The deluge of negative posts that the great Sam Ramey has received on this
board since yesterday is at the same time baffling and thought-provoking.
Wobbling and pathetic are two of the epithets mostly mentioned when
referring to his Zaccaria.

Nevertheless, I don't remember reading so much negative criticism regarding
Domingo's pathetic Siegmund last week, other than the usual. That I
remember, the bulk of criticism for his Siegmund consisted of apologies for
his vocal estate due to his extended career and the process of aging, as
well as long explanations detailing his artistry.

Well, aren't both, Ramey and Domingo, playing in the same league?
Larger-than-life careers for both, 60+ years of age, careers spanning
difficult and fiendish roles. Why then so much negativism for the former
and indulgence for the latter?

I wonder who is going to sing the roles of Zaccaria, Mefistofele, Attila,
and all the roles that Ramey is famous for when he retires. I wish I could
say the same about Domingo once he calls it quits.

That's an unfair comparison. You are inviting us to consider only the
negative criticism of Placido's Siegmund. Look over all of last weeks posts
and you will discover that he took a humongous shellacking from the usual
gang of four - Ed Rosen, Tom Kaufman, DonPaolo and, of course, yourself.
What brand of blinders do you wear? Or are you just hoping to stimulate a
new round of Domingo bashing?

Bollman, Bollman, didn't you read my post? I was referring to negative
criticism OTHER THAN THE USUAL. And no, I don't pretend to stimulate
another round of Domingo criticism, just to establish a parallel.

Bollman CAN'T read. Posts or anything else.

Reasoned debate is offered in vain when dealing with a Boll - or Silver

Bollmann lecturing on "unfairness" is like Silverman on politeness and
forebearance. And fivebearance.

I vote for Stephen Milling. But then I vote for him in just about any
bass role. I'm bummed that I missed him as Filippo in the SF Don
Carlo.

That's an easy one. Placido Domingo was far better as Siggy than Sam
Ramey was as Zack. Ramey, regrettably, sounded like a parody of
himself, whilst Domingo continues as one of the greatest artists of
operatic history. Discerning opera aficionados recognise this. My two
pence.
