well as to
DVD with L'ELISIR D'AMORE in a 2005 video from Barcelona, the same
year of his previously-released DVD of this opera with Netrebko from
Vienna.
* COMING SOON... Deutsche Grammophon releases two older Met
performances in May: the 1982 HANSEL AND GRETEL (unavailable on DVD
for several years) and the 1988 IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA (first time on
DVD). The 1991 Met Opening Night Gala follows shortly, and they have
already announced the release of CARMEN from this season's Met in HD
series. The first-ever PALESTRINA on DVD is due out soon from
EuroArts (Munich 2009). COSÌ FAN TUTTE (Zurich 2009), ADMETO
(Gottingen 2009) and DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES (Hamburg 2008) are on
the horizon. Check out the website for cast details and other
