Does anyone have information about the rumored ring at
the Royal Opera House in 2005?

Is it likely to happen?

Approximate dates?

Also any pointers about getting good tickets?

Thanks, Bill

New production at the ROH being put together over some 18 months, beginning
with Rheingold/Walkure in next season. Terfel to sing Wotan.

Keep an eye on the ROH website for the schedule and booking information!

German, naturally. Covent Garden is an original language house.

I don't remember and no longer have the LPs...were the 'English version'
Reginald Goodall performances given at Albert Hall then? Or some other
venue?

They were performances by the English National Opera who are resident at the
London Coliseum. They give everything in English.

This was linked to a staging in the 1970's at English National Opera,
an English language house in London, then based (I think) at the old
Sadlers Wells, now at a soon to be re-opened (if it ever happens)
Coliseum.

Co-incidentally ENO is doing the Ring this year too, in English,
starting next month.

Not always Nick. They did The Bartered Bride in English last time round,
with English sur-titles too.

True, but that was a special case for a particular reason, as you must
remember.

CG is an original language house, by any stretch...!

Bryn is in Oz at the moment and has been interviewed many times. One
photo had him and Lisa Gasteen together with the statement that she was singing
Brunnhilde at ROH with Terfel

Yes, Roger, this is correct. There is some very interesting casting in
this new Ring, and a significant proportion of singers new to their roles..

Let us hope for a good success, not forgetting the production as well..

This is something I look forward to with great anticipation. I just hope
it's not going to be another 'Marvel Comics' production...or set in another
corner of the 'industrial revolution' ala Chereau...I've really grown quite
tired of those. And I never really enjoyed the 'neo Bayreuth' thingy either.
I (along with many others I think) would prefer a 'realistic'
setting...yes...I know it's fantasy based on myths but Teutonic forests of
antiquity needn't look like a 'Las Vegas' neon convention, the Paris sewers
or like some insane Matisse painting.

Vocally, however, I follow this with great interest.

Domingo is singing Siegmund I believe (in some productions). Pappano
is conducting. Rosalind Plowright is singing Fricka. I assume that
Rheingold will be this Autumn. The ROH announce next year's programme
in April I believe and tickets go on sale to Friends soon after.

Keith Warner is directing.
